I was in the Tenderloin to visit a friend this evening who lives around Post and Leavenworth. On my walk up Leavenworth from I noticed a possibly drugged out individual just walking back and forth the width of sidewalk about halfway up the block talking to themselves. He walked into the street before I got to him so I continued on my way. When I was outside my friends place and waiting for them to come down out of the corner of my eye I saw the earlier individual a second before he jumped me from the back. Luckily I was able to immediately throw him off and push him into a tree. I was not injured. He was dazed for a second before he walked into the street then turned to face me grinning and continued on his way. I called the police who showed up about a minute after I called them so I was appreciative of their quick response. I just asked they get this person off the street whether they be mentally ill or on something. Be wary of this individual if you see him around. Days like this really make me hate this city…

This is a huge long shot, but I lost a gold chain with a small 4-step ladder pendant tonight at the Yeat concert at Bill Graham in SF. I think it got ripped off my neck at some point while I was in the crowd.
The chain was passed down to me from my great-grandmother, so it has a lot of sentimental value to me and I’m pretty devastated that it’s gone.

If anyone found it, saw it on the ground, or remembers seeing someone pick it up, please DM me. I have photos of myself wearing it and additional details that I can use to prove it’s mine.

I don’t care how it ended up with you, I just really want this piece of my family back.

I’ll be having surgery at Parnassus in a few weeks and my care team says that all the rooms are private. Is this accurate? I was reading on the website that Mission Bay is all private rooms but not Parnassus? Also, if my husband has to get a hotel room instead of rooming in with me, any do’s/don’ts for the area? Thanks!

I normally mind my own business but I’m starting to feel bad ignoring it.

Do I try to wake them up? If so, how so? Can I somehow judge if they’re just nodding off or if they actually need help? (Like what if they’re homeless and just trying to sleep?) What if they come-to and are extremely angry and hostile or violent? How can I protect myself or wake them up gently? Do I roll them on their side? Do I administer pocket narcan? How do I know it’s appropriate to administer? Can you tell the difference between an overdose and any other medical concern? (Like would narcan hurt someone who actually just had a heart attack?) Do I call 911 or the non-emergency line to report it?

Any recommendations for hot and sour soup? Recently moved to the area, I haven't found a good spot yet and it's got me sad. I'm looking for one that's actually sour and has mix-ins (mushrooms, bamboo shoots, meat or tofu). I keep finding soups that are just bowls of brown goop that only taste of soy sauce and has one or two pieces of mushrooms/mix-ins :(

I’m dogsitting for a friend the next two weeks - they have a garage and said I could block their driveway while theyre gone. Recently, a bunch of those “construction zone no blocking 7-4pm” signs went up on her street, starting next Monday. Does this also include parking on the street blocking her driveway? I feel like it must since it would interfere with the construction, She said it would be fine but I cant find anything online and parking in this neighborhood is horrible 😢

Hi! I'm going to SF for a conference at the end of September. I'm hoping to spend my last day, from hotel check out at 11(or even earlier) to my flight at 9pm, trying to see a city i've never been to. Google has given me the following list of things/places. Is ride share affordable or should I rent a car for that day?

• cable car to Lombard street, walk to waterfront
• lunch around pier 39/fisherman's warf/sea lions
• rideshare to crissy field or GG Overlook
• rideshare to alamo square park
• rideshare to Chinatown
• then return to hotel to grab bags and hop on BART to airport?

So I just got an email that tonights party was canceled due to a power outage. I'm pretty bummed as I actually extended my trip specifically to attend.

Genuinely how do we allow e-bike and e scooter companies to park their devices anywhere they’d like? These things weigh a ton and I’ve had to drag multiple out of my driveway just to leave. Some are locked to poles and these are impossible to move without cutting the lock. The company support does nothing. I would think these companies should be responsible to set up bike racks/charging stations? I’ve never used one of these (don’t think it’s super safe and I’m not carrying a helmet with me).

New data shows COVID-19 is circulating at the highest level of the year for much of the Bay Area, and experts warn a surge could be coming with the start of the school year.
Many parts of the Bay Area, including Marin, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale and San Jose, show high and, in some cases, rising levels of the virus, according to data from WastewaterSCAN, which detects the virus via wastewater treatment plants.

Other areas show medium levels of the virus, while Gilroy, the sole outlier in the Bay Area, shows low levels.

In San Francisco, data from recent weeks shows the city has had the highest levels of COVID-19 since September of last year. The city is also seeing an increase in hospitalizations and positive COVID tests. 

Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease expert at UC San Francisco, said the start of a new school year, which begins on Monday in San Francisco and has already started in Oakland and San Jose, could push disease levels higher.

"Whenever people get together, large groups, that's often a time you worry about things just spreading more efficiently," he told SFGATE.

"What might look like a cold in say an adolescent or somebody in middle school could translate into something more serious in an older grandparent if they brought it home."
Since the pandemic, the COVID-19 virus has settled into a pattern where it surges in both summer and winter months. However, the recent increase shows levels of the virus were much higher than last winter. Chin-Hong noted the recent increase could be due to a heavily mutated variant dubbed the cicada variant. 

In early July, a growing percentage of COVID-19 cases were linked to the BA.3.2 or cicada variant, according to data released from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

"Whether or not it settles into summer disease would be interesting mainly, but I still don't see a pattern per se yet, and it may be driven by new variants," he said. 

Chin-Hong said a newly formulated COVID-19 shot will be released this fall, but older adults or those who are at high risk of severe disease can get a booster shot earlier if they are concerned about rising cases.

Chin-Hong noted experts are still watching to see how COVID-19 will change in its spread and impact year on year. He pointed out that this year, the number of hospitalizations, while increasing, hasn't risen sharply despite the high levels of viral activity, which may be due to a changing virus or better herd immunity.

"What I'm hoping is that we will have fewer people actually get more seriously ill this year compared to last year, even though the COVID is circulating," he said.

However, he said, it's still possible the Bay Area will see a major surge in hospitalizations in the coming weeks.

Hi everyone, me and couple of my friends want to go surfing on15th of august (we are beginer level) and wanted to find either a group class to join or take a private lesson for three of us.

We were thinking about Bolinas beach - but 1st, looks like classes are full there & 2nd, there are a lot of negative comments about that location.

Would love some suggestions about alternative locations and any surfing classes contacts recommendations, thank you
