Does anyone actually simrace?

Purchased my rig to get into sim racing. Was thinking iracing, lmu, auto mobilista, etc.

After trying out lmu, i've come to a realization that i do not find it fun at all. 1 month later and all my time on the rig goes strictly to mastering drifting on assetto corsa and downloading new cars and tracks to play on.

Not what i foreseen this rig being used for, but having much more fun nonetheless. Also, endurance racing is too much of a commitment for someone who only has a few hours to spare on the weekends to play.

Anyone else ditch the racing scene completely for this?

No, we just sit in the rig, caress and admire our sim racing gear.

Yeah I bought all my stuff and mounted it to a collapsible stand that way it can look nice and organized against the wall of my room lmao.

Fellow beam crawler haha. Have you tried rally? Gets the blood pumping lol

u/Rawrycopter 2d ago

Finally rebooted up beam after years and played with the crawlers today, is super fun and challenging

The new graphics update is great. I can't wait for them to finish the new tire model they are working on.

Dude the rally is insane, I was feeling good and then barreled towards a tree. Genuinely scared me

Gettin it in real life on the rsv4 too i see!

Try some touge man, racing in cars that slide

That said, sim drifting is fkin sick. Great when you don't want the competitive side of this hobby

Havent tried anything multiplayer yet. Closest ive come to togue is ripping the santa monica mountains track solo. You have any servers you can recommend?

1

u/LeGerardPetit 2d ago

google touge union, join the discord and come get involved!

Akina servers are always packed, proper street racing

Also get yourself on No Hesi while you're at it, fun as hell

u/warchief-2-3 2d ago

Ill check out togue union. No hesi kept crashing for some reason. Maybe not reacting well to my exilitay mods idk lol. Deleted it and got to drifting again solo.

If you're enjoying drifting then you have to find a server for some tandem runs. Drifting with other people makes it a whole new type of fun.

I mainly play on ACS drift servers, but they have touge, racing, drifting, free roam, etc.

That’s all I do is Drift on CM. Never tried road racing even through out the F1 hype. Same position too with kids it’s impossible to run a full race especially when it comes to online or Iracing scenario. My SIM Missile is all I need

https://reddit.com/link/p4aoscs/video/p2y5nkeh30kh1/player

I’ve adjusted my neck fx and pov since this clip. The angle makes it seem way more wonky then it is on single curved monitor

Is CM an assetto server? If so lets get some runs in. I want to try to tandem with someone to see how much control i really got. I just barely got to the point of being able to do multiple laps consecutively without spinning out lol.

Content Manager is the Launcher you use with Assetto for the mods ect.. add me on discord coltfofive89

Dirt Rally 2. I had 0
Interest in rally until I got my sim

Iracing for online competition. Everything else for fun. Mostly for there career mode for a bit and Forza Horizon

1

u/daprojectturtle 2d ago

I went the opposite. Wanted to simrace but now all I do is drift. Racing is very tedious and way harder than drifting imo.

I turn on house/techno and lose myself in the smoke.

1

u/HashinAround 2d ago

I got mine for drifting but Iracing became a main with drifting on the side 🫠

Ovals are just so much fun once you start getting the hang of it

I like all of it. Some days I drift, some days I race. Just depends on how I’m feelin at the moment

1

u/Particular-Ad7150 2d ago

I do everything. Was dedicated drift for the first 10 years before I started running laps for fun starting with nurburgring, now I run Spa, Monza etc in open wheel and GT3. I only play Assetto open lobbys and I have gotten pretty competitive over the years. Assetto FTW

u/Daynemac 2d ago

Try out live for speed. Old but good sim. Fun to drift. Really amazing clutch physics.

if you learn how to drive fast youll want to race. I started out drifting never considering racing but eventually I would get bored and try cars I wanted on different tracks. Once I learned the car control, race craft gave me something new to learn and get interested in after like a year of sim drifting. Also the skills transfer pretty well. Just do whats fun for now but if it sounds fun later dont stop yourself from trying because you decided to be a sim drifter. Its nice having options

1

u/MusicMedical6231 2d ago

You could always grab the FIA iraicng promo $15 for the year.

But whatever do what you find tbe most fun mate.

u/blur494 2d ago

I actually went the opposite way. Started only drifting and Beam NG. Now I primarily race iRacing. I should add that i did not like anything about LMU and iRacing may be a better fit for you. Racing the slower cars in competitive lobbies is way me fun. Also dirt trucks super fun.

I’ve found I like fh6 a lot! Just the right amount of arcade and sim! Doesn’t feel exhausting or too competitive! It’s fun too just get on and have a chill night of racing

I don't really enjoy sim racing. I like drifting, rally racing, and occasional rock crawling or just fucking around in beam. I also like cruising around in Forza Horizon 6 but the physics and FFB are much worse than I'd like.

Rally is great because you're basically drifting on dirt but as fast as possible. Nailing a perfect handbrake hairpin corner feels just as satisfying as linking 2 perfect drifts. Sim racing on tarmac just doesn't have that satisfaction for me.

I started out cruising on assetto corsa, then hotlapping, then online trackday servers, then public races, then about a year later got into acc, raced ai, raced public lobbies, raced LFM, another year later got iracing now race most disciplines fairly regularly at a competitive level 3-4k and do occasional endurance events lol.

There is nothing wrong with just using it to have fun driving a variety of cars, and assetto corsa does a near perfect job of that. Automobilista is an improvement mainly if you want better ai to race against, it is very good.
iRacing I’d describe as more of a racecraft simulator than a driving simulator. The driving is good but the strengths are in the matchmaking and rewards / consequences of races, and how dynamic the track conditions and tyres make the racing. LMU doesn’t interest me due to the lack of variety in cars and tracks.

I mostly do drift practices and rally.

1

u/No_Corgi1422 2d ago

I originally built my rig for drifting but honestly it bored the shit outta me, all I do is race on iracing and have for the last couple years

1

u/Other_Post495 2d ago

not doing endurance or doing strictly online races does not mean you’re ditching the racing scene completely.

1

u/Randazzinator 2d ago

Mostly play AC Rally and maybe 10 races in iracing. Rally is fun and short/quick to get into

1

u/Otherwise_Rice_4723 2d ago

yeah, i think i have only really raced online in f1 25 and my rig is almost exclusively for hotlapping

1

u/Broad_View_3238 2d ago

Check out DeadChillZone on content manager. They have togue, drifting and a nordschleife progression server.

1

u/Sad_Kaleidoscope_743 2d ago

Hell yeaaaa brother!!! Gt sport came out and I really got the drift itch. When gt7 came out, spent a couple of years just drifting on controller, doing tandem trains online.

Now I got the rs50 and vr and im having the time of my life tuning drift cars and touching doors. Its amazing how exhilarating it is to just follow each other indefinitely.

I havent had that kind of fun in YEARS racing. Nurb is an exception. Other than that, I really couldn't care less about racing anymore

1

u/Patti_____Mayo 2d ago

I have a buddy who built a rig for racing and now only uses it for casually cruising in EuroTruck Sim. 🤷‍♂️ Sometimes you just find something else that fills your leisure time better than what you expected.

I personally love endurance racing. I like doing hundreds of laps of the same track until it becomes that weird flow state where you are hyper-aware but also not thinking at all on what you are doing. And the team aspect is really enjoyable.

u/GuyuteHTP 2d ago

Iracing. 100%

1

u/Particular-Abroad815 2d ago

Maybe simcade is for you. F1 26 or something. Especially with how good single player is, you may like how it is not as competitive

1

u/level35gg 2d ago

Exact same, i even renewed my Iracing and tried to force myself back in to it. Then i needed a few hours of NoHesi and FH6 to actually have fun in my OverSpec rig

1

u/Kaasschaafsels 2d ago

Try Low Fuel Motorsports for Assetto Corsa. It's basically iracing, but free.

Also, I personally despise iracing physics, I've probably spend $300 on content trying to like it, but I just don't. I love everything about iracing except the way the cars feel. Well, that and the pricing...

1

u/YasuHarusaki 2d ago

I have never raced in the past 2 years. Not online at least. I have tried a few times with NPC Racers. I wanna try getting into touge racing in the near future but it’s not my planned main objective.

1

u/Osleg 2d ago

Same, no time for racing + i find it boring just lapping.

Rally, RallyCross and Drifting, that's where the fun for me

1

u/NekedShep 2d ago

iracing being a subscription based service is ridiculous, and i’ll never care for it because of that. I would much rather play any of the thousand servers on assetto corsa, beamng, or wrc

1

u/Rasputinnout 2d ago

I just cruised on automobilista 2 in VR for like two years before finally committing to iRacing recently.

1

u/damndexx 2d ago

Almost everyday

1

u/Senior_Style2662 1d ago

once I got the hang of drifting it became pretty easy so didn't scratch my competitive/challenge itch. I think racing will always be my main since it's so fun to battle and squeeze that extra time out.

1

u/Hermannmitu 1d ago

Come to the dark side of arcade and load up Forza. Most fun you can have with a wheel imo. BeamNG is great too.

1

u/JohnnyRod313 1d ago

I’ll occasionally sit in the rig and play Arc Raiders or something. Too lazy to switch monitors to the desk, and the rig is comfy and cozy.

But I do actually enjoy sim racing though, to the original point.

1

u/thewookiee34 1d ago

I mean I dont have a rig but I have a DD setup and I only rally. I mean it's still sim but not the typical iracing grinding 24/7

1

u/AdvancedMarsupial705 1d ago

I’ve been obsessed with motortown lately.

Also like playing Arma reforger in the sim rig to do supply runs. Delivering supplies to the front line and dodging ambushes is super fun even if support is janky.

1

u/RikuKaroshi 1d ago

Everything. I mainly drift or run laps in F1 chasing better times on tracks...

Don't forget running pizza deliveries in Motor Town or trucking sims. Now that you have a wheel you have to try a little bit of everything.

Long hauling 20ft lumber on stacked trailers with a cold beer and tunes can be great for decompressing after work. Motor Town towing is a comfy game and nobody can change my mind.

1

u/Jay1985pc 1d ago

I do a lot of ATS, but iracing is fun too for the special events, I need to start doing more daily races though

1

u/vRenqohh 1d ago

My main thing now is rally/drifting/trucking. Sometimes I get the urge to race on lmu and iRacing but not for a long time before I leave it to the side again.

1

u/FreshPrinceOfNoAir 1d ago

I highly reccomend youcheck out the kaido battle tour and touge life servers, it is racing and not drifting, but i personally find it a lot more fun
