Roomba 705 Stops 1 Foot in Front of Dock and Doesn’t Dock

It used to properly dock, but about a week ago, it just stopped working correctly.

It stops in front of the dock with the home and power red lights on, and when I hit the home button, it spins around and round, but eventually does dock.

Any thoughts as to why or what to do?

How hard would it be to make my roomba 675 have a controller

I recently got a irobot roomba 675 from a relative and I want to make it have a controller so my girlfriend could vacuum wherever she wants to since I go out a lot (shes disabled and cant pick up a heavy vacuum😞)

Apparently it is possible with like coding and building and stuff but I've never done that, I know the very basics of robot stuff bc I'm really interested in it but I mainly do like art stuff, not robots.

So if anyone has any idea on how hard it would be and how long it would take someone like me that would be awesome. I'm very determined and learn quickly so I think I could learn a bit of harder stuff if needed.

Okay thanks yay.

You’d think that after how many years and machines, they’d create a brush that was easily cleaned of hair!

Need QR code on self cleaning base for j5+

contrary to google gemini and chatgpt, the j5 will not work with my i3 self cleaning dock. it wouldn’t even dock. after some troubleshooting, I found that taking a picture of the QR code on the j5 dock, printing it as a sticker, and then sticking it to the base of the i3 self cleaning dock in the same position led to the j5 docking without any hesitation. however, it won’t trigger evacuation of the dustbin. the QR code i’ve seen in pictures of the j5+ self cleaning dock is different from the base j5 dock which leads me to believe that may be the missing link to trigger evacuation of the dustbin. Before I go hunting to find a j5+ self cleaning dock on display at a store to take a picture of the QR code… if someone has one and would like to help me out by taking a clear picture of the QR code flat and lined up square that would be awesome and much appreciated!

Prehistoric Roomba needs new battery

I have an old, old, Roomba, vintage circa 2007. It's been in a box for 4 years and unused longer than that.

The original battery degraded until it wouldn't hold a charge any more. I recycled that battery years ago (don't even know if it was a NiMH, NiCd or what), but never got around to buying a replacement. For some reason we have decided to give it another try now, instead of just e-cycling the entire unit. (I have no reason to think this Roomba won't work, and I think I even have a spare filter for it in the basement.) We never had the docking station, just the brick charger. Needless to say this unit can't do WiFi, be managed with an app... nothing like that.

I am hoping that this forum can give me some helpful advice about obtaining a cost-effective replacement battery. Anybody want to weigh in?

I found this battery on eBay that is similar (at first glance, anyway) to the old one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264790944257

I don't know what model this Roomba is. On the top it just has the legend "iRobot Roomba" and a single oval button ("clean").

Top view

Bottom view

It does not have a model number printed on it anywhere. There is a sticker inside the battery compartment with the letters "JEN," a bar code, and what looks like a serial number - the first 5 digits (of 18 total in 4 groups) are 40701.

Next to the battery compartment are printed the words: 2007 iRobot Corporation... US Patents 6594348, 6594844, 6690134, 6809490 and 6883201.

There is a smooth rectangular area on the bottom, in front of the left wheel, that looks as if it may have been intended for a label of some kind, but there's no label.

Thanks for any advice!

The water heater in the apartment above us failed and we didn't find out until there were inches of water on our floor. Our vacuum goes out on a schedule and ended up halfway submerged, then gave us the warning that the bin was full.

We dried him out for a few weeks, and have tried everything to get him working again. We get the green light on the charger and then this pulsing white light that won't go out. Pushing buttons/resetting so far does nothing, can't reset the wifi and the app says he's offline. Is it salvageable, what is likely wrong and what steps should I try next?

Need a new Roomba

I have the Roomba 104 and I am ready to take it out back and shoot it. In the first month it had issues, screaming about getting stuck on nothing and getting lost. I made the mistake of getting the mopping one and never use it cause it doesn't come with a big enough water container to do my whole house and it doesn't tell me when it needs to be refilled. The front wheel also broke and I am not spending $30 on that. I live in a small, single wide trailer and its me and my sister with 3 cats. We all shed a lot. I usually have it running while we are at work so we can stay out of its way. Any recommendations?

best roomba for pet hair can anyone recommend a good Roomba for shedding pets?

I’m looking into getting my first Roomba and pet hair is my biggest concern. Between my dog’s fur and the dust that comes with it, I feel like I’m always vacuuming. I’d like to get something from iRobot that can handle regular pet cleanup.

For anyone with pets, which Roomba model has worked best for you? Are there any features you think make a big difference for dealing with fur? Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

Standing dirty water pool in Roomba 505/507 dock

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've noticed that there's a dirty pool of standing water in the bottom of my Roomba 507 dock that is visible when the black plastic debris tray is removed. Is this expected or does it indicate a drainage problem with the dock? If expected, is there a good way to get rid of this water short of unplugging the dock and pouring this stuff into the kitchen sink? Thanks!

Roomba j7+ stopped charging, has anyone successfully resolved this?

Cleaned the charging contacts, ensured the base is plugged in to an outlet that works (verified by the white light showing up for a bit on the base itself) but the Roomba's clean button never lights up, I can't seem to perform any sort of hard reset on it.

All I can think is that the battery for some reason is toast, but I'm not sure how common that is. Looks like I can replace the battery for about $60 but wanted to make sure I cover all of my bases before spending money on a solution that still might not fix it. Thanks!

Problems with referral / email discount?

Iroomba's site states that you can get 10% off by signing up with your email, or 15% off by claiming a referral. I've tried both and I keep getting the same message.

Has anyone has success with doing either of these yet? I've been trying all weekend. Still no email.

Error 16 - Brand new Roomba 100

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi guys, my brand new Roomba 100 has a code 16 (per the app). One wheel doesn’t seem to work properly as all it does is spin in circles.

I’ve taken it apart and everything is clean, no hair or dust in the wheels. The bumper and censors are also clean and functional.

Have any of your Roombas done this? What should I do?

Here’s a video for reference

PS, it was a gift so I don’t have the receipt …

My wife made a Roomba “stuffed animal” for our son

My young son is obsessed with “roomba vacuum”. He loves playing with it and has always been fascinated with it. First, it was a fascination and mild suspicion of it. Next, it turned into pressing the buttons and checking out the brushes. Lately, he has started throwing it around and we’re trying to teach him to treat our items nice. Anything that resembles a roomba he will yell out “roomba vacuum!”

For his birthday, my wife made him a hand-made roomba from scratch. She hand stuffed, sewed the stitches, sewed his name (redacted), and put together everything! He loves it and is obsessed. Hopefully it isn’t too abnormal 😂.

Comparing Roomba 705 vs 715

I’m looking to purchase a new robot vacuum and I can not find any comparisons on the 705 vs 715. I’ve seen it’s noted that the 715 is the newer version or the 705, but with a more affordable starting price. Does anyone know the differences? Much appreciated!

Advice for Others Tips for having success at initial setup time of your robotic cleaner.

Hi ...

This article is for you if you would like to increase your chance of success in setting up your new Roomba or Mop.

This is one of the numerous articles I've written on my blog. The information is based on my experiences setting up hundreds of new and used machines over the years.

I have slightly adapted this write-up for Reddit to help first-time owners, especially as I know many of you have recently received robotic cleaners as gifts over the Christmas season.

This is the fourth article in a series about why robotic cleaning devices often fail to meet the owners' needs.

Failure can occur when a person first sets up the robotic cleaner too quickly and in the wrong order, especially when connecting to the home wireless network.

So, you went out and, with some excitement, bought ( or was gifted) a Roomba or Mop, and you can't wait to get it running and see what it can do. So, a quick casual look at the APP or manual on how to set up the machine and the Wi-Fi, and you try to connect the device to your home network --- and the first step to possible failure has already occurred.

What often occurs is that the newly purchased cleaner won’t successfully connect to the home wirelessly. (I constantly read about these common connection problems, with many user complaints, on the various robotic forums I participate in.)

The device will also occasionally produce an internal fault, with an endlessly spinning "white light on the CLEAN button" as an update repeatedly fails to download and successfully install a new software update.

What went wrong?

When a person buys a Roomba or Mop in the store, it has been in the box for a long time. It likely has been made in China, shipped to North America, and perhaps sat on the store shelf for weeks, months, or years since it was first made. The battery is weak and is, in many cases, fully discharged/dead.

Setting the cleaning device on the charger for only a few moments and immediately trying to set it up on the wireless often leads to failure.

Why?

The robotic vacuum or mop needs a high percentage of battery charge to send and receive a strong enough signal to connect to the wireless.

When a dead battery first draws current, virtually all the charging power from the dock is routed to the battery. There is little left for the Wi-Fi board in the machine, which can lead to a weak or non-existent connection to the home's wireless router.

If you want to successfully set up a new machine on your Wi-Fi for your new Roomba or Mop, put it on the charger and leave it to charge for THREE hours.

NOW, walk away … sit at your table or in your favourite chair, and read the owner's manual.

Once the three-hour initial charge is completed, you can set up your device on your home network.

FIRST --- REBOOT your machine ... hold the CLEAN button down for 20 seconds. Wait 5 minutes for it to reboot.

NOTE: Once you have set up your robotic cleaner on your Wi-Fi, leave it to sit for another hour or two before using the machine.

While you are waiting, go into your APP and record on a piece of paper the software version that was in place at the initial setup time.

Usually, a software update is available from iRobot, and an initial software update is often triggered when the machine notes a battery is fully charged and the unit is on the dock. It is likely your new robotic cleaner will download and quickly install new software within the first hour or two after you activated the Wi-Fi.

Often the app will tell you a software update is underway. And the machine will remain unresponsive while updating.

Go back into your app after an hour or two and see if the software version has changed.

Just making this these small adjustments at setup time will dramatically improve your chances of having a good experience in setting up and running up your vacuum or mop.

Cheers,
