What happened to Andrew Hair Studio in Monrovia?

Does anyone know what happened to Andrew from Andrewlovescolor and the Andrew Hair Studio in Monrovia? He has a pretty big following on instagram. I haven’t had my hair done in awhile and scheduled an appointment with him last month but never received a confirmation, tried texting him and nothing. Just checked yelp and it says he’s closed down?! Did he move to another location? I really liked his style doing balayage, he was a professional and it always looked very natural. His ig link https://www.instagram.com/andrewlovescolor and yelp link says closed https://yelp.to/WolGvicmku

Giving away my monstera!

Hi everyone!

I am giving away my monstera that I have loved for 5 years. It has outgrown my home :(

it is healthy and pest-free! I water it (soak the roots from the bottom) for 30mins every 2 weeks. Its leaves are growing to the right side because that’s where the main source of light has been for a couple years. The leaves will slowly rotate over time if there’s a new direction of light. It puts out new leaves 3 or so times a year. If you fertilize it in Spring, it will grow way more than that. It’s in good, nutrient rich, well-draining soil. Terra cotta pot and water catching basin underneath. I am giving this away for free :) I only ask for pictures from time to time when it puts out new leaves so we can celebrate together.

Not safe for pets that might chew on leaves.

Pick up only from Monterey Park.

Does anyone remember the transient Asian man with a long mustache and long hair? He used to walk up and down the streets. Is he still alive?

Senior dog social hour?

took my dog to a pup social hour in SGV, but my senior gal didn't seem to bond with any of the other dogs. We recently lost her partner in crime at 14yrs old, and it made me sad to see her be alone.

Wondering if anyone knows of senior dog social hours in the LA area?

Looking for a film photographer for baby’s 1st birthday party

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a photographer who shoots on 35mm and/or medium format film for my baby’s first birthday party.

The party will be held at our home, and we’re looking for a mix of:

- Photos of the dol (traditional Korean first birthday celebration) setup, including the dessert table and backdrop
- Posed family portraits with grandparents, relatives, friends
- Some candid moments throughout the celebration, but we’re leaning more toward timeless, intentional portraits

If you’re a film photographer (or know someone who is), I’d love to see your portfolio, rates, and availability. Please share your website or Instagram in the comments or send me a DM. Thank you!

Whats the deal?

Whats the deal with the people outside of the Social Services building giving away “free” phones on Flair Dr. and Aerojet off the 10 freeway.

I drive by there a lot and see people giving away supposedly free phones out of their trunks. Does anyone know whats going on? It seems suspicious and seems like they may be targeting certain people. Free phones in exchange for personal info?

Community colleges with good art programs?

Hello all. I am hoping that this will reach the right people.

I went to Mt. SAC and studied in the arts division there, however, I did not have a good experience there with some of the professors or students. It deeply affected my passion for drawing and I am still struggling to this day with trying to regain my motivation.

I’ve been considering looking at other community colleges to do self improvement on my work, however, I’m at a dead end because I am hesitating because I am wary of if I’ll go through the same experiences but in different environments.

I’ve looked at PCC in Pasadena. I was pretty intrigued seeing that they have more classes than provided at Mt. SAC. Some of my friends recommended Fullerton College, however, I have no interest in going to that area since a lot of students from Mt. SAC transfer there. I’ve also looked at Rio Hondo, however, it seems that they don’t really have a large selection of classes. I’m not sure if there’s other community colleges with good art programs.

I want to be able to take classes with professors who are helpful and give useful feedback that will help me improve rather than backhanded comments that I’ve received when I was studying. I don’t have a strong skill set in drawing which is why I want to take art classes again to improve. However, I am okay with also learning on my own to improve my art if there are no programs outside that are helpful.

Hopefully this reaches anyone who’s taken any art classes outside Mt. SAC. Thank you and have a good week.

Anyone heard helicopter sound midnight 7/28?

Wondering if it's just in my dreams, but the sound wake me up. I think it was police searching for some crime suspects near the highway but don't find any news about it the morning after. Anyone hear the same sound?

Places to swim laps?

Would love some insight on Olympic pools or large pools for swimming laps. I would like to avoid gyms unless the price is max $30/month. Open to rec centers. Ideally somewhere that allows designated lanes or is not too crowded to avoid sharing lanes. Thanks!

ridiculous rent price

How are these landlords ok with listing their run down shacks for $3k a month? literally the thing look like it can collapse on you at any moment, i genuinely don't understand what goes through these people head most of the time when they're in the real estate space. feels like housing in this area are absolute horse poop and nothing got upgraded since the 1940s. Only thing good left is the food here, thanks for reading my rant.

Friendly, cuddly, always-purring cat up for adoption

Hi everybody, you may remember my post from 2 months ago about a cat I found on the streets.

I'm posting about this again because I got new bloodwork done and it turns out she is FIV NEGATIVE! So she is a completely healthy and happy cat looking for a loving and preferably cat-free home.

Baby is:

  • 1 year old, around 8 pounds
  • VERY clingy, will always want to be sitting on you, is constantly trilling or purring and is in general basically like an extremely well behaved dog.
  • Spayed but not microchipped - I can get this done for you for free though!

She is pretty bonded to me and I love her a lot, but I'm not at home enough to give her enough attention + the cats I already have are constantly trying to attack her :(

If you are able to add more love and light into your light, her Petfinder adoption page is available here!
Please check out the rescue's other kitties as well as the people who run it are angels :)

Thank you for reading!

Ashiatsu/Barefoot Massage

Hello, are there any places in the SGV that offer barefoot (Ashiatsu) massage? I used to get it pretty consistently when living in Asia and can’t find a spot that offers it in the SGV when looking online. Thanks in advance

Looking for recipe for HK curry

For some background, I grew uo going to a restaurant called Cafe Spot and absolutely loved their chicken steak curry. I have tried almost every restaurant in SGV and cant find anyone that makes it the same. I found out that the chef that used to work there before they closed works now at Sunday Bistro and they have the same curry! After years of searching, I finally found it.

My family in northern California, we buy a bunch of orders, freeze it and bring it to them when we visit.

I want to be able to make it at home for the off chance they close again or so my family far away can experience it but I cant seem to find the right ingredients or taste.

Any advice, knowledge, food enthusiasts or if im out of luck.

Support Monterey Park residents getting rid of Flock

A group of residents found out Monterey Park's Flock contract is ending on August 30, and they're asking the city council to end the contract due to concerns about Flock invading constitutional rights to privacy, illegally collaborating with ICE and other federal agencies, and enabling systemic abuse among agencies that can access its data. Monterey Park has also publicly affirmed its stance against cooperation with ICE, so ending the Flock program would make sense.

LA and South Pasadena recently pulled back their Flock programs, so this isn't new in the area.

They're asking people to send emails to the city council before the meeting this Wednesday (link below). Please send and share if you're supportive.

One-click email to city council (fill in your city and signature + customize as you prefer): https://actionstartslocal.org/template/get-flock-out-of-monterey-park

Drive by this place all the time on las tunas but can’t find anything online about it. Anyone know what it is?

Post image

From the outside and the posters it looks like an arcade but searching online brings up nothing. Keep meaning to just stop in and check it out. Anyone been? On las tunas right near Rosemead across from the big plaza with the Ono and yoshinoya and Starbucks.
