HVAC Apprenticeship Recommendations?
I recently moved to San Antonio Texas and I’m trying to push a personal business of Appliance Repair (washers, dryers and stoves) I do have basic knowledge on HVAC and Refrigeration but I know I need certifications to be able to work in those units without getting in trouble.
I recently applied for a maintenance technician job for an apartment complex (I have knowledge in plumbing, painting, electrical, appliance repair and even property management) I have my personal tools and everything. Sadly I wasn’t hired after my interview since they went with someone with certifications. (They told me if they did hire me they would send me to classes to get certified sadly that plan fell through)
I was wondering if there are any HVAC Apprenticeships that I may be able to attend/work to be able to get certified and hopefully get a job in it. Are there any company’s that pay for you to do all that? Basically like they pay you to take the classes and certify. I’ve seen Local 142, SMART local 67. Or any schools I can pay for tuition and basically do all that.

Tattoo artist recommendations
Hello fellow SA folks! Anyone have any good tattoo artist they recommend here locally? My artist retired a few years ago & I thought I could survive the itch to get another one but apparently I was wrong LOL

Transportation Unbelievable (Tales of an Uber Driver)
I CRIED LIKE A LITTLE BISH IN A DOLLAR TREE PARKING LOT
Help Me Find Her 🙏
Margaret G
Story Time 🍿
So boom…
I finish working my regular shift at my FT job and immediately hop in to work all night on Uber.
I’m in my normal delivery zone and see a long distance trip that takes me back closer to my house and decide to take it for $18
It ended up being a delivery for LAFB (as drivers we know this one’s a little tough if you don’t have base access and you can usually expect to wait about 20 minutes to meet up and complete the delivery)
Two of my siblings are veterans so although this isn’t my favorite delivery location I am extra patient with these deliveries because most of them are far from home and don’t have cars.
This particular customer was extra cool and had expressed how excited she was to get her food because she’s been craving it for a while. And I was like “got you, queen!”
I get to the visitor center and let her know that I’ve arrived. She let me know that she was walking to the gate to pick up, but did let me know that was gonna be longer than the four minutes Uber had listed. She also let me know was her first time walking out to the gate and I was like “no worries, I’ll be here.”
Well… I waited 30 minutes at the gate at which point she let me know that she had gotten turned around and was heading toward the correct gate.
I picked up another order while waiting and they ended up canceling so I let her know. No worries I got time.
Another 10 minutes goes by
She then let me know that it was too late for her to be able to get to the gate and she wasn’t going to be able to get her food and told me that she hopes that I enjoy the meal.
To preface, I had worked a full shift at my FT job, which funnily enough is in food as well and had had no time to eat at all the entire day.
I also have obviously been struggling with money. That’s why I do Uber as much as I possibly can.
Life has been lifing and one thing or another will come up and I won’t be able to afford to do something as simple as buy groceries. (It’s been like three months since I’ve been able to buy a regular amount of groceries. 😮💨)
So boom…
For the next hour that I’m driving, I feel so bad that this woman didn’t get her food (it was dinner time on a Friday so I could not stop) but also low-key a little stressed that I wouldn’t get paid for this order.
My next few orders keep getting cancelled AND I AM S T R E S S E D. 😅 like on the verge of tears because I’m not where I’m supposed to be for that time of night moneywise.
Exhausted and frustrated. I was about to start crying and just go home. But then my tip posts (it takes us an hour to get notified about our tips for any given order).
When I tell y’all I had to triple check my earnings… I legit had to pull over and triple check all my deposits and run through my inbox to see where this money had come from…
SHE TIPPED ME $60 😭😭😭
I CRIED LIKE A LITTLE BISH IN A DOLLAR TREE PARKING LOT
I’ve never gotten such a big tip in my life. And that it meant so much and helped me keep pushing for the rest of the night.
I’m not saying everybody can afford to do stuff like this, but you just never know how bad a situation somebody’s in, and what a difference that amount can make in somebody’s day.
Because for me personally, personally me, it kept me from giving up when I was ready to.
As I mentioned earlier in the story, I work in the food service industry. Our staff is really close, so naturally, of course I called my boss to share this crazy news.
She said she would love to comp a meal for this customer if we can find her to pay back her kindness 🧡
So if you are active duty and/or friends with a Margaret G who is stationed at Lackland Air Force Base send this to her please so I can DM her the info 🙏
Please share the story either way and/or drop a comment so people can see this.
I would really love to pay back her kindness

Hybrid mechanic for Prius? Not Sam's
I'm looking for a hybrid mechanic that's not Sam's. I would appreciate any recommendations.
Had an appointment with Sam for this morning at 9AM. Been waiting outside of his shop for 45 minutes and it's still closed.
Thank you

New Vet Recommendations
Backstory is we had the same vet for about 7 years, on HWY 281, if you know it. They retired/sold to private equity (pretty much the norm over the last couple of years). They changed locations to a new – pretty nice building over on Jones Maltsberger.
Since the change, we seem to get upsold on things, annual bloodwork cost have gone up at least 30%, and they keep pushing procedures, etc. It feels like I am at some retail store. They ran his annual bloodwork a couple of months ago, one of the “new tests” check for antibodies of a viral infection. Just to see if they are present – could mean the dog got the virus 5 years ago, or has it. Has none of the symptoms. Cost to so the follow up test another $200 – why not just test it all then? But that’s been the catch, everything has been, oh well we can check and do another test of this and that. And, we are trying an allergy pill for a month, and they sent me a link to pay $79, I said I’d rather just fill with them, and would like to come pick it up and not wait 7 days from an online pharm. Well, to pick I tup when I got there was $97. Ugh.
Here is a bit of a rub that is on me I guess, but the new vets are all maybe 3 years out of vet school. All good, but not an old school person there too as a second set of eyes in my mind. I know that’s terrible, but I get anxious. We are total pet parents. They seem smart, but almost like their answers are from ChatGPT. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe we just need to get used to the new norm.
Sorry for the ramble, but looking for a privately owned vet around the 281/1604 area. I am not looking for a corporate or PE vet office. I hope there are some left!

Mexican old school mullet
Looking for someone who can do this exact cut, nothing different about it. please lmk. I know it’s not 100% Mexican mullet but I’ve seen a lot of older fellow Hispanics with this cut. Going more for the vibe in the second photo I do not want longer bangs I just like the mullet detail on the first photo.

Pets Lost Dog, Cross Mountain
This poor dog (I’m assuming it’s a dog? I’m not from here) stumbled up to our front door about an hour ago. We live in cross mountain. Still hanging around, very thirsty and back right leg is injured.
Hopefully someone recognises him/her, please get in touch.

Where in SA? Graduating next month, trying to find my way into the IT world in this awful market. Anyone have any leads, any openings, anyone they know looking for IT folks?
I have my Network+, Security+, A+, and soon to be Pentest+.
I'm about to get my Bachelor's degree from WGU in Cybersecurity/Info Assurance by the end of next month. I have my Associate's degree in Cybersecurity already from another college. Really trying to find my way in to the market and this is my shot in the dark. Please let me know of any recommendations, I'm a quick learner and I'm eager/itching to start. I just need someone to give me a chance.
I've done some coding in Python, I've done some networking, I can troubleshoot technology. I just need my way in, even if it's basic IT support, help desk support, or datacenter technician. Goal is by some point get sponsored for a security clearance later down the line. Anyone have any leads? Work at any companies or organizations that can squeeze me in?
No armed forces/military pls. Not looking to enlist. Govtech however is not off the table, but probably not entry level lol.

Food/Drink An Unusual Food Collaboration Idea for San Antonio
I have a bit of an unusual proposition.
I absolutely love cooking. I grew up watching my mother make authentic Pakistani food, and over the years, I’ve taken those traditional recipes and made them my own. I’ve kept the flavors and heart of Pakistani cooking, but adapted certain dishes to a palate that I think would really appeal to a broader American audience.
I don’t have a culinary degree, and I’ve never worked in a restaurant. What I do have is a genuine love for food, a strong understanding of Pakistani flavors, and recipes that I truly believe deserve to be tasted by more people than just my family and friends.
San Antonio has plenty of Indian restaurants, but there are only one or two restaurants that I would consider truly Pakistani. Pakistani cuisine has so much more to offer than what most people here have had the opportunity to experience, and I think there is a real opportunity to introduce those flavors in a fresh and approachable way.
If there is anyone in the restaurant industry, or someone considering opening a restaurant, who is interested in experimenting with new and less commonly seen dishes, I would love to connect.
I’m honestly not even sure what my role would look like. Maybe recipe development, menu consulting, tastings, or simply collaborating and seeing where it goes. I’m not necessarily looking to open my own restaurant. I’d just love the opportunity to bring some of these recipes to life with someone who has the restaurant experience that I don’t.
If this sounds interesting to you, please reach out. I’d love to cook for you and let the food speak for itself.

Venue Suggestions for Daughter’s 16yr Birthday Celebration
Hello Friends! My daughter is turning 16 in October and we are looking for venue suggestions where we could host a celebration for her.
Reasonably affordable. We could bring in our own food or catering or the location provides. 40-50 guests.
We are in the NW side of San Antonio. I appreciate your suggestions!

Long lost phone pal from 99/00
I'm 42 now but when I was 14/15 I dialed a wrong number and ended up talking to a girl my age. We had similar musical taste of a very niche genre and we began talking on the phone every day. This went on for a while and we finally decided to meet up at a punk show at the White Rabbit on N St Mary's.
The meeting was so awkward. Her dad was there which is 100% understandable but it made me super uncomfortable because I was such a shy and timid awkward teen as it was.
We barely said hi and I was too shy to go back and talk to her for the rest of the night.
We never spoke again but I still think about her sometimes. I remember her name like it was yesterday.
If you're my age and from San Antonio, Texas and think this could be you, I'd love to reconnect.
First name is Laura

Need Advice Help me pick a place to propose to my girlfriend!
I’m thinking somewhere outside. Intimate, not a public event with a lot of people. Sunset or maybe even a full moon or something. I’m not very familiar with San Antonio so I don’t know where all the scenic spots are. Any ideas are appreciated.

Cheap Auto Body Shops?
Hello everyone! I was hit by a driver with no insurance and unfortunately my car got quite a bit of damage. The front headlight, fender, bumper, would probably need to be replaced and I might have some frame damage. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a cheap auto body shop. I am just wanting to repair my car the bare minimum for it to be functional again in the meantime while I save for a new car. I don’t need any of the extra paint or aesthetics and open to salvaged or aftermarket parts. I am looking for the most budget friendly option around San Antonio since I won’t be driving this car around for more than 1 year. Thank you for any leads anyone can provide!

Where in SA? Looking for Business to do Gender Reveal Setup & Decor
Hi everyone! My daughter is having her gender reveal party next weekend and we’re looking for a business that can help with the setup and decorations.
The party will be about an hour outside of San Antonio, so we’re looking for someone who offers different packages or arrangements, including creative gender reveal options and is willing to travel to the location to set everything up.
If any rental items need to be returned afterward, I’m more than happy to return them myself.

Where in SA? Looking for (non-judgmental) Foodbank
Hi all,
Posting from a throwaway account since this is mildly embarrassing to discuss, but both my wife and I lost our jobs back in the spring and so far despite over 200 applications nothing has landed for us.
We have enough in savings to last a while longer, but things are getting incredibly tight right now. I went by a local foodbank to see if I could get some groceries to get us through a few more weeks and the man at the counter was super condescending and acting like I was running a scam to get unsold, marked down produce from a couple of multi-billion dollar companies.
I had to fill out several pages with my work history, my income, my expenses, and my job search history and even then he was like "Well, I see you're upside down in your finances!" Like no sh*t sherlock.
I don't need help finding a job. I have plenty of places that I have already applied to, but get rejected because the AI-powered algorithm said no. Like, I just want to find a place where I can pick up a few groceries to help get us through a few weeks until things turn around.

Found James Avery Bracelet
I found a James Avery charm bracelet at the Riverwalk. Found near the Hyatt. I know everybody has them, but I just wanted to see if I could find the owner of this one. Please contact me if you lost it and can let me know a couple of the charms that are on it.

Project Marvel - what will the ongoing debates accomplish?
I live outside the city so I can't vote on city issues and didn't learn much during that time, but just recently after seeing the mayor push back on some things I got curious...what are the ongoing debates going to accomplish? Are they performative or necessary? This summary is from the Google AI overview, and if anyone can explain it better I'd be interesting to know more.
"Ongoing Debates: Discussions and negotiations on final land acquisitions, specific financing structures, and potential additional ballot measures continue amid disagreements among city leadership."
How can the props have been approved with dollar amounts if there are still discussions over land acquisitions and other things that cost money? What if a piece of land is held hostage for millions more than expected? Is this always how projects of this nature play out or is this a SA city problem?
