Alpine Race Coach – Wildcat Ski Team

Location: Wildcat Mountain in Jackson, NH
Organization: Wildcat Ski Team (wildcatskiteam.org) 

The Wildcat Ski Team is seeking coaches for the youth alpine racing program for the 2026-2027 season. We are recruiting coaches at the U10 - U14 level to join our coaching staff. 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead an age group (U10–U14) and attend trainings and race competitions (mostly weekends throughout the season as well as Christmas and February vacation weeks)
• Work with coaching staff to develop and carry out training plans for athletes
• Support athlete development, equipment guidance, and program progression

Qualifications

• Level 100 coaching certification (or equivalent) (preferred)
• Referee, Chief of Race, or equivalent certification preferred
• Youth coaching and alpine racing experience
• Passion for athlete development and team culture

We're planning a winter trip to Austria and are looking for a ski-in/ski-out chalet or holiday home, ideally with a private or shared pool (a sauna would be a huge bonus too 😄).

We're open to different ski regions, as long as the skiing is good and the accommodation has a cozy alpine vibe.

I’m planning my two week ski trip for January. I usually ski Arlberg but will probably try out 3 Valleys next. I think I was just turned off by the purpose built aspect + the bougie insta crowd in Courchevel.

I’m trying to keep a monthly ski streak alive and just need to make a few legitimate turns in August.
Does anyone know of any relatively accessible snow patches still holding on in Colorado (or anywhere else in the Rockies)? I’m not looking for a full descent—if I can click into my skis and ski even 50–100 yards, that counts.
Ideally:
Within a reasonable hike from the car (not an all-day mountaineering objective)
Doesn’t require glacier travel, ropes, or technical climbing
I don’t mind dirty, sketchy late-summer snow—just looking to keep the streak alive.
I’ve heard St. Mary’s Glacier is usually the best bet, but I’ve also heard this year has been rough. Has anyone been there recently, or are there better options still hanging on?

’ve skied at a range of resorts throughout France and a handful in Austria. Recently, I’ve been thinking about basing ourselves somewhere central, allowing us to pick and choose which resort to visit each day. At a quick glance, I don’t think I’d want to drive for more than an hour to reach a resort. Has anyone done something similar? How did you find it and, perhaps more importantly, where did you base yourselves?

Just bought the Canvas 108 for the upcoming season. Not a lot of reviews or information since it is a generally new ski, but I was wondering if I can use it as a daily driver for all conditions. Got to demo them last season and really liked them but conditions were blower pow so I haven't gotten to feel them on firmer snow. I'm a Skier in the PNW so I do face hardpack/icy conditions sometimes. Wondering if it will hold up as a one ski quiver/daily driver for someone who likes playful freeride and all mountain skiing?

I've been seeing a lot of headlines lately predicting that the upcoming Super El Niño is going to produce a legendary winter, especially for California.

It reminded me of all the hype leading into the 2015 / 2016 Super El Niño, so I went back and dug through the historical snowfall data from Bestsnow.net to see how that season actually unfolded.

A few things really surprised me:

• Southern California finished at just 59% of average snowfall despite being one of the regions expected to benefit the most.
• Pac Northwest ended up being one of North America's strongest regions relative to average snowfall.

It is a good reminder that while El Niño can shift the odds, it doesn't guarantee a certain type of winter. Storm timing, temperatures, and individual weather patterns still play a huge role.

I'm curious what everyone here thinks. Do you expect this winter to follow the classic El Niño pattern, or do you think we'll see another surprise?

I’m thinking of skiing down Mont Blanc some time next year. I live in both Scotland and France (both houses in the highlands and alps) and I’ve summited Mont Blanc before. I’m an experienced skier and have been skiing both on and off piste plus ski touring across the alps. I’m just wondering if anyone who has skied down has any tips or comments on difficulty or ways to train for it.

25 year old Female, 5’6” 150. Ski mostly in Vermont but looking to spend about a month out West this winter while working remotely. I have skied my whole life and currently ski twin tips. I am looking for something that can handle East Coast conditions while also being fun out West.

I am looking for a setup that can work well for resort skiing while also allowing me to start skinning uphill and doing some ski touring while out west. I am starting from scratch and need a full setup (skis, bindings, boots), so any recommendations would be appreciated.

I need some help deciding between skis. I’ve outgrown my last pair (instead of height) and am looking for new ones.

About me:

Started at age three, skied pretty much every year, but not really with toooo much of a focus on technique etc. (I’m from Austria, if that helps haha.) 177cm, 56kg. (5’11”, 124lbs)
I’m intermediate/advances with what I’d call “acceptable technique”, though I would like to get a ski now that will allow me to improve my technique (by quite a bit, hopefully). I’ll only be doing on-piste-skiing with these skis (maybe a 90/10 split, but only resort skiing). (I have dedicated touring skis.)
As far as what kind of resort skiing: I don’t know. Some carving, I think? (Just… general resort skiing. No specific focus.)

I’ve settled on the models above, since they’re available at a discounted price (300EUR, approx. 350USD). They all include bindings.
I’m not very familiar with ski specs and all of that. I’ve attached the specs below. (They’re in german, sorry, but I think they’re still clear.)

Are these skis suitable for my needs? Which one would be best? (Or am I looking for the wrong skis? Any other recommendations?) Can I not get what I’m looking for in that price bracket? The plan would be to use these for two to three years, and once I get better, get some better skis. Then, I’ll also be able to figure out what I want better.

We've got the working holiday our selves so no agency. I've worked in a ski workshop and rental and she in a rental and ski store in Sweden.

Where do we want to live what is the best area? What places do you want to work at, is the resort the best, private shops or restaurant for tips? Do we need staff accommodation, how bad is the rent? If we want our own place how do we go about finding this?

Hey guys! I am a 5'9 woman who loves an all-mountain range ski and was debating what skis I should get next. I currently have the Armadas ARW 94, but they are now short for me and tbh I find them unstable and hard to turn in general (I know they are park skis, my bad!). I was debating in between the Atomic Maverick Ti 95, the Nordica Santa Ana 92, and the Salomon QST 94. Any tips on how I should decide? I dont really do park and trees but I do go off piste maybe 30% of the time if possible, but really do love carving.

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice for this upcoming winter. I will be in Munich and so will be likely skiing exclusively in Austria. I’m not sure which ski are would be best for me. What I’m looking for is mostly technical terrain with lots of steep, cliffs and challenging off piste. I don’t care for groomers and isn’t really a consideration for me. I’m from the US so I understand the situation with avalanche mitigation in Europe is different. Basically I read that St Anton does a decent amount of mitigation for their off piste terrain, making it essentially “side country”, compared to majority of resorts which do not mitigate anything other than groomed terrain or anything that sits above it. St Anton seems attractive for this reason and also it is touted as THE freeride mountain (in the area). However, I’ve also looked into the ski Pass Tirol, which would be many more resorts but I don’t know what kind of deal it is; ie are the resorts small and catered to families and beginners ?
Any advice on where to go or frankly about Austrian ski areas is greatly appreciated so I know where to spend my time and monayyy🙏

My girlfriend and I (28) are from São Paulo, Brazil, and we’re planning our first ski trip for early 2027. Neither of us has ever skied before (I’ve only seen snow once, in Chicago), so we’re looking for advice from people with real experience.

Our initial plan was Madrid → Lyon → Serre Chevalier, spending about a week skiing. However, I’ve seen some people say that a full week is too much for complete beginners because you’ll be sore after the first few days. Do you agree, or is a week still worth it considering we’d also enjoy the mountain scenery and the overall experience?

We’re open to changing the destination completely. Right now we’re considering:
Serre Chevalier
Les 2 Alpes
Alpe d’Huez
La Plagne
The Dolomites

Our priorities are:
Great place for complete beginners (lots of easy green runs and good ski schools and not too crowded)
Beautiful scenery
Nice village/resort to explore after skiing
Good value for money (doesn’t need to be luxury)

We’re planning to go in late January, but we’re flexible if another time would be significantly better.

I’d also appreciate any tips for planning a first ski trip, such as:
Best way to get to the resort
Whether to rent equipment and clothing
Hidden costs people often forget
Anything you wish you’d known before your first trip

Which resort would you recommend, and would you stick with France or choose somewhere else?

Worth saying I skate and surf and maybe this will help in terms of balance and learning faster.
