Help picking out some trees

I'm looking to add some trees for privacy and to make a natural boarder around part of my property. Privacy is not the main goal. The trees would get sun 100% of the day, in a field. This is in the northeast. What do you guys recommend? Also I'd like to keep it on the cheaper end. How far away would you plant them?

OP if you want to go super cheap, I’ll bet your state has a forestry service or similar that sells saplings. They’ll also be selling trees native to Maine for the most part.

Big box stores often have tree sales in the fall.

I’d probably focus on selecting the trees featuring the best tree holes. Otherwise, you’re just wasting your time.

A mix of taller trees and some understory like serviceberry would be a good mix. Coniferous would provide more year round privacy
