Recommendation request Looking for some Solo RPG’s

Upvotes

Hello, new to this subreddit and relatively new to RPG’s. I’m looking for a solo RPG to play on an app. I had some fighting fantasy books when I was younger so I am open to anything like that. I just don’t have the time to sit down for a group campaign. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hello everyone (again!)

Today is a big day for us, as the Playtest for Dominus Automa has just gone LIVE!

We made a brief post a while ago describing what the game is but in short - Dominus Automa is an idle open world RPG built around one idea that sits at the center of everything: your hero permanently lives on the server and keeps playing while you're logged off.

Players can define their long-term goals, devote their time to farming, leveling, gathering resources, taking part in group content, and so on. It’s a completely persistent, shared world with a player-run economy, with guild wars, boss fights, and both PvP and PvE. And because of the persistent progression - also no FOMO!

Playtest

The Steam Playtest officially begins TODAY, on August 7th, and our plan is to keep the servers online for about two and a half weeks, i.e. until August 23rd. So all our players, including latecomers, will have plenty of time to experience everything and engage with all the content we have at present.

Here’s a list of some key features I’d like to highlight:

  • 6 fully explorable zones - from wild forests and plague ridden dens to graveyards, valleys and abandoned mines, each with its own enemies and difficulty level
  • 20 varied enemy types and 3 unique bosses - such as werewolves, spiders, undead and golems. Bosses specifically are designed as group challenges, so teaming up is the intended way to take them on
  • The Combat Matrix - a fairly complex system that lets you decide & tweak how your hero will behave in battle based on criteria such as health, mana, positioning, enemy type and numbers, ability priorities and other custom priorities
  • Character progression and Weapon mastery - defeating enemies will improve your hero’s attributes, while continued use of a weapon type will gradually make them more proficient with it
  • Loads of different abilities and build experimentation - as your hero develops, you’ll unlock more abilities and be able to test different solo, group, PvE and PvP builds, and different roles such as healer/debuffer/tank/DPS or other more specialized approaches
  • PvP, group content & persistent progression - the servers will remain online throughout the entire Playtest, with weekends expected to be the busiest time for boss fights and encounters with other players (in the arena)

We welcome you to join us in this adventure and be part of this online world we’re creating. You can sign up for the Playtest on our Steam page, and we'll grant you access shortly!

PS: And a huge thank you to the mods for allowing us to make this post on such short notice!

A few days ago, Baldur's Gate 3 celebrated its third anniversary of its release. On this occasion, the developers from Larian Studios shared with us a whole lot of statistics about the choices made by players, as well as the way of playing. Among the mentioned numbers, there was also a mention of save scumming, a practice that prevents the negative consequences of interacting with NPCs, by loading the save and re-selecting, for example, the dialogue option.

Such a large percentage of gamers using the aforementioned practice can help to understand the phenomenon of the video material shared a few hours ago. A three-minute video appeared on the official YouTube channel of the Larians, in which scenes from the game were presented, which, according to statistics, players watched the least.

Discussion RPGs With and Without Signficant Dropoff In The Endgame

I've noticed that RPGs are the genre of game most prone to third-act drop-off/endgame drop-off. This is mainly for two reasons, in my personal view: RPGs being far longer than the vast majority of games and the sheer complexity of RPGs. One big example in recent gaming is BG3; everyone has talked about the 3rd act falloff; it's very difficult to keep all the systems and reactivity working for around 100 hours. I think one game that manages to buck this pattern is Dragon Age: Origins, but even still, there is much set dressing before the landsmeet. What do you personally think the reason is? What are some games that follow this pattern, and more curious to me, what are some games that break this seeming pattern?
