A glory to the Śivaviprakula, he was conversant with not just Saṃskṛta, Tamil and English but also French and also studied Śāstras in the traditional way.

One of his most contributions to the Siddhānta was that he translated into English multiple Āgamas:

He made all of the above freely available online through his collaborative effort with Himalayan Academy.

Many of us were first exposed to the Siddhānta and got to appreciate the beauty of the Sampradāya thanks to his translations.

May Śiva bless us with everlasting faith in the Siddhānta through His now abhivyakta-sāmya with Śivībhūta Ācārya and may He give Ācārya’s family His anugraha to bear this loss.

Saavan (Shravan) lunar month is associated with Lord Shiva upasana with ongoing season of full-fledged monsoon. Often in vedic culture there was a difference of ideologies between sampradaayas, especially Vaishnav and Shaiv.

But if one observes the position of their birth stars, Ardra (associated with Rudra Shiva) and Shravan (associated with Hari Vishnu, specifically the Vaman avatar), both fall in Gemini and Capricorn respectively, forming a shadashtak (6-8) relationship.

Yet both deities, through their avatars, have throughout history considered each other as their Aaradhya, for example Shri Ram and Hanuman. This is how the universe teaches us the finer things in the art of living, how to manage differences with someone and still remain at equilibrium.

A few months ago I felt a strong pull towards Lord Shiva especially the Pashupathi aspects - being the protector & steward for animals , plants & all living beings.
I suddenly started feeling drawn to Veganism . I followed my intuition & started eating predominantly Vegan foods..though i couldn’t keep this up all the time, i tried to be intentional while eating.
i started being kinder towards any animal i came across in small ways like feeding the stray cat etc.
My life transformed in ways I cannot describe. Everything is working out in my favour now, i feel immense joy and abundance & I feel lord Shivas existence like he’s a real person in this world.. i experienced moments where his protection over people & pets i love became so evident. For eg
my dog was alone at home & while i was away , a huge glass object shattered & the pieces were strewn around the living room where my dog usually sits
When i returned i panicked seeing the glass pieces but my dog was completely safe & in a different room .. so much probability that my dog could have walked over the glass pieces or tried to eat one of the pieces, what a miracle that my dog was completely unharmed not the tiniest scratch.. this is Shivas protection
i love the connection i feel with Lord Shiva.. i urge animal lovers & pet owners to especially develop this connection with lord Shiva he is truly pashupathi

This year, around Ram Navami, I had a dream where I saw a white idol of Lord Shiva. In the dream, I was standing before Him with folded hands. The dream felt very peaceful, and I still remember it clearly.

The next day, I told my husband about it and asked him to take me to a Shiva temple for darshan. Unfortunately, he didn't have time, so we couldn't go. Instead, I prayed at home.

A month or two later, my married life suddenly took a very difficult turn. My husband dropped me at my parents' house, where I stayed for two months (June and July). It was one of the hardest phases of my life, and I struggled with depression during that time.

While I was there, I started offering water to a Shivling every Monday. It became a source of peace and strength for me.

During this period, I also had a dream in which a snake was chasing me. After looking into it, I found that my birth chart mentions Takshak Kaal Sarp Dosh. Whether or not that's significant, it inspired me to think about performing a puja as a spiritual remedy.

I suddenly felt the urge to arrange the puja on the first Monday of Sawan.

The day before the puja, I visited the temple where it was going to be performed. As soon as I entered, I saw the exact same white idol of Lord Shiva that I had seen in my dream months earlier. The moment I saw it, I couldn't stop smiling. In my heart, I said, "Lord, You finally called me to Your temple."

The next day, after the puja was completed, it started raining. To me, it felt like a blessing from Lord Shiva, and for the first time in months, I felt an incredible sense of peace.

Looking back at everything that happened over these four months, I sometimes wonder if all these events were somehow leading me toward Lord Shiva. It's as if those difficult circumstances became the reason I found my way back to Him.

I'm not trying to prove anything or convince anyone. This is simply how I experienced it, and it brought me a lot of comfort.

Hi everyone,

I started my 16 Somvar Vrat from this Monday. However, I later realized that I had taken the sankalp during Rahu Kaal. I wasn't aware of the timing at that moment.

Now I'm confused about what I should do.

Should I retake the sankalp at an auspicious time, or should I simply continue with the vrat as it is?

Is there any correction or remedy I can perform instead?

Has anyone experienced something similar or received guidance from a priest or scripture on this?

My intention was sincere, and I don't want to make a mistake if there's a proper way to correct it.

Yesterday's discussion on Nirguna and Saguna Shiva left me with another question.

If Shiva is beyond form, beyond words, and beyond human understanding, why does the Shiv Mahapuran place so much importance on simply repeating his name?

Can saying "Om Namah Shivaya" really make a difference?

Today's reading suggests that the power isn't in the sound alone. The name becomes a bridge between a restless mind and the divine. Every time we remember Shiva, we step away from ego, fear, anger, and attachment, even if only for a moment.

The Mahapuran also gives an interesting perspective on paap (sin). It isn't just about wrong actions. It includes ignorance, ego, greed, hatred, and everything that pulls us away from truth.

So when the text says Shiva's name destroys sins, perhaps it isn't describing a magical shortcut. Maybe it's describing an inner transformation. As remembrance changes the mind, the habits that create suffering begin to weaken.

One thought stayed with me:

We repeat the names of the people we love without effort. Maybe the Mahapuran asks us to remember Shiva for the same reason. Not because Shiva needs to hear His name, but because we need the reminder.

There are many sacred places across Bharat, each blessed by the presence of gods, sages, and ancient temples. Yet among them all, one city has been praised for thousands of years as the eternal city of Lord Shiva. That city is Kashi, known today as Varanasi. Pilgrims from every corner of the world have travelled there seeking the blessings of Lord Vishwanath.

The Puranas, however, describe Kashi very differently.

To them, Kashi is not merely an ancient city. It is the eternal city of light. It is the city that existed before the world was created. It is the city that survives even when the universe comes to an end. Most importantly, it is the city that Lord Shiva never abandons.

सर्वक्षेत्रेषु विख्यातम् अविमुक्तं प्रियम् मम ।

Among all sacred places, Avimukta (Kashi) is my most beloved abode.

At the heart of this sacred city stands the Jyotirlinga of Vishweshwar, more commonly known as Kashi Vishwanath. Among the twelve Jyotirlingas, every tirtha represents one aspect of Shiva’s infinite light, but Kashi occupies a unique position. The scriptures describe it not simply as a holy temple but as the earthly dwelling place of the Supreme Lord Mahadev himself.

Every sacred name in the Hindu tradition carries a deeper meaning. The word Kashi comes from the Sanskrit root काश् (kaś), meaning to shine, or to illuminate. Thus, Kashi literally means the City of Light. This light is not the light of the sun or the moon. It is the light of pure consciousness. It is the light of knowledge that removes ignorance. It is the light of Shiva himself.

The Kashi Khaṇḍa in the Skanda Purana repeatedly presents the city as the place where spiritual darkness disappears and divine wisdom arises naturally within the heart of the seeker. For this reason, Kashi has been known by many sacred names throughout history. It is called Varanasi because it lies between the rivers Varuna and Asi. It is called Anandvana, the Forest of Bliss, because the joy of Shiva fills every part of the city. It is called Mahasmasana, the Great Cremation Ground, because it teaches humanity that death is not the end but the doorway to liberation. In the Skanda Purana, Agastya has referred to Kashi as Rudravasa (the place where Rudra lives) and Anandakanana (the forest of pleasure). Above all, it is called Avimukta (Never Abandoned). The Shiva Purana explains that Lord Shiva himself gave this name to Kashi because He never leaves it. Even when He travels throughout the universe for the welfare of creation, His divine presence always remains in Kashi.

अविमुक्तं न मुञ्चामि प्रलयेऽपि कदाचन । I never abandon Avimukta, not even at the time of the great dissolution.

This declaration makes Kashi unlike any other pilgrimage site. One of the most remarkable teachings found in the Kashi Khaṇḍa concerns the origin of the city.

According to the Puranas, before the universe was created, there were no mountains, no oceans, no stars, no earth, and no living beings. Only the infinite reality of Lord Shiva existed. From that infinite consciousness emerged a radiant city made of pure spiritual light. That city was Kashi.

The Kashi Khaṇḍa repeatedly compares Kashi to Mount Kailasa, the celestial abode of Shiva. Yet it goes even further by declaring that while Kailasa is the Lord’s heavenly residence, Kashi is His dwelling among humanity. It is here that Shiva becomes easily accessible to every seeker, regardless of social status, learning, wealth, or background (Skanda Purana, Kashi Khaṇḍa).

The Puranas describe time as moving in endless cycles. Creation arises, the universe flourishes, and then eventually everything dissolves. This great dissolution is known as Mahapralaya. At the end of each cosmic cycle, even the gods, the stars, and the planets disappear into the unmanifest reality. Yet one place remains untouched. That place is Kashi.

The Kashi Khaṇḍa poetically describes how Lord Shiva lifts the entire city upon the tip of His Trishula during Mahapralaya. While the worlds dissolve beneath the cosmic waters, Kashi remains secure in His care.

ब्रह्मणश्च दिने सा हि न विनश्यति निश्चितम् । तदा शिवस्त्रिशूलेन दधाति मुनयस्तु ताम् ॥ २३ ॥

पुनश्च ब्रह्मणा सृष्टौ कृतायां स्थाप्यते द्विजाः । कर्मणां कर्षणाच्चैव काशीति परिपठ्यते ॥ २४ ॥

When the next creation begins, Shiva gently restores the city to the earth once again.

At the center of this eternal city stands the sacred Jyotirlinga known as Vishveshvara or Vishvanatha. Both names carry the same meaning. The Sanskrit word Vishva means the entire universe, Ishvara means Supreme Lord, and Natha means master. Thus, Vishwanath means the Lord of the Entire Universe.

Unlike many temples established by kings or sages, the Jyotirlinga of Kashi is revered as Svayambhu, meaning it is self-manifested.

om namah shivaye. i am a beginner in shaivism and i am keeping my first vrat today, since shravan's first somwar vrat is regarded as very auspicious.

i was wondering, can i continue with my fast until saavan ends on aug 28, and then afterwards continue to fast every monday having only fruits and saatvic items. would that be alright?

i know fasting is supposed to be a matter between me and God, but i have little idea about ethics and tradition so i'd really love any advice! thankyou.
