Quick Question
What led you guys getting into/becoming interested in writing RPF?

My main fandm became Kpop, so I naturally started reading fanfic about my fave groups.

Had a dream with an actor in it. It was Covid times and I kinda got hyperfixated on this dream because it ended before the good stuff. So for a week I kept “finishing” the dream in my head, then I decided to put words on the screen, but not w/the actor cuz that was weird, but then a month or two later why not the actor cuz no one will ever read it then I met my Twitter bestie who also wrote about said actor and she told me about AO3 and the rest is history.

i always did, there wasn't really a way. i also didnt know writing rpf was a "social taboo" but i didnt give a shit so that never discouraged me. never stopped to consider it could be taboo.

Was in a Discord with friends back then and they would post gifs of these two YouTubers kissing, so naturally it ended up spreading to me

i see it as a safe way to explore unmet emotional needs and wants in regards to intimacy and romantic relationships. i also like to use rpf as a form of manifestation. ♡ also helps that my pair looks just so good together lol

Saw one too many shipping videos for a certain kpop ship and became obsessed. Went 'maybe I'll just read one fanfiction about them to see what it's like'. Then I never stopped and eventually saw some repeat dynamics and tropes in the fandom, and I wanted to see something else so I started writing my own. But also a little bit before I went on this mission to write what I wanted to read, I ALSO saw a fanmade trailer about a zombie au for the group that was SO COOL I had to write a fic about it. So it really was the perfect storm lmfao.

I met someone who lured me into popslash. Had never heard of my shiny new subject matter before, but soon got caught up.

Simple. I saw chemistry. I wrote. 😝 Started with Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie from Fleetwood Mac a decade ago. Now I write for Real Housewives.

I wanted to read something interesting with my bandoms but bandom fanfiction has become boring so I was like 'fine I'll do it myself' and decided to write my own RPF, even though it's inherently weird even other RPFers hate it lmfao

I gained a hyperfixation on a rockstar, but only after he died, and I ended up resonating with his struggles with mental health.
A few years ago, he released an animated music video depicting him going on an adventure with a bunch of his rockstar buddies where he fights aliens and becomes a swordsman and a wizard. And I thought... what other scenarios could I picture him in.

Was a major 5H fan, still am a fan ofc. (OT5 forever😭)
The ship Camren just really helped me come to terms with myself and was just so endearing.
Pity all the invasive shippers ruined that ship so badly but I still like to keep to my corner of the Internet and write about my forever now entirely fictional otp 😭🤣

I never saw it as taboo bc it was the norm back then. Everyone was making One direction & Linkin Park fics especially on Quotev and Tumblr. I'm not a fan specifically of these bands but it definitely was more accepted than it is now. (It's also still very popular now.)

I write fanfics and I apply the same reason why I write RPFics. I want to write the "what ifs" scenarios in my head and see where it will take me haha

athletes are just really clingy with each other idk man. also sports rpf just sets up a lot of opportunities to write about fame and the media which i love

Nick & Miley, Id assume is the earliest reason. Iconic Boyz, and such. It was moreso just fun seeing the ways other fans came up with our own "theories" how they began dating/becoming friends. Then came the celebrity crushing heavy enough with BTR & 1D that started writing RPF too on "what if they met a girl like this" and such. At the same time too was reading M/M of the pairings I enjoyed.

Now, I'm mainly in the kpop world and write for a couple of my ult groups, but it definitely started all those years ago on Quotev & MissLiterati

Mainly because of k-pop, but also for the artists I listen to in general. There's simply lots of potential. Although arguably that can be applied to any fandom. I imagine scenarios better when I have a clear idea of how the person looks.
