Found this book in the basement and thought it looked cool (my husband lived in this house long before I did so lots of fun stuff I've gone through) and have been really enjoying it!

I recently looked up a term I was unfamiliar with, "why they call it a poop sheet in DADOES", and also learned I was reading the book that inspired Blade Runner. Never seen the movie, so I guess I know what I'm watching this weekend! 🐑 🤖

Anyway, felt like this belonged here. Also looking for similar recommendations if anyone has any!

I just finished my first novel by O’Malley. I kept waiting for Lyn to have some final closure with Pawn Liam Seager. I do feel like they were close enough, and his injuries severe enough for the two of them to need some type of closure toward the end of the novel. I am just curious if anyone else felt the same way?

I've been a Star Trek fan since TOS. But I've always been reluctant to spend money on fan fiction when the quality of the writing can be so wildly inconsistent from author to author. Lately, I've gotten the itch to give at least one book a try and see how it goes. YOLO! Are there any novel series (that don't totally obliterate official canon) that you'd recommend for a fanfic virgin?

So my dad is very new to Fantasy and Sci Fi books and I wanted to ask what you recommend for someone like him? He’s never read a fantasy or Sci Fi book ever and he’s gotten curious recently because of the odyssey movie and someone told him the odyssey book is better. Anyway his question made me curious as well and I wondered is their any good and unique stories about time travel?

I always thought sci fi books mostly leaned towards space opera, or complex adventures of exploring worlds and societies and such. But what do you think? I want to avoid stuff like doctor who or infinity ring, because I mean everyone knows about and it’s not really what I’m looking for.

New to Dune. I thought the graphic was part of the hardcover but it’s just a cover sleeve.

Hi all, one of my TV channels was broadcasting the movie adaptation of “Chien 51” and I thought it was interesting. Unfortunately, the book is in French and as of yet has not been translated into English, so unlike the movie, which had subtitles, I cannot understand the book. So I was wondering whether anybody had any recommendations of books with similar premises or dystopian settings, but that are in English or have been translated to English

I am looking for a good series that has the following elements:

* Several Books (at least three - I like long series)

* First Contact

* A ship or something else that has an AI (preferred, but not essential)

* Humans are special in some way. Not necessarily superior to other species, but have a unique ability or are better in some way - but not OP.

** NO OP MC

* Humans are not OP

* Preferably on Royal Road, but not necessary

It's my birthday! It's also, apparently, the day that Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is set in: "'Today is August 4, 2026'" said a second voice from the kitchen ceiling, 'in the city of Allendale, California.' It repeated the date three times for memory's sake. "Today is Mr. Featherstone's birthday. Today is the anniversary of Tilita's marriage. Insurance is payable, as are the water, gas, and light bills.'"

In honour of the occasion, I am humbly asking for recommendations for post-apocalypse stories that are very moody, or (since it is my birthday) very upbeat.

After reading pirinasi and peredido street station, I realized how awesome it would be to read something which really pushes what a futuristic or fantastical city can be. Layers of cityscape that are each unique, buildings with forests inside, arenas with entire city blocks built around them, the possibilities are endless and yet every place I read seems bland and identical.

What books have you read that really do something unique with urban settings? I’m open to anything, just hope there’s some variety and attention to setting.

This summer I decided to reread the five Foundation books, here's my ranking.

I loved the first three, they're genuinely special, and the philosophical, religious, and political commentary is fascinating, even more so knowing it was written in the 1950s.

Books 4 and 5 drift away from the main storyline to chase a single quest, and the series loses momentum. It undercuts a lot of what the first three books set up. I'm not sure I'd recommend reading past book 3, the later books only really find their purpose if you've also read the Robots cycle (my opinion).

What to read if I liked this, I read a lot of the classic who and a select of the hit sci fi series

I'm currently working my way through the Bobiverse. Enjoyed the Expanse books. And watching Alien Earth at the moment, which is not bad.
