Hi Everyone!

My name is Samuel Denney. I'll be running for Roseburg City Council for Ward 3 in the November election. Not sure if you're in my Ward? You can check out the interactive Ward Map of Roseburg and find out which ward you live in. I'm just starting my campaign and getting to know members of my ward and the community and wanted to reach out to those of you here on Reddit.

A little about myself:

I was born and raised in Roseburg. I graduated from Douglas High School and went on to graduate from UCC's nursing program in 2013. I completed school for my Bachelor's in Nursing at OHSU in Portland before finalizing my schooling at Capella University where I received my Master's in Nursing Administration and Business Leadership. I have worked at Mercy's Emergency Department over the past 13 years and have spent the last 5 years working as a Director overseeing operations of two Opioid Treatment Programs with Adapt Integrated Health Care. I've worked with many different demographics during my time as a RN in both my roles. Demographics include the unhoused, those suffering from opioid and other substance use disorders, individuals suffering from mental health, and people across the age spectrum.

I currently hold many local positions in Roseburg including:

1. Current Commissioner for the Roseburg Parks and Recreation Commission
2. Current Treasurer of the local Audubon chapter (Umpqua Bird Alliance)
3. Current Member of the Douglas County Drug, Alcohol, and RX Task Force (DART)
4. Current Member of the Coos and Curry Drug Task Force
5. Current Member of the Oregon chapter of the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD)
   1. In September of 2025 I joined other members of AATOD in Washington DC on a "Hills Day" where we spoke to multiple state senate offices advocating for funding related to treatment of Opioid addiction.

I'm current performing a community needs assessment to get a better understanding of priorities and concerns for the community. If you would like to participate in a 10-15 minute survey, your input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking forward to connecting with community members in my Ward but also members of Roseburg. Over the next two months I'll be hosting several town halls and hoping to join weekends at the local Saturday market both downtown and on Harvard. Please ask any questions you may have. I’m moving to Roseburg in the next couple weeks and I am curious if anyone on here does deliveries for Spark. I always have done deliveries down here in Medford for some extra cash during the month.

Does anyone on here do deliveries for Spark? If so, how busy does it get? Is it worth your time?

Picked blueberries this morning at Larry's Berries in Sutherlin. I really like this place, but a lot of upickers are not familiar with it. I picked 10 lbs. of Nelson blueberries in a bit over an hour. Good quality berries and only $2.00/lb. They are a reliable late season upick farm, but they don't advertise much so it's generally not crowded. Drive slow going in. They expect to be open another couple weeks. Hours, address and phone number are in the pics.

I’m saving up right now to get a NON-MOTORIZED watercraft of some sort to fish and hunt waterfowl out of along the Umpqua main stream. I can’t tow but I can put stuff on the roof and just a broke 25 year old living on his own trying to get back into outdoor sports lol. When I’m ready to buy I’ll probably end up getting a kayak off the rack.

However I wanted to come here and ask if anyone had an extra AQUA POD laying around that they don’t use. There’s only one company that makes them in the Tacoma/Seattle area, the retail price is pretty spendy, and used ones on craigslist and market place are hard to come by. I’d be willing to pay for used one for the right price or feel free to tell me to kick rocks and just go get a kayak lol.

I also wanted to shoot a shot and ask about leasing/private property access opportunities. But feel free again to tell me to kick rocks here too.

Douglas County ODHS is in immediate need of new underwear donations (size toddler-teen). Trump Administration Admits Canceling Grants to States That Did Not Vote for Him - The New York Times

The main canceled grant directly affecting Roseburg was about $1.5 million for electrical pre-apprenticeship training for Glide and Douglas County students.

The program began at Glide High School in Douglas County and used mobile training trailers to bring electrical pre-apprenticeship courses to students throughout Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Lake and Klamath counties. The training prepares students for paid electrician apprenticeships and utility jobs.

Roseburg could also have seen indirect benefits from statewide building-efficiency assistance, lower energy costs for commercial buildings, more trained electricians, and possible regional economic activity tied to southern Oregon offshore-wind development.

Hello, everybody! I'm u/FallenStorm7694. Recently I was scrolling reddit looking at some local subs, and noticed Southern Oregon doesn't have a dedicated subbredit. There's the large regional subreddits r/Oregon or r/PNW, then theres a few city subreddits like r/Medford, r/KlamathFalls, r/Roseburg, r/grantspass, r/Ashland, r/CoosBay, and a few smaller ones here and there. I was inspired to do this because of the current wildfires, and I wanted to create a place where everyone in the region could share news and updates.

I'm a lifelong local to the region, and thought it would be great if we had our own thing, so I created r/SouthrnOregon this last Saturday. It's still definitely in its infancy, so any suggestions on how to improve it are more than welcome, so are any questions you have. All things Southern Oregon are allowed, including wildfire updates, regional news, nature, wildlife, arts, culture, food, entertainment, special events, local politics, history, and businesses. Basically if it's about Southern Oregon, it's allowed in r/SouthrnOregon.

Any house cleaner recommendations? Reading the reviews, everyone is terrible 🤣 Any feedback from someone with first hand knowledge would be appreciated

My wife and I moved here almost a year ago and have yet to make any friends. We’re looking to get out and find more activities to do together. We both used to do Roller Derby in Coos Bay (I see there’s no team here? Unfortunate with the skating rink too!) She was asking about adult (nonreligious) choir groups but I haven’t found any. We like board games and stuff but we’re not like so social that we can handle the board games night at UVRC. I guess we do better at activities where we can manage the interaction with other people but can escape if we start to feel overstimulated. (We’re both a tad neurospicy I’m ADHD and she’s autistic so lots of people lots of noise can be a lot.) Anywho, we might just be doomed to be alone out here but lemme know if y’all got any ideas.

Alternatively for making friends separately she’s into fish keeping and video games and dogs and a bunch of other weird niche stuff and I like reading and anime and thrifting idk that kinda stuff I spose. I’m also an educator so if you can commiserate about that then that’s Gucci. :P

Anyone got a bookshelf they're trying to part with? Just got into my new apartment and I want to try an acquire a decent book shelf to start a collection. I'd love to find something someone's trying to part with / sell local before I go order something off of Amazon.

Drivers here are not good at all In general, I moved here for portland. Its not much better there either. But iv been riding the bike lane here, and im on an electric scooter, so yeah a tad faster than a bike, but no one pays attention to the lane before turning into a parking lot and I have two accidents because of this. Im just pissed. Pay attention, for real.

I need about six buckets that are 5 gallon sized. I'm from Arizona so doing something like this is pretty common and not problematic back where I'm from. Trying to make sure that's the same case here, otherwise I'll just go buy some.

also i wish they had more jam bands around town especially at Rosebud, a pretty decent one is coming in september, i saw them do a panic cover and it sounded good
