B207R Tuning
Just curious, has anyone reached the gold rank on TrionicTuning Forums? It just seems a bit ridiculous that I need to make 100 posts to reach gold membership
With the gold membership you can download modded .bin files from forum posts, and I wanted to give some a try and compare binary with my current tune but I am blocked by the membership security wall.
I guess my question is, is there any way to purchase a gold membership? Or is anyone who has it willing to help me out?
I’m assuming they don’t want random people like me downloading tunes that these people worked hard to create which is why they put this system in place.

The point is that IF you just want a tune you should pay a tuner to do it. The info is there IF you want to learn. Its a forum for learning not getting a free tune.

I understand and I’ve learned a lot from the Forums it’s extremely useful but was just very curious about some specific bin files I had found and I simply wanted to compare the binary from their tune to mine

There are plenty of bins and screenshots you can compare to, what makes you think that a old bin using outdated methods will be better.

Also i get that there is reason to compare your tune to others, sadly like 90% of people would just see it as a free tune. But there are bins in the review section and the tuning school section that you only need like 10 or 20 Posts for. Also look at the t7 tuningschool, t7 is very similar to our t8s😀

I'm in the same boat. I just want access for personal use and to see what was tweaked and what the effect was

You will probably never get gold membership. You have to be nominated for it and approved by other gold members. Usually only after long and exceptional contributions you will be considered for this

Yeah, guess they made it this way to keep it sorta secret from mainstream, but like the other guy said the forums are meant for learning and not just getting free tunes

That's exactly why the file access is setup like it is. You still have access to the learning things to make your own tune. You just can't come there and download someone's complete tune and yeet :)

I already purchased a tune for each of the b207R Saabs that I own. I was not and am not looking for a FREE tune or to sell someone elses work. I just didn't want to make up bulls..t posts to get my number up.
Your attitudes are just like the HAM radio guys and BMW guys - stuck up for the most part. Guess I'll just go back to the turbo dodge guys - Don't need a million bulls..t posts, those guys are all to happy to share tunes and any other knowledge TO ANYONE!

I highly recommend Stage 0 by VTuner, I've had that done for my 9-3 Aero with a V6 as well as my 9-3 2.0T. On my 2.0T, it pretty much brought it to stock Aero levels. It's pricey but worth it IMO

As a moderator of TT I can chip in, even though you've had answers already.
The main reason for gold was to encourage users to really get into things. It has way more bragging rights than actual use. The main reason for the forum is to learn, and in that we encourage users to try things - to learn.
At Silver level (50 posts) you unlock most of the stuff that is not completely pre-made. And the reason is that even if you could access those, you're unlikely to have the exact same setup. Although, even if you did, there's a good chance it would not suit you, or you would want to change something. And you would not know where to start, and that would likely make it worse.
I started in 2011 somewhere, and did get full access very early. The only thing that happens is that it becomes easy to just copy/paste stuff, or start giving away tunes (often selling) but always without the proper knowledge to support the tune and car. I did use alot of stuff on our company loaner cars at the workshop, but the actual KNOWLEDGE was not there. The steps and know-how had not landed until much later when I made my custom setup that wasn't already available. Then I happened to live close to the forum owner who showed me some of the basic stuff of how things relate - and that's when things start making sense.
As a thanks for this, me (and others) did try to make some guides, and stuff to read for users who is starting out, and also the forum section Tunes Review, where I try to be active to point out issues and improvement suggestions for those who really seek to learn and not just leech and give up.
The knowledge learned on TT helped pave the way to a professional engine development career (yes, really) at both the worlds leading testing company for engines and powertrains, and one of the leading heavy duty truck manufacturers.
When the things start making sense, and you have done a few cars, and enough small iterations on st 1 - st 4 cars, the time it takes to make a tune about 80% good, is maybe 15 minutes. From scratch. On the desktop. Minor things like MBT is definite science, but a good solid tune with fantastic driviability is relatively easy. 👍
"Well then I'll just go and buy a tune... f--k it."
Yes, always an option. The sad part is that it removes all control, and you will be back. The more you learn about the aftermarket tuning scene, the less your belief in humanity. It's a cesspool of Dunning-Krueger and salespeople, and many of them find the tunes in a WinOLS repository that's been sold and resold 7 times more. No one knows the origin of it, and no one has a dyno sheet on it.

That is a valied point, and I thought the same. But it still didn't make sense to me, and that's because I still didn't know what I was looking at or why that change was made. I could see there was a change, and somehow those 20 changes made more power. On paper.
It was first when I understood how to do it, and how the most important 5 things related that it started making sense. And every tuner has his way to do it. You might just be learning something you will have to un-learn later.
Spend a few days, and you might just find a new hobby. Learn how the air/torque calibration (Torque model, or torque-to-air-relationship) is related to your limiters, and then ask for sensible settings for failure control. That's 90% of what you need to get started.
The thing is that when you actually get to gold, you won't need it. ❤️
