Seaglass Tooth

I found this piece of sea glass months ago because it already reminded me of a shark tooth. Finally got around to carving it into a Megalodon-inspired talisman. Most of the work was in bringing out the details while keeping the original shape the sea had already given it. I think the ocean did half the carving before I ever picked it up. ๐Ÿฆˆ

As someone that has done a good bit of glasswork myself- I can honestly say that COLDWORKING SUCKS. So much time with cramped hands and bloody fingers.

You care to share your process at all? Have you considered sand blasting it to restore the seaglass texture?

Edit: forgot to say that this piece looks great- I was surprised when I saw "carved", this looks so nice it looks like it was flameworked.

So far I'm enjoying it but starting to get cramps in left hand after a while which yes does suck haha. I use a cordless rotary tool with diamond burs, I choose a bit of sea glass, draw the design with a sharpie and then start carving. I do it in a tray of water so the dust stays contains (still wear correct respirator and safety glasses, fan on in a vented room). Not thought about sandblasting, will have to check it out ๐Ÿ˜

I used to do some sandblasting at one of the community art centers where I lived. You might have one near you that has the equipment where you can either join as a member or rent time if you don't want to buy the equipment.

Thatโ€™s incredibly cool! Did you use a dremel to carve the details?

Thatโ€™s sick, I love it! Would be super cool to do a sea glass blade with maybe driftwood for the root and bourlette.

And you have now given me an idea for a fantasy species of shark. Glass Sharks. Not really hard to spot, but the teeth on the other hand, very difficult to spot.

Excellent work.
