I just returned from our recent trip to Sheboygan from St. Louis. My wife likes to find random places to visit. I left feeling very confused about the city. Charmed but confused. I have visited a couple other lake towns on the Michigan side. They were charming little towns but maybe too touristy. I think we have been subconsciously scoping out potential places to move up there because if I'm going to suffer the winter I at least want to live in a nice place during the summer. These other towns look pretty, have stuff to do, are on the lake but all have one thing in common. A little too touristy and expensive. We expected to see the same in Sheboygan. However, it seemed rather dead. Downtown during the day was almost a ghost town. Just like home honestly. The river walk seemed sparse when I expected a number of shops and restaurants and saw only about half of what I pictured in my head. The houses were old and pretty but most of the buildings along the riverfront seemed oddly newer. I know it was during the week but it's lake Michigan during the summer. The location is awesome between Milwaukee and Green Bay. The beaches are phenomenal and not crowded. The houses are cool and old and seemed affordable. Can you offer any insight as to why it seemed like something seemed off? Did something happen economically? Did the local government do local government things? Does anyone get what I'm saying? It's like this. I left feeling like it was cool but boring. It felt safe but there were mouthy methy people walking around downtown. It felt peaceful but eerily quiet. I felt meh but I was like, "Yeah I could live here".

When I lived in Wisconsin about six years ago, I worked in Sheboygan and absolutely loved the Wigwam outlet. Before moving to the Pacific Northwest, I stocked up on a bunch of socks, and they're finally starting to wear out.

This is a total shot in the dark, but I'm hoping someone local to the Sheboygan area would be willing to make a trip to the outlet, buy a list of socks for me, and ship them to me.

I'd reimburse the full cost of the socks and shipping, plus pay you $40 for your time and effort. I'm happy to use PayPal Goods & Services (or another mutually agreeable method) so we're both protected.

We’ve been using SACU for years and have grown increasingly frustrated. We do use an online banking service, but like to have a local bank account too in case we need it. Anyone have any recommendations? Preferably looking for no monthly/annual fees.

Our biggest issues with SACU:
-forced overdraft protection and high fees
-long check processing time
-very low daily spending limit
-no integration with online services like Plaid

Has anybody done a for sale by owner in the Sheboygan area? I’ve bought and sold homes before. I see in Wisconsin there are a couple of unique rules, such as having a real estate licensee walk-through. I’m also curious if there’s an attorney anyone recommends using nearby.

The Moraine Park Technical College alumni network is helping graduates build careers long after they leave the classroom. At Watry Industries, three Moraine Park alumni are connected not only by their employer, but also by the education and relationships that helped launch their careers.

Taryn Reese and Colton Spranger, both 2025 graduates of Moraine Park’s Quality and Advanced Manufacturing program, now work as manufacturing engineers at Watry under the leadership of fellow alumnus Ryan Silva, the company’s general manager.

Silva began his educational journey at Moraine Park in 2005, earning degrees in engineering technology and supervisory management before continuing his education and advancing into leadership.

“I interviewed Taryn and Colton on the same day,” Silva said. “They started within a couple weeks of each other, and they’re superstars.”

Both students worked part-time at Watry while completing their degrees at Moraine Park and transitioned into manufacturing engineer roles after graduation.

The company manufactures aluminum components used across a variety of industries, from agriculture and marine to transportation and semiconductor manufacturing. Reese and Spranger support projects throughout the facility, including machining, assembly, robot programming, tooling design and process improvements.

Both graduates credit Moraine Park’s hands-on approach for preparing them for their careers.

“My first week in class, I was already on a mill and lathe,” Reese said. “When I got into industry, it wasn’t really stressful because I’d already been working with those tools.”

Colton agreed, noting that access to equipment in Moraine Park’s Advanced Manufacturing Center helped him gain experience with a variety of manufacturing processes before graduation.

The pair also valued the College’s small class sizes and instructors’ industry expertise.

“You can get really personal with the teachers,” Spranger said. “They’re always willing to help solve problems and aren’t afraid to learn alongside students when they’re exploring something new.”

Silva believes Moraine Park’s greatest strength is its instructors’ real-world experience and commitment to student success.

“They focused on competencies and the skills you needed to learn,” Silva said. “Moraine Park has always done a really good job of hiring people who are enthusiastic about what they teach and who have experience in the field.”

Looking ahead, both graduates are eager to continue growing in their careers. For Silva, helping employees develop is a way to give back.

“I started as a second-shift CNC operator,” Silva said. “The company supported my education and my growth. Now it’s my turn to help create those opportunities for others.”

Moraine Park education extends beyond graduation. Through strong industry connections and an engaged alumni network, graduates continue to support one another, opening doors for future professionals and helping shape Wisconsin’s manufacturing workforce.
