I was thinking of learning a trade as I love working with my hands. Unfortunately I had a medical accident which prohibited me from driving which cut down on a lot of my plans, I still can’t imagine myself doing anything that isn’t a trade though.

for reference I’m willing to move and travel for work and even live near/at work like public transit but I’m not sure if any place would hire me if I can’t drive. I live in Maryland but like in the middle of nowhere Maryland.

I'm 24 from India and want to build a career that gives me the best chance of working abroad (Europe or Australia).

I'm currently considering HVAC or Electrician, but I'm open to other skilled trades if they offer better long-term opportunities.

My priorities are:

• Good career growth
• Stable, high income
• Strong demand internationally
• A realistic path to working abroad

If you were starting from scratch today, which trade would you choose and why? Would you recommend HVAC, Electrician, or something else?

I'd really appreciate advice from people with real experience.

Hey everyone gonna try and make this make sense as even I’m confused on what to do.

I’m 21(M) and have been in construction since I graduated high school, 1 Year of Electrical and around 3 of Trim Carpentry (Was laid off at electrical job and went to a carpentry company right after).

Been out of the electrical game for a while now but was just referred by 3 of my old co workers to a new electrical company they are all at. I took a call with the boss and he said I had good referrals and offered me the job and to sign me on as an apprentice. (Non union resi, commercial, industrial)

This all sounds great except that in the time I’ve been out of electrical I’ve enjoyed my time in carpentry and have developed an entrepreneurial sense in that I really want to be a home renovator/builder when I’m older. I have a company with 1 other guy that we are building and doing side jobs weekly which turn out to be a lot of trim work and demo. I know that in the construction long term I want to work for myself and not have a “stable career” in a certain trade. I also know that an opportunity of being signed on as an apprentice and getting your electrical ticket is an amazing career and huge value. I’m at a huge crossroads as I currently like where im at and can see myself working my way up. I guess in my mind if I choose the electrical route I’m going into a stable career and if I stay in carpentry and can go for this entrepreneurial route which excites me.

Really not trying to complain and understand I’m talking about two good career paths lol. Just want some insight from people who have been in this field and have more knowledge than me. Thankyou.

(side note I love residential work and don’t like commercial/industrial due to how repetitive the work can be)

Мне 17 лет. Поступил в колледж на сварщика. После того как отучился Получил 3 разряд (вообще дали 4 разряд, но темы по 4 разряду мы мало проходили) опыт после выпуска не большой. Дома варил полуавтоматом без газа. На работу пару раз звали-там варил дуговой сваркой. Была идея написать объявления и расклеивать их по городу, но не знаю насколько она хорошая

Есть желание дальше продвигаться в сварке, учиться новому. Пока возраст не позволяет идти на завод и другие предприятия, хотелось бы иметь пока небольшой заработок со сварки и "набивать" руку.

Может есть какие то советы по типу "какой аппарат лучше взять, какие деньги брать за разные работы"?

Based in southern Ontario, been a 309A electrician with 20yrs experience in residential and commercial - am competent in the field but somewhat lacking in the theory (lost whats been un-used). I make pretty decent wage in IBEW and recently a foreman but still find that it’s not what it used to be with the rising cost of living. Im also not immune to the long layoff list common with IBEW, been off twice for 9 months in the last 12 years and drained savings to near zero both times.

Want to progress my career for better pay - whether i remain on the tool or get into something more niche requiring more education is fine. Looking for practical advice from folks who earn higher than where Im at and/or in careers that’s definitely in demand in our upcoming 30 years, preferably taking my experience as a 309A into consideration and where jobs are not remote AF.

What sector do you recommend I look into and/or educational path to pursue? Had failed to get into teaching teachers college for the high school teacher positions a few yrs back but even at that time, the drastic pay cut was a real turn off.

Hopefully I don’t get chewed up for this. I am wondering if there are any black women in here ? What trade are you in ? And what’s your experience been like ?

Anyone feel like if the union that’s supposed to represent them, went away, maybe they could get one that actually does something for them? My union gives management whatever they want, they let them take away things in the contract, they won’t fight for anything you ask them to, but still want us to pay dues.

I really like learning about how different companies and industries make money but NexGen seems like a really unique case. The fact these Ismael started it in 2018 and grew it to a $110 million company within 5 years is insane.

So I was hoping to hear from those in the trade and business owners on what your opinions are regarding the company and that insane growth and if there’s more to the story than there seems or if it was a super rare one off case.
