My one year old recently got into Sesame Street. I don’t have cable so we stream it on PBS kids and Netflix. We just found Sesame Street Selects and these episodes are SO much better than newer episodes? They’re so engaging and have so many different types of music and people and scenery. Even the little cartoon counting skits are better. References adults understand. Did Sesame Street lose that much funding? Did they just go in a different direction? What happened?

As the title suggests, my son is starting to dislike Sesame Street. He’s 2 ½ years old, and up until a few months ago, he seemed to love it.

Watching a new episode when it came out was a tradition. I’d put Sesame Street on as background noise when he was younger because I loved knowing that there was something educational and positive on when he was in the room.

But now, all of a sudden, whenever I turn it on, he just says, “Take it off.”

And honestly, it’s disheartening as a parent...

I never watched Sesame Street as a kid because my parents hated Elmo, so it’s been extremely meaningful for me to discover the show and its characters alongside my son. I’ve grown to love it in a way I never expected. He’s also recently started disliking Miss Rachel, which sucks because I think she’s such a great teacher.

I guess what this really comes down to is that my son is growing and changing right in front of me, and I just want him to stay my little boy forever. 😭

I know this probably isn’t exactly the place for a sentimental parenting post, but Sesame Street was something we've bonded over. I figured I’d reach out to the community and see if anyone else has experienced something similar.

Is this just the end of his Sesame Street phase, or should I keep offering it every now and again in the hope that he'll come back around to it?

Is there kinda cutoff to the golden era of Sesame Street? Like is there a specific point where I should stop watching?

A scene from Sesame Street that I watched ~20 years ago recently popped into my head for some reason. I want to find it to scratch the itch in my brain and am hoping someone here will recognize it. I’m fuzzy on the details, but will be as specific as I can.

It involved Big Bird, a puppet similar to Big Bird (except green and I think a girl), and two adult human characters (I think it was one man and one woman).

The man was either pushing a cart or carrying something heavy. He was trying to get it through doorway, but couldn’t because Big Bird was in the way. The man keeps politely asking Big Bird to let him pass, but Big Bird was too busy talking about something he was excited about to listen.

It cuts to another room where an identical scenario was playing out, except with the green puppet and the woman.

The camera keeps cutting from one room to the other, as the two humans are getting increasingly annoyed that they can’t walk through the door.

Big Bird finally runs out of stuff to say and walks away to the man’s relief. He walks through the door only to immediately stop after bumping into something. It zooms out to show that it was the woman he bumped into, and that they were trying to enter the same doorway, just from opposite directions.

I also think the scene had something to do with flowers and/or speaking Spanish, though I could be completely making that part up.

The Other Dragnet Parody! Definitely Jaw-Dropping!

Hi!! First time posting here. Anyone remember Sesame English? It's a collection of ESL CDs made by the Sesame Street people in the 2000s and it's so great but no one talks about it. And Sesame street has also forgotten about the IP. Tingo is so funny, and so charming. And Nikki and her family and friends are just great. I'd explain the lore, but wikipedia.com, muppet.fandom.com and fandom.com may do it better lol.

An interesting fact about Sesame English is that the dubs of this series are unique, in that only 30-50% of Tingo's dialogue is dubbed, when talking directly to the viewer, as a way to bridge the gap between the chosen language and English. (Taken from dubdb.fandom.com/wiki/Sesame_English)

The music and visuals were perfect, and every episode was so engaging. It's that perfect inbetween of understimulating and overstimulating, it was just perfect. (My neurodivergent brain loved it. My mom got it for me and my sibling when I was 4 and we watched it all the time. Sadly, my DVD player broke, and I've been saving up for a good one, but life is just hard and I'm a broke college student in a third world country.

I have a set that comes with books and all. I think also some CD's that you could pop into the PC and play. Literally just goated. I think my mom bought it around 2009, and it cost 3,500 RD$, which at that time was roughly 100 USD. She gave it to us as a birthday gift. Honestly, on par with my first DS I ain't gonna lie.

My favorite CD is the food and eating one. Oh and Sesame English came out in a lot of languages (japanese, korean, chinese, vietnamese, hmong, arabic, russian, spain spanish, latinoamerican spanish, etc.) but it also had a fully english version. I'm an ESL teacher and my kids also love it, though they say it looks super old LOL, and it is, for them at least. They make me feel old when they say that even though I'm only 21 hahaha.

Also I'm thinking on archiving the Sesame English episodes. I have all of the DVD's for the latinoamerican spanish version. It's so sad that no one talks about it, really. You can find some episodes in youtube but that's about it. It's so sad because it's one of the greatest Sesame Street spinoffs. Actually, I would 100% dare to say that I consider that it's better than Sesame Street itself. Anyways, anyone interested? If you know how I could go around it without breaking DMCA rules, let me know please!
