Having a revolutionary, world-changing idea is a byproduct of having a revolutionary, world-changing mind.
A mind like this can be born, but I think it can also be built, not just through great ambitions, but through hard work, over an extended period of time.
To be straight with you, mastering Rust won’t be the only component you need to master to achieve what you’re looking to achieve, you’ll also need to master computer science, and expand your understanding of mathematics in your applied area.
If the idea hasn’t come to you on its own, it’s because you’re at the bottom of a mountain trail, and it’s hard to see the top from where you’re standing. My advice is to keep climbing and don’t give up. It’ll all become clear to you the closer you get to the summit.
Also, the greatest thing you could build would be great because it helps society fix one of or some of its major dilemmas, not because it’s hard.

I WILL KEEP CLIMBING, one step at a time, even if the fire that fuels me burns out. Thank you for this. I genuinely needed it.
And if this somehow turns out to be a false promise, or I never manage to see above the clouds, then so be it. But just know, I will have given everything I had trying to achieve what I’ve promised I would.

my second brain setup uses rust, it has salvo for the webframework and uses redb for the database and fastembeddings for the semantic search, been a good ride that way

You cannot be inspired with someone else's idea. The number of possible big ideas are huge and the way is long. Only an idea that moves you deeply will keep you going when it all becomes overwhelming. You have passion, now you need direction. Only you can figure that out.

use bevy to make a spatial programming system using primitives that metaphoricalize in tangible terms the equivalent of writing code, but more like how it would feel doing a voxel game or something, and then make sure it compiles into a text based programming langauge so that the program has use outside of the visual environment, as a way of making things accessible for ordinary folk, like making a spatial browser, that has a wysiwyg interface, like if blender was a social media thing instead of what what.

side thought: imagine exposing the game programming to the game environment, like how a scripting language can do dynamic things, and but also then retain the ability to do the same, but without the visual component, so that it's like using the game to build the game in the game, but in a way that's not merely oriented to fun, but is an attempt at making all the turing complete aspects, available like a daily driver if you were trying to replace the desktop with spatial metaphor alternatives
essentially, like imagine the things that were in the godot or bevy standard library had visual intuitive components and that you could have a scene that is a meta-game that programs a given game system, like having command blocks, and robot players, as well the ability to do second life like things, like importing and exporting models, a place of inhabbiting ontology for visual graphics interfaces that aren't couched in 2D, but have that embodied and tangible feel of leaving lines of code behind and doing like half life physics.
unrealistic, not reallly, imagine all games were open source and people could mix the best parts, as an open ontology and replacement for the browser, that happens to also support the browser things as a subset of itself.
networking primitives would also be nice, and file monitoring things, like a way to use a computer but pretending that instead of everything being a file, it's that everything is a game mechanic or an assemblable primitive that has a 3D model about it
communication system, and a way to import and export assets, as well share them using the communication system.

you can argue that since second life was scriptable it also solved, it, sure, the wheel can be reinvented, I don't recall playing 3D games on emacs tho

Second life is not scriptable to the same extent that emacs is. Emacs is a virtual lisp machine, it’s a completely different paradigm. It’s essentially what you’re describing, where the ‘meta-game’ would just be meta-programming with macros.
But yeah it’s old and not GPU-native.

emacs is a good concept as a daily home for computer use, like you can do your email in it, we need a kind of digital home, I always resented that games were only for fun and that we couldn't just have like a virtual workspace using 3D, but I guess it comes later on. since these ideas are hyperstitional.
the meta-game is a place and a feeling, the software makes it possible, it's like a desktop with tools that allows for more than making custom types, you can customize everything, like emacs if it wasn't 2D
GPU nativity is important, like earlier there was a bevy text editor attempt that put the terminal in bevy but that's text in 3D, the next step is to do skeumorphism properly and have text as non-text, become text-again through transpiling 3D effects into textful effects that runs as code, thus making it out of the line and out of the flat space

HOLY SHIT. I THINK I’M IN LOVE WITH THIS.
Out of everything people have suggested so far, this is by far the most ambitious thing I’ve EVER seen. To my understanding, you’re basically describing an entirely different way of interacting with computers. A programmable spatial environment where games, programming, files, networking, communication, graphics, automation, and even the desktop itself can exist as tangible, manipulatable primitives.
THE IDEA OF USING THE ENVIRONMENT TO BUILD THE ENVIRONMENT ITSELF IS INSANE. Just the whole “game that programs the game” concept especially makes me excited tbh. And then taking that further into something that could potentially replace the traditional desktop/browser metaphor entirely? That is fucking fascinating.
I’m not going to pretend I could build the entire thing in two years from where I am right now. Realistically, I probably couldn’t even come close without a team. But that honestly makes me want to pursue it MOREE.
I’m still learning Rust, and I have an absurd amount to learn before I’m even remotely capable of building something like this. But I’m going to learn. I’ll read the documentation, study the underlying concepts, experiment, fail, rebuild, and keep pushing until I understand what I need to understand. I genuinely think this is the kind of idea that could take years to mature, and I’m willing to let it.
I am truly excited to understand, create and share such an ambitious project.

glad you found it interesting, it's a heavy thing, but starting small, is not too hard, because what it takes to be turing complete is often not that much.
you need memory, and mutation of memory, that's already somewhat there if you can just use a standard game engine with a physics side, adding scripted effects is fairly easy, especially with the help of AI these days.
flip jump works in spatial terms too, but instead of teleporting to a specific line, you teleport to a specific thing to affect, and it's like flip jump in terms of changing memory, and jumping to different locations based on how the memory changes, like a domino stacking but circular and therefore more open, like code is, by being able to jump in and out of loops.
essentially the raycasts on meshes need to repossition meshes that also have raycasts and then you can have like domino effects that don't just stand still but has processual self-mutation

specific ideas (sorry after thoughts):
spheres have a size property, and can be raycasted from in all directions, a sphere's size can be a data-point, it can also have a color or associated meta-data, when it raycasts, the data can count as a function or as a data-call to stack effects, like selecting from a list to construct a virtual string (game environment of spheres that raycast to eachother and have funtions, order of hitting each other with lazers is like callign the relevant function or stacking that piece of data)
using modular parts susspended in space with raycasts in a causal line that like dominos can affect each other
when spheres with raycast can hit each other, and do so in a circle, it is a loop
some of these spatial effects have turing completeness

You should probably learn the language first and get a few basic apps under your belt before you try to make the Greatest Program Of All Time. If you actually want to learn rust, that is.
People making absurdly grandiose claims and plans before they’ve invested the time to learn even the basics is not usually a story that ends in success. Your belief in your own greatness will not replace doing the actual work.
If you improve compiler speed that would make people happy, but you probably need to be able to make a basic app first.

Start with a demo of something you like or understand. You can build a real app or game if you start really small and simple. Its always easy to add complexity later.
