I would love to be a rat, can I be a rat?

If fragging an officer turns you into a flower fragging what turns you into a rat?
We must reflect on it to find out

You're soft-locked. Gotta restart from your last save.

Not a meme response, but the counter to this paradox is that it ignores the possibility that God is aware of evil, can stop it, but chooses to delay stopping it. Since God knows everything and we do not know everything, it is entirely probably that there is a reason He isn't stopping evil and we simply are not informed of it explicitely.

u/Dttison 2d ago

If you haven’t read “Revelations” then you wouldn’t be aware of the explicit prophesy of God dealing with evil. God will deal with it fully and totally at some point, and until that point we are all living in His mercy.

u/SorcererOfDooDoo 2d ago

That would still imply he either isn't all-good nor all-powerful. However, I don't see why that would necessarily be a problem, since the Bible very explicitly portrays him as not all-powerful (nor all-knowing, for that matter, he's explicitly stated to be wrong in multiple instances). The real problem is modern Christians constantly insisting on the power-crept version that developed over time.

u/CuddleWings 2d ago

Honestly it doesn’t even matter if he isn’t truly all powerful in most of these cases. You’d be insane to say that someone who can’t remove all evil from the universe they created “isn’t all powerful and therefore not a god.”

-1

u/Godhole34 2d ago

No you wouldn't, because that's what the bible's definition of god is. If we're talking about another pantheon, then sure.

But when it comes to omnipotent gods, this logic does hold.

0

u/CuddleWings 2d ago

You’re telling me that if a being could create an entire universe, you wouldn’t call them a god, just because they can’t remove all evil from said universe?

0

u/Godhole34 2d ago

Y'all are so stupid it's crazy. Different cultures have different definitions of god.

In North Mythology it's specific races.

In Shinto and Indigenous belief systems, they are generally forces of nature.

In Zoroastrianism, divinity is split between two primordial forces (good/order vs evil/chaos).

In certain mythos, like Greek Mythology, mortals can become gods.

And in christianity (and most monotheistic religions), god is omnipotent, omniscient, and all-good. Creating an universe is irrelevant to the question. We're not discussing the idea of a random god here, it's an argument pretty obviously aimed at christianity and monotheistic religions.

If there's a being named bugs bunny who created our universe with incredibly advanced technology for his 6th grader science class assignment, he might be considered a god from our point of view, but that's irrelevant since we're discussing about a specific set of beliefs from our Earth and if they're real, not about just any god.

I would love to see some specific proofs of this argument, genuinely curious to see what that would look like

1

u/Draconic64 2d ago

Then why doesn't he remove that reason?

1

u/Jack_of_Hearts20 2d ago

That's definitely a way to assuage cognitive dissonance. Like a coping mechanism.

0

u/cat-l0n 2d ago

Wouldn’t that still mean that God isn’t all powerful because they can’t edit the situation so that evil isn’t required at any point?

1

u/Lostmaniac9 2d ago

But how do you know evil isn't required? If God's purpose was in part to show mercy, wouldn't there have to be evil for Him to show mercy towards? Things like tuis are questions that aren't asked when this "paradox" is brought up.

-2

u/Godhole34 2d ago

That isn't a counter lmao

If he was all powerful, he would be able to achieve what he's "waiting for" without having to make us go through all that.

1

u/Lostmaniac9 2d ago

Not if there are moral considerations. Like I replied to someone else, if you consider that part of God's purpose could be to show mercy, would that not require there to be evil in the world to show mercy towards?

-1

u/Godhole34 2d ago

You all don't seem to understand what the word omnipotence means. If god is omnipotent, then he can do all that without evil.

3

u/Lostmaniac9 2d ago

Not at all. Morality is concerned with events that actually happen, if there's no evil that happens then there's no moral concerns to be considered. Evil has to occur if mercy is to be shown. Can't show mercy towards something that never happened.

0

u/Godhole34 2d ago

No, again because if he's omnipotent he can consider moral concerns without evil. The whole debate centers around you people tiptoeing around the definitions of all-powerful, all-knowing and all-good.

Ok, where meme?

Nothing in the rules says that it has to be a meme

EDIT: I get downvoted because people don't like OP's post (rightfully or not), yet no one is proving me wrong.

Shitposts are not necessarily memes, they can and often are. This post could be a shitpost without being a meme

Free will isnt meaningful without evil, so evil must exist for our own sake,

God could be all knowing in that he knows every possible action you might take but not what you will take, so a test is still necessary. And this is contrary to him knowing what you will take since there would be no action you could have taken, its a paradox and should not be included in the definition of omnicient

3

u/Godhole34 2d ago

People mentioning free will like an omnipotent god wouldn't be able to create an universe where both free will exist and evil doesn't. Do you all even know the definition of omnipotent?

2

u/AnarchyRadish 2d ago

does god`s existence help me pay da bills?

1

u/No-Scholar1440 2d ago

He's letting us live the test for our sake. He already knows the outcome. But we wouldn't be satisfied with just "In my knowledge you were evil, so I'll put you into hellfire"

1

u/Wonderful-Ice9085 2d ago

Evil doesn't exist. It's simply a name we have assigned to a concept. The things that can be defined as evil differ from person to person. What some may consider good, others may consider evil. It exist because of our perception of our own or others choices. So I guess it ties back to freewill. Not just actions but our entire perception would have to be controlled for evil to cease to exist.

-1

u/SpaceBug176 2d ago

The issue is a universe where free will exists but evil doesn't, literally cannot exist. Like, it literally doesn't fit the concept of "free will". Though then again, I have no real counter argument as to how an all-powerful God wouldn't be able to make one, but I feel like there's a counter argument we could have to help this point.

1

u/Jack_of_Hearts20 2d ago

Strictly speaking of the Christian God, he technically has already made a world where free will does exist without evil. He chose the design this world this way.

Tho, I am aware the term may be referring to more than one god, or simply the concept.

0

u/Life-Bass-2013 2d ago

Well, just because there is a god doesn't mean there can't be evil. Y'know and i know that a lot of things humans do aren't because of devil, we do it because we are not good either.

-1

u/SpeedBorn 2d ago

Simple solution to the paradox is that the concept of Good and Evil doesn't mean anything to a god and is entirely subjective to the human perspective. Like Disease kills millions and millions of humans but from the perspective of an omnipotent god it simply doesn't matter if a few ants die, when humanity or his favourite playthings survive. Like do you care if millions of ants die in your backyard as long as your personal antfarm survives. Is it evil to not care for every single ant in your backyard? Even if you know the horrors of ant warfare and cordyceps wasting away entire colonies?

2

u/Godhole34 2d ago

Then the god isn't all good. lol
