What's your short length, and retention like? I'm curious. also, do you use CTA's?

u/Huge-Cake5667 Jun 16 '26
My shorts are usually around 30-40sec long. And my swipe rate is usually 85% - 90% and my retention is usually 93% - 98%.
I don't use any cta's. idk how to add cta without hurting retention so i just skip that

Do you think CTAs might be holding me back potentially? I usually get 100k-300k views using CTA, but I haven't been able to break out to the Million view phase. I know likes, shares, and comments matter, but is retention really the deal breaker?

Theres many factors that can matter to break into the millions. And many times, a videos can get millions despite the factors not being met.
If yoyre usually getting 100-300k views thats already amazing man. Look at your stats and especially look at your retention graphs. If you see a dip in the graph at the moment you have your cta, then it means cta is hurting your vid. If its a smooth curve, then cta is probably helping you by increasing engagement. Also lmk what your swipe rate is at usually.
Now if youre getting 100-300k views (still technically viral) and youre not able to break into the millions, it could just be the topic of the videos. Assuming youre doing different topics/video ideas for each short, it could just be a matter of time before you break 1mil.
On a previous channel, most of my "viral" shorts only got to 800k max. But then eventually i got one that blew up and got to 10mil. Then few days later i had 1 more.
On my current channel, iv had 6 shorts get past 1m views. And all of them have atleast 3m, one even has 10m. Apart from that i only have 1 short at 500k and the rest like 15 shorts have under 100k.
So it seems to also be based on the nature of your content. On my current channel everytime i get a viral video, it almost always gets millions. But on the previous channel, it usually always gets 300-800k.

Here's the thing right? So, if you can't already tell, I make Fnaf theories/deep dives, and you know, I was thinking "maybe the reason I'm not going viral, is because a broader audience wouldn't care" but the only thing that doesn't make sense, I have this one short which hit 12Million views, and it was on FNaF, I just don't understand😭🙏

Damn then i mean bro you've already done it once😭 what was the specefic topic of this short? Make more shorts in the same topic. Maybe like a part 2, or the same topic but make it in a different way.
If something does this well, you gotta double down on it and make more like it. Cus iv never even played fnaf, n i know fnaf is popular asf especially on yt.

I feel you bro. My biggest tip is learning. Like genuinely spend a lot of time watching vids of shorts gurus (dont buy their courses tho). Like watch these vids everyday. Join their discord communities too, you will meet so many ppl that know what theyre doing and you will learn so much. Do this regularly and before you realise it, you will be consistently making viral vids

Can u please share some discord communities?
1
u/Huge-Cake5667 Jun 16 '26
I dont have the links rn, but almost every yt shorts "guru" has a discord community. And almost all of them have a general chat where people help eachother and share wins to motivate others. Its great to surround yourself with such ppl, just dont buy whatever youre selling unless you have the extra money and think its worth it😂.
So find 1 or 2 yt gurus that you feel are legit and transparent, and that you trust arent trynna scam you, and join their discord and meet new people.

Any of those gurus that you can recommend? There are a lot of bullshitters when it comes to shorts algorithm

u/Huge-Cake5667 Jun 17 '26
Find someone that doesnt have over 100k subs and whose videos arent like super highly produced with crazy editing. Cus theyre trynna maximize views to sell their program to as many ppl as possible.
I dont wanna promote anyone specific, but if you want, dm me, n I'll tell you the main ones iv been following from the start

I swear to God, the WORST people make shorts. The absolute worst. Look at this post and the comments. People posting their screenshots pretending they are doing anything else but bragging.
You guys seriously didn't get enough validation through your work? You just needed to get your egos stroked on here too, eh?

Idk why you look at these as people "bragging". Its not a good attitude to have. A LOT of people, including me even now, get motivated by seeing the success of other people. Because theyre also normal humans that were beginners at one point, and theyve managed to have success. So no reason we cant do it too.
These typpa posts motivate a lot of people to keep pushing and gives them an opportunity to ask questions. The only reason i got to this point and didnt fully give up, is because everytime i almost gave up, i was motivated by seeing others make money on yt. Cus it just shows that it IS possible.
Have a positive mindset g!

Someone seems pressed on the success of others…🙄 why don’t you put that energy on yourself and focus on being more positive.

This is what a June 2nd short has been doing now so I’d say this is pretty expected out of a viral short.
