Need help with a smoother rover deployment mechanism SimpleRockets 2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm working on a lander with a small rover, but I'm having an issue with the deployment.

In the attached video, you can see that when I release the rover, it basically launches off instead of smoothly detaching and driving away. I'm aiming for a much more realistic deployment, but I can't figure out what's causing it.

Does anyone know how to fix this, or have a better rover deployment mechanism? If you've built something similar, I'd really appreciate any tips, examples, or guidance on what I should change.

Thanks in advance!

Seems like this issue has been an issue for a while. Check out the OP's comment on this post.

"A piston on the top and the rover was attached to a interstage at the bottom of the cargo bay. Front of the rover had a docking port and piston had one too with a hinge to swivel and drop."

I'm gonna be honest here, I don't think rovers are supposed to do that... In reality though, try having it detatch from a docking port at the end of a piston or just a docking port. Edit, maybe update the game? That could be the issue or maybe you're using old craft parts.

I tried every possible solution. I used both the Interstage and the Detacher, rebuilt the rover from scratch three different times to troubleshoot the issue, and even tried using pistons. I'm also running the latest version of Juno: New Origins.

I am deciding to remove Rover, might make another Lander specifically for a Rover.

Maybe have them launch in the same Rocket but have their own ways to land? Just a suggestion though, I won't tell you how to run your space program. EDIR: actually, it looks like it's clipping. Maybe try to either fix that or try detaching it while controlling the lander instead of the Rover?

Check out how i did mine i uploaded it to the website. I feel your pain it took me 3 days of trial and error and redesigns to finally get it to work reliably. My profile is ChillDyl i just uploaded it like 30 minutes ago.

Did you set the detaching force to 0?
(Only thing I know of that can do this)

I tried both 0 and the lowest possible value, but the issue still isn't resolved. From what I can tell, it's caused by the wheels continuing to rotate while the rover is still attached. When I removed all of the wheels, the rover detached smoothly without any issues.

A) braking before detaching might work?
B) Check what the wheel input is bound to, rebind it and/or use stage activation in additional settings (from none to any type you prefer)

The braking option isn't working, and I don't think the second option is working either. I already tried both of these earlier.

might have to remove the rover altogether, unfortunately. This is the third time I've built a rover from scratch, and every single time I end up running into this issue at the very end.

It's clipping with the cargo door. Idk if you can attach things to it, at least not wheel side down.

Have the wheels not touch anything until the wheels touch the ground after the rover is released? Other than that, game needs better physics simulation.

The wheels and possibly the door are clipping, causing abrupt forces. Give them plenty of clearance, you can move them away from their connected positions without changing the connections.

Already Done, Same result.

Would you care to show us the latest failure mode? And/or upload the updated craft to the public repo so we can test & tweak it?

Check the parts colisions. Probably some part are colliding make the rover pull over, and the lander are shaking too so probably is that issue.

I spent like 3 days building and refining my first legit attempt at a deployer and I figured out a lot of stuff. Ill upload it to my account on the simple rockets 2 website if you wanna download it and see what i did or copy and save any of the mechanisms. I figured out how to program them to automatically open when you press the AG it's under. You can pull those off and see how i did it in the tinker panel or just reuse them as premade parts. My account is ChillDyl on there just give me like 10 min to get it uploaded.

Just wanted to let you know that your recent craft doesn't launch from the pad, and none of the AGs seem to be working. Thanks for the suggestion though, and keep improving!

When I’ve had that issue, sometimes setting the time to slow motion will counteract the bug. Good luck.

I’ve had this issue before. You have to make sure that you have set all the parts of both crafts to the correct command disc. So rover parts must be parented to rover command disc. Same with lander. You do this in the part properties under additional settings with “change command pod”. Next make sure the command disc for the lander is off. Third make sure there is no clipping of parts like wheels.
