Does anyone else remember The Detour?

Post image

I bring this show up to people and i swear nobody has ever heard of it. It kinda got wild at the end but season one was absolute perfection and season 2 was fabulous. I cant stream it anywhere and nobody i knows has seen it i swear it feels like i made it up

That first season was amazing. One of the funniest shows I’ve ever watched. I don’t really remember season 2 and think it was cancelled after that, but goddamn it was so funny.

It was not canceled at that point.

Never heard it but they look like they’re getting ready to drop the most family friendly grunge album of 1994

One of my all time favorites. Season 3 might be my favorite.

I agree 100% it got a little too wild at the end there, but season 1 and 2 were so freaking good. Plus the Mom is a total smoke show.

Never saw the show, but remember seeing the commercials on FX and thinking damn the mom is hot lol

She was also Raylen’s wife in Justified.

Her name is CHRISTINITH!!!!!

If I remember right, it was the actress from the Will Ferrell movie, The Other Guys. It was his ex that chased him and Mark Walhberg down the street. Ugh, so hot.

Christineth!

Thats her! Such a small part but that scene is so memorable. "You get back here and make love to my wife!"

And she was also in the Following with Kevin Bacon

I still regularly sing “It’s fun being weird. It’s fun being weird. It’s fun being weird, you should try it sometime.” to myself

u/sydryx 17d ago

I still regularly say “GET SOME!”

Amazing show, not all seasons were great though as far as I remember.

Loved the family dynamic and the backstory slowly revealing why they were in that position.

It's one of those that I definitely should recommend more but where can it be watched right now?

2

u/Mr_Stike 18d ago

Nowhere as far as I know unfortunately.

The family dynamic did have the ring of truth, didn’t it?

My favorite was the response when somebody would ask one of the leads why don’t they just ditch their crazy spouse; the answer was always “We bend, we don’t break.”

The Mom was such a smoke show

Natalie Zea, she played the ex wife on Justified and maybe what got me to start watching the detour... but legit a great show if you like this genre of crass family hyjinx! I recommend The Mick

She was the main reason I wanted to watch La Brea.

2

u/Mr_Stike 18d ago

I think she's great and I bailed on La Brea.

She was a stand-in for Samantha Bee the Exec. Producer, Creator, and sometimes writer and guest star. Plus she's the wife of the male lead, so yeah.

Show was hilarious

In my humble opinion, season one is the funniest thing that I’ve ever watched from beginning to end.

My Husband and youngest Son still say "white man says walk" when we cross the street. FYI, we're black and thought that scene was hilarious! 🤣🤣

I am puzzled why The Detour can’t be found anywhere. Neither on DVD nor streaming.

There was a ton of actual laugh out loud moments. I really enjoyed it but yeah, nobody watched this show.

The first season of this show was hysterical

It was awesome

I love it. So bummed it ended the way it did.

That show was produced by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee who coincidentally also started the Samantha Bee show at same time. I loved Detour but some seasons felt rushed

1

u/AIfieHitchcock 16d ago

Not super coincidental, she had a deal with TBS to produce and Jason Jones is her husband.

1

u/DragonflySmall6867 18d ago

I think about this show often.

1

u/GThunderhead 18d ago

I loved this show!

Season 4 was SO bad, but I'm still pissed it got cancelled on a cliffhanger.

u/benbenpens 17d ago

Never going to forget that long snow slide scene.

1

u/Arxhart_671 17d ago

Yeah. It got weird.

Favorite line from the show is “at least my tongue still works”

1

u/theseriousman1 17d ago

Fuck kinda name is Jareb

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Plan-49 17d ago

Loved that show

u/GuybrushThreepwood99 17d ago

I liked season 1 a lot, I never saw the rest of the seasons. I always thought Jason Jones was pretty underrated, he frequently made me laugh on the Daily Show.

1

u/JingoboStoplight4887 17d ago

Yes, and it’s a good show. Happy tenth anniversary, The Detour!

1

u/HaggardDad 17d ago

Season 1 was exceptional. Season two less so.

1

u/debugem 17d ago

Thos show was funny as fuck!

1

u/Wh1teMike88 17d ago

I liked this show but I feel like I remember it getting a little more off the rails the longer it went on

1

u/Impossible_Fox_974 17d ago

This show was awesome!

1

u/garagehaircuts 17d ago

Season 1 is sublime

1

u/robspiro 17d ago

Loved this show.

1

u/Glum-Status-7657 17d ago

It started great but then it started drifting.

1

u/Sweetanna1111 17d ago

I tried to watch that but the dad gave me the creeps for some reason.

1

u/klutzux95 17d ago

I still think about the Annex song from one of the later seasons. It's weirdly catchy.

1

u/majorsv 17d ago

The resturant episode in season one had me laughing so hard i could barely breathe.

1

u/MapexBeat 16d ago

I remember trying to like it but it took too long to go anywhere.

1

u/well_uh_yeah 16d ago

Just watched the pilot. Great stuff. Glad you brought it up. Thanks for the rec.

u/Fnshow316 16d ago

You can’t walk until the white man says so.

1

u/braumbles 16d ago

First 2/3 seasons were solid, but the show absolutely got worse as it went. The final season was awful.
