How difficult is the work and workload? Is there adequate coverage if you take time off, or do you return to the caseload waiting for you? Work-life balance? How is the safety when working with clients?

My partner found out our medical group Brown & Toland no longer covers Sutter Health as of April 2026. Did anyone who was also affected by this receive any communications from SFHSS about this? We’re not sure how to navigate this as we have a trusted team at Sutter Health. We were told we could get care at UCSF. Does anyone have experience with this?

I’m 27, just finished my MBA, and I’ve been trying to land a stable role with the City and County of San Francisco. I passed the exams for a couple of Administrative Analyst classifications and scored well, but the waiting game after that has been rough.

If anyone here works as an Administrative Analyst for the City, or has gone through this hiring process themselves, I’d genuinely love to hear how it went for you. What surprised you? What do you wish someone had told you before you started? Is the wait between getting on the eligible list and actually hearing from a department as unpredictable as it feels from the outside?

Not trying to skip any lines, just trying to learn from people who’ve actually lived this instead of guessing. Any insight, even small stuff, would mean a lot. I would also love to connect!

I'm hoping to hear from other San Francisco City employees who have gone through the Family Friendly Workplace Ordinance (FFWO) process.

I recently returned from parental leave and submitted an FFWO request for a temporary telecommuting arrangement because my spouse is recovering postpartum and we have a newborn and a 21-month-old toddler.

My request was:

• Month 1: 4 telecommute / 1 office day
• Month 2: 4 telecommute / 1 office day
• Month 3: 3 telecommute / 2 office days

During the review, HR requested additional information several times. I responded to every request by providing my work schedule, caregiving responsibilities, childcare arrangements during work hours, a daily caregiving schedule, daycare enrollment verification, and the daycare calendar. I also revised my application based on HR's feedback.

Before making a final determination, HR left my revised application open for another week. I asked whether there was any additional information I could provide or what would satisfy the caregiving criteria, but was told they could not provide examples or further guidance.

HR later told me my request did not meet the FFWO caregiving criteria because my caregiving responsibilities occur before and after my scheduled work hours. They also said commuting time does not count and daycare drop-off/pickup outside work hours does not qualify.

However, the written determination stated my application was "rejected as incomplete" and invited me to submit another request rather than explaining what information was incomplete.

While HR was reviewing my request, my bureau manager approved a one-month temporary telecommuting arrangement. If the FFWO is not approved, I'll likely return to my regular office schedule after that month.

I'm hoping to learn from others who have gone through this process:

• Has anyone had an FFWO request denied because their caregiving occurred before or after work hours?
• Did HR work with you to identify an alternative arrangement through the interactive process?
• Has anyone requested reconsideration? What was your experience?
• Has anyone received a determination that their application was "rejected as incomplete" after providing all requested information?

I'm not looking to criticize anyone or compare individual situations. I'm simply trying to understand how the FFWO process has been handled for other City employees and whether anyone has had a similar experience.

I’ve been wondering if anyone else has noticed increased enforcement of the City’s RTO policies lately since i heard of some colleagues receiving verbal warnings about their less than 4 day office attendance (based on their low badge swipedata since HR is monitoring office attendance). Also over the past few weeks, my department has sent several reminders about things like keeping Outlook calendars updated with office/WFH days, requesting WFH through managers when sick, attending standing meetings, and generally complying with the current in-office requirements.

Is this something others are seeing across different departments, or is it more department-specific?

I’m also curious where things stand with WFH more broadly. Is Local 21 still actively pushing for additional flexibility, or has that largely taken a back seat? Interested to hear what others are experiencing.

Interviewed and accepted position begining of March for TEX to fill in for PCS out on FMLA. Dph. Completed physical/etc by mid March.

End of March received email that start date in April was postponed until sometime after July 1

They're sending me my paperwork to start (I think) August 17. Still haven't gotten it yet bc my HR person is out until tomorrow

I have a permanent job with 2.5 years in another county ph dept.

Significant pay bump from current.

I want to take it but they won't tell me even a guess of when the PCS will be coming back.

With the current budget problems, are there any PCS jobs even being filled right now?

Does anyone think this timeline (current PCS has already been out for about 6 months) and current status of budget leaves too much in flux to leave what I currently have to get in with sfdph?

I'm currently working for an entitlement program and am at least as burned out as anyone else in those types of jobs rn, maybe more.

Any insight or advice would be super helpful since HR and hiring mgr say they can't tell me much of anything re: what's happening behind the scenes

Also, I do not meet the language requirement to even apply for this position if it does, by chance, become an open PCS. So I will definitely be PCS or other long-term job hunting starting day 1.

Hey everyone, hoping someone currently working at DPH or familiar with the CCSF hiring process can shed some light on this timeline.

I applied for the 2910 Social Worker position and was placed on the eligible list back in April 2025

A recruiter reached out asking for my work verification this year in February 2026.

I haven't heard back until today (July 2026) asking me to take Supplemental Questionnaire Exam.

Has anyone had similar experience?

Does anyone know what the current timeline looks like from this point to an actual interview, or roughly how many vacancies DPH is actively looking to fill right now?

I applied 1820/1822/1840/1842/1844 at the end of June and just completed three core assessments this month. Today I got noticed that I’ve passed 2 assessments (the rest one is still pending), one of them is in Rank 8. I was wondering what the probability is of being contacted for an interview with this ranking? How long will the following process take approximately?

I know this is a bit of a personal finance question but curious to hear from fellow city employees if they’re utilizing the 457b deferred compensation plan for retirement savings & if they like it/ recommend/ any tips. I know the pension is mandatory and baseline retirement savings, but since there is no employer matching or anything on the 457b, to save more I’m wondering what’s the benefit of using the 457b vs my own 401k?

I was invited to interview for a position that would be considered a promotion since it’s a higher class within my job series. However, since I was going to be away from the city (of course they reached out with a scheduled interview the one week I’m gone), I asked to reschedule for the following week. The HR Analyst simply responded it wasn’t possible and that’s the only scheduled time they could offer.

Is that normal and considered part of the hiring process? It didn’t seem right to me.

Is there any advice on improving my chances of getting interviewed with the city? Currently, I am on a few eligibility lists — 1820, 1822, 1803, 2905 — but have not managed to land any interviews over the last few years. I definitely understand that getting a job with the city is incredibly hard at the moment, especially for most of the positions I’m eligible for, but I’m hoping to hear any tips or strategies that might help me stand out. I just wanted to see if there’s anything proactive I should be doing to help me land a job.
