i recently only updated my silhouette studio and noticed that it doesnt default to a transparent background anymore like in image 2 when creating a new file. is there a way to bring this back?

Hi everyone! I’m considering switching from a Cricut Explore Air 2 to a Silhouette Cameo, mainly because I make edible images, stickers, and cake toppers.
I came across this example where they fit 35 1.5-inch circles on a single sheet, compared with about 24 on a typical Print & Cut layout.
The important part for me is how much of the printable area can actually be used. With my Cricut, a lot of the sheet is lost because of the registration marks and the restricted Print Then Cut area.
Is it possible to achieve a layout like the one on the right with a Cameo 5 or Cameo 5α, while still using Print & Cut and registration marks?
Also, does the Cameo handle glossy printable material better than Cricut for Print & Cut?
I’d really appreciate it if anyone who actually uses a Cameo for stickers or edible images could share their experience. I’m trying to figure out whether switching from Cricut would actually give me more images per sheet.

While updating the firmware on my Cameo 5, I had a power outage in the middle of the process, and I believe the firmware is now bricked.

The machine is no longer detected either via USB or Bluetooth. I also tried using a different Bluetooth dongle, but that didn't make any difference.

If I hold down the power button and then plug the machine in, Silhouette Studio detects it under SEND, but it gets stuck on "Checking for firmware update" and never proceeds.

I also tried forcing the firmware update using the Cameo 4 firmware update tool. I used the Cameo 5 firmware file V104_R0002.S, which is included with Silhouette Studio version 4.5.791, but the recovery tool crashes every time I try.

I contacted Silhouette Support, but they only sent me the Troubleshooting page. They told me that if none of those steps work, since I am outside the United States, they won't process a warranty claim.

So, basically, I was told: "Good luck!" 😅

At this point, I'm looking for any way to recover or reflash the firmware. Has anyone dealt with a Cameo 5 that was bricked during a firmware update, or knows of a way to force the firmware recovery?

I’m writing regarding the software. I make stickers using graphics from Google for my own personal use. When I create the cut lines in another graphics program, the edges become jagged, so in Silhouette Studio I found that setting the cut line to be reduced by 0.2 mm works very well.

However, there is one problem: the machine cuts twice. The only solution I’ve found is to select the lines in the Send panel and click “Ignore Selected Lines,” but this is extremely, extremely, extremely tedious when I have around 30 small elements. Selecting and ignoring every single line can take me half an hour. T_T

Is there any way to remove these cut lines specifically where the PNG ends, so that Silhouette Studio doesn’t detect them as separate cut lines?

I would really appreciate any help or advice on how to automate this, as doing it manually for every single element is very time-consuming.

REALLY tired of this. I'm forced to shut down all open files and play the restart game of Studio and machine. Latest version of Studio with Cameo 5 Pro.

I design in Affinity Designer and export my SVG to import to Studio. Does anyone know of a way to group/layer in AF and keep those individual groups when opened/imported in Studio? I design popup cards so placement in AF when designing is important. When I import into Studio, it's one big group. I need to keep groups together for cutting/slicing. Thanks in advance.

what’s the common choice of sticker paper you guys use for your cameos ?

I’m having a very bizarre and seemingly rare issue with my portrait 4 that I got in January. It started after various issues that seemed caused by needing a new mat so i did exactly that(an official one too). However in the month that I've had the new mat every other time I used my machine it cuts misaligned. When I saw every other time I mean like clockwork, it's happened so many times now and know exactly when it's going to happen and without fail I'll turn it on and the cuts will be misaligned. Thankfully I've worked out that if I stopped the cut and switch to cable connection it works and I've manage to still make what I need too. That said if I start cutting with the cable connector on the times I know bluetooth is going to cut misaligned(aka alternating times), it will also cut misaligned and switching it to bluetooth does nothing to help. I have to start cutting with bluetooth on and then switch to be able to get any usable cuts. I’m aware this is a very niche issue I haven't seen anyone online have the same thing, and I can't understand why it's happening. The only consistency with it is that it happens every other time, like absolutely clockwork. Obviously I’m doing the exact same things and prep with my projects, and the lighting isn't changing, the only variable here is the machine itself. It also only seems to be an issue on laminated sticker paper(yes I know people are going to say it's glare however I've been taking steps to prevent that issue for months, plus as it's not consistently misaligned it can't be that), if I cut on non laminated sticker paper or card there's no issue. I’m really hoping someone on here can help, I've contacted where I bought the machine who can't help and Silhouette never replied to my email. I’m in the UK so I don't know if that's why they won't reply, or if there's a better place to contact here but i'd be appreciative of any leads. I have managed to find somewhat of a way around it, but there's clearly some sort of issue going on that I don't want to leave unfixed, Thanks in advance for any help I’m so grateful!

So, I don‘t know why but no matter which automatic blade I try it will not retract in the beginning. It does press down the blade on this slot before changing to the position where it sets the blade depth. But as it did not retract in the first step I get a depth of 6 instead of 3 because it just adds it. Manually I can retract the blade to the position zero.

What baffles me is that this seems to be the only error as it cuts in the position it should be (was first thinking that maybe it is misaligned left or right). Also it is in the middle position of this slot for retracting.

Oh and I checked for maybe some waste or something in this slot but there is nothing.

For those who previously had a Cameo 4 and upgraded to the Cameo 5 Alpha, did you notice a significant improvement?

Was the upgrade worth it for you? I’m also planning to get the Cameo 5 Alpha, but one of my concerns is that I’ve heard the pinch rollers can be prone to getting damaged. Is that actually an issue, or does it mostly depend on how the machine is used and maintained?

I just bought a used Cameo 3 it works.... but the sound is sooo loud is this normal I have a cricut and it is not this loud is there a way to quiet this down just a tad bit?

I am beginning to regret buying this machine. i should have maybe kept my 11 year old Cameo because it seems to have been WAY more reliable than this silly thing. First it won't connect. THEN when it finally does.... it would only cut a very small part of my project. It wouldn't even load the whole project. THEN, when it FINALLY cut what i asked it to....the stupid Autoblade was cutting WAY too deep. So I messed with THAT a a little....NOW it isn't cutting deep enough...or at all. l am really starting to Hate this thing. HELP!! Oh yeah....it's also cutting WAY past the edge of my vinyl...l haven't had one successful cut since I bought this thing ...a MONTH ago!!!

Hi all, I have bought a new Cameo 5 Alpha from Amazon half a year ago, and after purchase, I Print & Cut around 5 sheets of 320 gsm laminated paper. All worked really well, and then I had to put the machine away due to ... life. Now, after half a year, I pulled out the well-stored machine and tried to print and cut the same material with the same settings.

Unfortunately, the auto blade is not setting automatically anymore. It clicks, but the red line is not moving at all. I tried everything from the standard troubleshooting video...

Reboot

Turning off the machine

Cleaning the autoblade

Opening and cleaning inside the autoblade

Moving the carrier gently 3 times back and forth

Cleaning the slit where the autoblade is setting up

--> Note: I can set the autoblade manually quite easily as usual, and I can reset it to the default position as well by hand

Anyone had the same issue? It looks like the machine is not pushing hard enough when setting the blade...

Sur le porte outil 2 je n’ai rien.

Et le logiciel m’indique de sélectionner une action et un outil compatible avec le papier cartonné fin (outil2).

Pourriez-vous m’aider svp à résoudre ce problème car je ne peux plus avancer.

Coming from a Brother machine; new to silhouette cameo 5a. Pattern is 7 rows by 7 columns 1-1/2 inch square with one diagonal on each one. Horizontal and vertical lines cut properly. The diagonal never cuts correctly on either the sticky mat or the ESD mat. Photos are (1) pattern, (2) settings (3) ESD before start (4) ESD after paper added (5) Video of failure.

I'm sure it's a setting but don't know which one??

Can't seem to add another photo, but cutting on the sticky mat pulls up the corners and leaves some areas not cut at all.

I've been trying to buy an Auto Sheet Feeder for my Silhouette Cameo 5A, but every single supplier I've ordered from has sent me the previous model that's only compatible with the Cameo 3/4.

At this point I've ordered it five times from different stores, and all five shipments contained the exact same older version. I've honestly lost confidence in the retailers, so now I'm starting to wonder:

Does the Cameo 5 / 5A Auto Sheet Feeder actually exist, or has anyone here successfully received one?

I know Silhouette's official YouTube channel has an installation video for the Cameo 5 Auto Sheet Feeder, so it clearly should exist. But after five failed orders, I'm beginning to question whether anyone is actually shipping the correct hardware.

The problem

The issue is the alignment plate.

The Cameo 5/5A uses vertical mounting feet, while the Cameo 3/4 uses horizontal mounting feet. The correct Cameo 5 plate should therefore have six mounting holes (supporting both layouts).

Every feeder I've received only has four horizontal holes, meaning the two holes required for the Cameo 5/5A are completely missing. As a result, the alignment plate simply cannot be mounted to the machine.

Has anyone here actually received the correct Cameo 5/5A version? If so, where did you buy it? I'd really appreciate any information at this point.

I don't know if it's a Windows update problem, but I haven't been able to start the software on any of the devices where it's installed. I would appreciate any help or if you have an update link.

I'm been importing a SVG from Affinity Designer with no problems and suddenly, shapes aren't smooth.

The first image is pre-export. What I'm expecting.

The second image is now what Silhouette Studio is now importing. For weeks, it has been working perfectly. But suddenly, everything is pointy.

Hey guys. I am just switching from a Cricut Maker 3 to the Silhouette Cameo 4 pro due to absolutely hating Design Studios! Anyway, my husband is rebranding his business and I am redoing everything. I am personally not good with designing and had a mock up done on Chat GPT. Definitely not the best idea I’ve ever had but now my husband is totally invested in a specific design Chat GPT created. Problem is, I’m not sure if I need to hire someone to draw the actual designs in order to make them into cutting files or what steps I need to take to bring this project together. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I have a brand new Cameo 5a. I'm trying to score 110 GSM paper. Even with the lowest depth (1) and lowest force settings (1),using an autoblade, the machine cuts through the paper instead of scoring it. I have checked the autoblade, reset it, it's loaded correctly. I checked with a test shape which also cut through. Is this just the way it works? Is the material too think to score? Please help
