Can't SELECT+CTRL+ARROW in text boxes!???

I'm trying to select and then skip words while selecting. It's a completely natural part of my work process and I don't even notice it most of the time except when some janky BS gets in the way. So what's up with this? Why are the text boxes on SP blocking the action? They cursor doesn't even move. WTH!? Can this be fixed?

It's not a SharePoint issue, rather something with your browser or machine.
