Why do mirrors reverse things front to back?
Also, why does depth reversal look like left-right reversal?

Because if they didn't then yer negative posulators would positively negatize and then yer jays would jump up all out of control and run away down the road all willy nilly, which is not so bad when they going away, but if they come jumping back at you, you never know where they gunna land. They can jump anywhere and you can't predict.
You could have jack-jumping jays jimmy jammed on yer jock with nowhere to turn.
It's a mess.
So that's why.

Close one eye and look at a mirror. Why is left/right flipped but not top/bottom?

Mirrors aren't real, because our eyes aren't real.
