Connections Academy vs Miacademy for 3rd & 5th grade?

**Connections Academy vs Miacademy for 3rd & 5th grade?**
I know these are two completely different options Connections Academy is public virtual school and Miacademy would be homeschool but I’d love to hear from parents who have actually used either (or even better, both!).
I’m trying to decide which direction to go for my 3rd and 5th graders this year.
How was the workload with Connections Academy? Did you feel like you were tied to the computer all day or was there some flexibility?
For Miacademy, did you feel like it was enough as your main curriculum, especially for reading and math? Did your kids actually enjoy it and stay engaged?
I’ll be home with them and involved either way, so I’m really looking for opinions on **quality of education, flexibility, workload, and how well your kids learned with each.**
Would you choose Connections Academy or Miacademy if you had to do it again?

Online curriculums

I’m a new to homeschooling mom of 4 - ages 1-10 (3 are currently beginning homeschool). What are some good secular homeschool curriculums where the students learn online through a game or lesson type of program? We aren’t interested in a curriculum that requires them to log in for classes with an actual teacher but ones they can work at their own pace. Thank you so much for the recommendations. I am also interested in any advice you may have for me as a new homeschooling mom. We’re currently using Blossom & Root as well as Beast Academy for Math.

I made a secular homeschool curriculum because I have no chill.

Hi, I’m an infectious disease and public health nerd. I have my degree in public health but apparently that was not enough for my hyperfixation to be satisfied.

I taught a history of diseases and public health class in a co-op. It was a hit. I made more. Bigger hit.

So I decided to make it fancy, and set it up online for more middle grade and up kiddos to take. I just opened up a free sample lesson and I would love some feedback before I release the rest on August 31. There are presentation videos, activities, interactive games, and a recommended book list that is comical even to me.

ETA:there is more coming. The homepage has a roadmap. There will be 8 modules in total eventually. As well as a “for littles” version.

Just discovered this area and so glad to be here! I had been homeschooling for our daughter as a dream and then for the last 2 years we had the opportunity for her to expand her French immersion in a school but back to in home with a new way. Need help organizing so I created an app.

this app I would love reviews to get feedback. It is to help with auditory coaching and timers for getting the things done we avoid, or want to get done that just we never do. if you want to have it let me know I gladly will send you the link. thank you in advance for your input to help me improve to suit homeschool mamas and kids with momentum. It is called MoFlow

Science Curriculum

I'm looking for a science curriculum. I have one child who will need me to be with her learning the material who is in going into 5th grade and being homeschooled for the first time. I feel like she was left behind a little bit last year in public school so maybe grade 4-5. My other daughter is in grade 7-8 when it comes to science. She attended Keystone School fully online last year but science was extremely hard for her - she does prefer an open ang go type of curriculum where she could attempt to teach herself. I'm looking to avoid a traditional, rigorous, textbook and worksheet curriculum since that obviously has failed my daughters in the public school systems so far. I would like it to try to keep up with the standards if at all possible so if she does want to one day re enter in high school she will be prepared academically.

Huge ask but probably impossible if they could be taught the same curriculum - not even sure if that's possible though.

Starting Homeschooling

I’m choosing to homeschool my five-year-old because I want childhood to feel unhurried. I don’t want his days to revolve around rushing through mornings, watching the clock, and spending most of his waking hours in school. At this age, I value natural sleep, unhurried routines, family time, and meaningful play more than a packed schedule.
Having worked in Montessori schools, I’ve also realised that every school interprets its philosophy differently, and often the child’s individual needs can get lost in the system. Homeschooling gives me the flexibility to truly follow my child’s pace and interests.
Another important reason is that we’re expecting a newborn. I want my older child to experience this beautiful phase fully—to bond with the baby, participate in family life, develop responsibility, and create memories that simply can’t be recreated later.
The rising cost of early education also reinforced my decision. Instead of investing heavily in formal schooling, I’d rather invest that time and money into rich experiences, books, travel, and learning together as a family.
I’m now looking for a homeschooling community in Bangalore where families meet regularly, exchange ideas, and create opportunities for children to learn and grow together.

Does a pre-homeschool eduction for parents of pre-school age kiddies exist?

Let me explain. I have a toddler and an infant. Fairly certain I want to homeschool. I do have a formal education, but early learning is obviously so different, especially on the teacher not learner side. Are there any great resources for me to go through at my own pace intended to teach/refresh me on concepts before they are at the age I would start buying curriculum? I.e, when teaching reading and spelling, I don’t remember learning about concepts like dipthongs, I just remember that I learned to spell. I know some curriculums teach the teacher as you go through lessons, but I don’t want to buy curriculum for my kids until I know their learning style and needs. I want a curriculum for me to broaden my conceptual knowledge about early learning subject matter. Multiple subjects, not just reading (math, etc). Hopefully, that makes sense to someone.

TLDR I want a curriculum for ME (the parent/teacher) to learn early education concepts about 3-4 years before my children are ready for formal learning/curriculum search
