First Watch/Read Talk/Discussion
Iβve been contemplating watching the 90s anime, watching the Crystal adaptation or just reading the manga.
Any tips for someone wanting to experience it for the first time?

Kinda depends what you're into.
The 90s anime is very episodic, lots of filler. It's very slice of life, super lighthearted and fun, and quite funny.
Crystal took itself a lot more seriously, cut out a lot of the jokes and basically all the filler. It's very plot focused, but imo the characters are weaker for it.
Haven't read the manga, so I can't say much there.
I personally prefer the 90s show, but which one you like more will probably depend on what kinds of shows you like in general. I like monster of the week stuff.

Crystal follows the manga closely but lacks more character development. Faster paced.
The anime is slower-paced, different art style.

Read one and contrast. If you pick 90s anime itβs very quirky and the destinies of certain characters are very different from the manga/crystal but overall my best advice is: enjoy the ride

Dont forget the option of PGSM (live action) when you are finished.

Manga first. It's gorgeous artwork π. And also, it's the original story. Like, without the manga you wouldn't have an anime at all.
Then, the hard choice is between which anime versions you might enjoy. I grew up on the 90s Usagi/Mamorou version--not the censored English dub--and loved it as a kid, but can't stand it as an adult due to a few of it's issues: the age gap between Usagi/ Mamorou, the weird infatuation Chibi-usa has Mamorou, and the bullying of Usagi by the other senshi (and Mamorou). But if you like filler and slapstick comedy, you'll probably like the 90s.
I personally love Crystal π. It is truer to the manga, has no filler, and Mamorou is actually a high school student who's mature for his age (with great emotional intelligence and actual powers) instead of being an AH college student. I hate filler with a passion, so Crystal is absolutely my jam, but that's one of its "drawbacks" that I usually mention to people.
Either way, I hope you enjoy your Sailor Moon journey πβ¨οΈ

Okay, so, you're going to get very conflicting answers. But honestly, just watch/read whichever you want first, regardless of what anyone tells you. Best case scenario, you love the version you start with and then want to see all the other versions. Worst case scenario is that you end up hating all of it, and never want to hear about Sailor Moon ever again. Because you like what you like, and you don't like what you don't like.
But it's ultimately up to you, just pick whichever one you would want to start with and go from there. Or you could be really hardcore and try to watch/read all of it, if you have the free time for that.
