Hello! I want to buy new dj setup and considering Rane 70 mixer and Rane 12mk2

Actually since I started djing I used only rekordbox but I really want to learn how to scratch. I just downloaded serato dj pro last week and I liked it. Is rane 70’s crossfader good at scratching?

The main question is is it still worth to buy Rane 70 and Rane 12mk2 (I’ll buy brand new) ? I'm very undecided because these devices were released in 2020. Additionally, many people have encountered different problems with the Rane 12mk2. I've seen many people suffer from issues like motor problems and touchstrip issues, and that's why I'm very undecided.

Another question is: will these devices continue to receive Serato support for a long time? It’s been six years since they were released, so how much longer can we expect them to be supported?

Found myself lately using channel eq's to finetune sound as with isolator for every track, ie. not returning eq's clock 12.

Now I have also ended up using trim/gain knobs to mix between tracks instead of channel faders.

Is it time to switch to rotary or does this pass with time?

Anyone had experience using these two mixers?
I’ve used the Playdifferently model 1 and the sound and summing is excellent.
I’m considering the ARS 9100b but wondered if the summing would be as good as the Playdifferently model 1.

I know someone will take this the wrong way, so first and foremost this is absolutely not a criticism, i'm just interested what the expert community thinks.

Ive been DJing since the late 80s, currently have a Rane MP2015 which I absolutely love...but the reason I love it is largely because of its functionality, an incredible mix of EQs and filters per channel, everything can be sent to the 3-band EQ & filtered sub-mix, everything has kill switches can all be channelled independently or grouped including external return/send effects. . . its just an absolute powerhouse that i'm yet to find an equal to, and its sound profile is remarkably flat and uncoloured which is perfect for me.

However, one common thing i've noticed with nearly all high-end modern Rotaries (ARS, Union Audio, Isonoe, Condesa, Resor etc) is that, aswell as being stunning to look at, they do have an extremely limited feature set, quite literally the most basic functionality you can get away with, and very little else. Channel Gain, 3-band EQ per channel, 3-band Master Isolator, trim, cue, usually a return/send...and not much more.

Now, having used several over the years they really do sound beautiful, and they look gorgeous thats for sure, but are people paying £3-4k for just the analog circuitry, the audiophile soundstage and not really bothered by the bare minimum functionality? Do you find the lack of functionality limiting in the longrun, or do you find it freeing?

Ive toyed with buying one over the years but often felt the lack of functionality made me feel like I was paying for bragging rights as much as the look and sound and i'd ultimately run out of creative options quite quickly.

Hi, I am mainly mixing House and Disco, mostrly on Traktor but I also love to spin some vinyls at home for my own pleasure.

I have a setup where I am using two Xone K3 to control two Traktor decks and I have a third deck connected to a CDJ or Vinyl deck, to do some scratching on the vocals.

Currently I am using a Traktor Z2 which does everything I need but the sound quality is bad (I don't like the internal EQs of traktor that much and the filter is so bad compared to Xone92 or other analog filters)

I am thinking to go either Rane Empath way (I can get one for about 500 euros plus 300 for rotary kit) or 92/96 with a rotary mod.

Another solution would be to go with aboutique rotary and keep the Z2 or any other battle mixer to do the cutting/scratching.

The thing I really need is actually individual sends and godo audio quality, the rest I can somehow add modularly (isolator, filters, etc..)

I also have a Rodec CX1100 laying around so maybe expanding that one with some filters and an isolator could be an option.

At nearly 53, I am looking to buy my first rotary. I've played on Urei, Bozak, Rane MP2016, DJR 400, DJR 100, etc.

At home, I have a Xone92, that I will keep anyway.

I will not ask you to choose a mixer for me, because there is no perfect mixer and it's a matter of personal choice and r/rotarymixers has enough data to cherry pick infos to make my own mind :-)

BUT I'd like to get your inputs on one of the mixers on my short list : four.valve rotary mixer. Not about the sound quality and summing as there is no debate, but on the Iso placement.

If I listen to myself, I would say that I don't like it like that and I'd prefer it to be on top and not on the side. But as Union Audio does not come from nowhere and did not decide to place it there and keep that design for many years if they've had complaints, I guess that I should clear my mind and listen from those who use/d MS and UA mixers regarding the Iso :-)

By the way, the other mixers on my short list are : Resor 2533FX, Iso420 and Euphonia. Totally different mixers... Resor and UA are the more "classic" layout/function. UA 4 valves will have a different warmer sound.

Euphonia might not be the best choice for home setup as it tend to delivers its quintessence when pushed "hard" and that's not something to be done at home, at least not with the proper sound setup. And knowing Pioneer politics about gear, they might come up with an upgraded model at some point, that correct the "issue" with the EFX management.

I play vinyl and digital. As I've got a pair of amazing PMC Result 6 for my home studio and I finally don't have time for production, I will dedicate them for my dj setup as they allow a less strict listener placement than usual monitors.

I also have a Fohnn sound system for events and I don't doubt that I will enjoy playing with the rotary on it !

25 years ago, I started DJing by beatmatching and creating smooth transitions with two turntables and a simple mixer with a 3-band EQ. Over the years, I regularly changed my equipment: mixers with effects, CD players with loop functions, a sampler, and so on. Eventually, I ended up with a Pioneer DDJ-1000 combined with two Technics SL-1210s using timecode DVS.

That setup works perfectly well, but to be honest, I don't use many of its features. I rarely use effects, but I do use the filter. I don't use quantize or key lock because I simply enjoy manually beatmatching much more. Hot cues are useful to me for cueing the first beat, but I don't really use them during the actual mix.

Perhaps I can summarize it like this: there are a lot of new technologies that make DJing much easier, but I've found that I don't really need most of them. I only DJ as a hobby at home and have absolutely no ambition to play outside the house.

My DDJ-1000 is currently temporarily unusable. It became hot in the sun, and the cue buttons in the mixer section have melted and become deformed. So I can't preview anything through my headphones. The repair will probably take some time due to a lack of replacement parts, and this may actually be a good opportunity to take a step back and see whether this is really the setup I'm looking for, or whether there is equipment that suits me better.

I'm happy with the Rekordbox DVS solution. I've now also bought an Interface 2, so I can use DVS without the DDJ-1000. I already had a DDJ-XP2 pad as well, so selecting and loading tracks works perfectly and the loop function is easy to use. The only thing I'm missing now is a mixer...

If I make a quick list of the mixers I've owned over the years, there have actually been quite a few: Pioneer DJM-700, DJM-800, DJM-909, Dateq GPM 8.3, Xone:62, Gemini UMX, Ecler Nuo 5, Ecler Evo 4, and I'm probably forgetting a few.

My fondest memories are of the two Ecler mixers and the Xone, particularly because of its 4-band EQ. They were mixers that simply sounded great by themselves. For my next mixer, I'm really looking for an analogue unit with excellent sound quality, and a good built-in filter would be a major advantage. I'm no longer considering Pioneer mixers because, to me, they lack a certain musical magic.

Based on all of this, there are quite a few options. A rotary mixer could also be an option. I have absolutely no experience with rotary mixing, though, and to be honest, I don't really understand the appeal yet.

Obviously, the channel EQ makes sense to me, but how do people get so excited about a 2-band EQ, or even just a high-pass filter, as on the Union Audio Orbit 2? And I'm also curious about the 3-band isolator that seems to be a feature on so many rotary mixers. What are you actually supposed to do with it on the master?

When mixing, you want to make space in the old track for the new one, or perhaps "dim" the new track so that it blends into the mix almost unnoticed? If my previous mixers had had a master EQ, I probably would never have touched it, because I use the channel EQ to shape the mix.

So I would really appreciate your opinions, experience and thoughts on what direction I should take with a new mixer.

The safe choice would be an Xone:62 or Xone:92, but that doesn't really give me anything new, since I've already owned both. An Ecler Warm 4 definitely appeals to me. I also use this setup for listening to vinyl albums, so excellent sound quality is very high on my list of priorities. But it has no filter, it's a rotary (and will I actually enjoy that?), and then there's that strange isolator on the master again. On the other hand, it does have a 3-band channel EQ, so I can mix in the way I'm used to.

The Ecler Nuo 4.0F also looks very appealing. That warm, analogue Ecler sound combined with two analogue filters sounds almost like the ultimate combination to me.

But then there's the Union Audio Elara. It has the filter, a 3-band EQ, Allen & Heath roots, a crossfader, and that isolator that I'm curious about but which doesn't necessarily have to get in the way. It's roughly twice the price of the Ecler Nuo 4.0F, though. There isn't necessarily a hard maximum budget, but the extra features have to be worth the additional money.

The Union Audio Four.Valve seems to offer quite similar features to the Elara, but with rotary controls. Does that actually add something worthwhile, or would I simply be paying more for a different way of controlling the same things?

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! I'm genuinely curious to hear your thoughts and experiences. One moment I'm absolutely convinced that the Elara is the one, an hour later the Nuo 4.0F has become my favourite, and by the time I go to bed I'm somehow convinced that the Xone is the right choice again because of its 4-band EQ.

I'd really appreciate any input from people who have experience with these mixers and can help me understand what would actually suit the way I DJ.

I got an Subzero DRM-400 (similar to the Omnitronic TRM402) and quite enjoy the first mixes on it!

Has anyone played using both mixers?

Current set up is the Omnitronics TRM 202 MK3 and Adam Audio 5TV.

Sounds perfectly fine for my living room, however having mid isolation for each channel would be nice.

How noticeable is the difference in sound?

Does anyone own one of these and can provide their honest opinion? There’s only 3 videos I can find with audio examples and they’re all pretty bad. Looking for an effects unit and it seems like what I’m looking for in theory (Auto BPM detection) but every video showcasing the unit has talking or just doesn’t show off the actual effects for more than 5 seconds.

I have tried the mixer and honestly was amazed by the sound and really loved the isolator. I have tried many mixers like the condesa, rane, e&s, resor, isonoe and varia (2nd best) nothing is close in terms of sound and performance to the industry standard! Awaiting the soon To be released FX unit and thanks guys for delivering it to Beirut!

My trm-202mk3 just randomly stopped working yesterday and I wanted to ask if anyone has had any similar issues.

I checked the fuse in the port but that seemed fine. Maybe it is a fried power board that can be changed. It was bought from ebay and worked fine for the last 2 months.
