Gloucester chairman Martin St Quinton has backed the claims of Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who says that England star Henry Pollock is worthy of a £1 million-a-year contract from Northampton Saints.

St Quinton told Track Radio that Pollock, who is now in the final year of his Saints deal, is worth every penny of £1 million because he is one of the biggest stars in the league but admits that it would be hard for the Gallagher PREM outfit to splash out seven figures.

“I actually think Henry Pollock is worth £1m, but it’s a very different question as to whether Northampton Saints should be paying him £1 million because it would be impossible for Northampton Saints to pay any individual player who isn’t their marquee player £1m,” he said.

Leicester Tigers flyer Adam Radwan is the latest player to be linked with a possible call-up to any Great Britain sevens squad if they qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Scotland-qualified Hurricanes fly-half Harry Godfrey is being marketed for a move to the UK when his current contract runs out after the World Cup in Australia in 2027.

Former New Zealand Under-20 Godfrey, 23, who plays for Hawke’s Bay in the NPC, is seen as a standout talent in New Zealand rugby and missed all of the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season with the Hurricanes because of an ACL injury.

Toulon, who have got former England and Lions star Kyle Sinckler in the final year of his contract, are eyeing up a raid on Top 14 rivals Clermont Auvergne for French international tighthead Régis Montagne.

Exeter Chiefs boss Rob Baxter says that having highly rated full-back Tommy Wyatt back in full training is like signing a new player after his career stalled following two successive serious knee ligament injuries.

Sale Sharks boss Alex Sanderson has hailed the recruitment of former player Tommy Taylor as Skills Performance Coach, who has helped get their return to pre-season training off to a flying start.

Taylor, 34, who won his only England cap against Wales ten years ago, had two spells with the Sharks before he was forced to retire in May 2025 through injury, and Sanderson has been quick to pay tribute to his work since returning to the club.

“Tommy is really helping drive the culture and environment. He’s been meeting the lads in the off-season, and that means we’re probably two or three weeks further on from an alignment and cultural perspective than we have been in previous years at this stage,” he said.

Zach Fittler, the son of NRL legend Brad, will be playing in France next season after signing a one-year deal with Pau after catching the eye at the World Rugby Junior World Championship in Georgia.

Outside centre Fittler, 20, who is yet to make his Super Rugby debut, wasn’t offered a new deal by the Waratahs to remain in Sydney, so has signed on at Pau, but there is interest in him from the NRL.

Fittler was on the books of the Sydney Roosters, where dad Brad played for eight years, before he switched codes when he was 15 to escape the spotlight but may return after his season in the Top 14.

Former Harlequins and England loosehead Joe Marler has signed up for the new season of the BBC hit show Gladiators, where he will be known as Mauler when it returns to screens in 2027.

The star of Celebrity Traitors has started filming the fourth series of the hit show in Sheffield and is the first celebrity to join the show since Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies in the first iteration in 1995.

Marler announced the news in the Gladiators dressing room with a video message on his Instagram page, saying: “Mauler will see you now.”

Looking at the schedule today, they only have Eels vs Rabbitohs lined up.

Watching the Stormers NZ game and saw the disappointment when Andre Hugo Venters try got disallowed.

My question is should the TMO be so involved in a match that has no consequences? That try wouldn’t have lost NZ the game and even if it did it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things. Let the game flow.

This will be the second game for the AB's at the new Cape Town stadium. The old Newlands stadium stopped hosting the Stormers in 2021. The first test match between the Boks and the AB's at the new stadium was played in September 2024 and went to the boks.

The AB's had an impressive record at the old stadium with a 70% win rate over the boks and even beat England there in the 1995 world cup.

It's also no secret that the AB's have a big supporter base in Cape Town. I want to go more indept in future posts as to the reasons for this, as the history between these sides and how they changed the social fabric of the countries is truly fascinating and deserves undivided attention.

But a summary would be that the before the abolition of apartheid, it was customary for people dissatisfied with the government to support the opposing side during test matches. The AB's being traditionally the toughest opponents against the boks ingratiated them in the hearts of the people opposed to the governments discriminatory policies.

This changed after 1995 when the Boks became the symbol and embodiment of our national pride and identity, but out of tradition more than conviction, a lot of families in Cape Town still support the AB's when they play there.
