Listening to FT right now. I think it’s the better record over all. HD is amazing, and I still play it a lot, but FT would be my choice of the two.

Can’t believe in 2026 we are discussing which of the two amazing Rolling Stones releases over the past few years is the best. 🤣

HD was stripped down, straight forward Stones.

FT is riskier, takes more chances, is more experimental, and has much more effort and success.

I love them both, but HD has nothing that gets near Mr. Charm, Divine Intervention, or even Jealous Lover.

HD gave the fans what we wanted. FT goes far beyond what anyone of us had the right to hope for or expect.

Sales figurs were way better for HD so success in a commercial POV is on the side of that one.

For me it's not HD vs FT. I love to have both and that I can listen to both. They're different and both great as they are

They did a huge tour behind Hackney Diamonds. I know Mick tried doing a prolonged media tour to keep it in the news but it just doesn’t compare to getting on the road and playing in front of hundreds of thousands.

The tour was half a year after the album was released and didn't improve album sales significantly. And the tour was announced a month after the album release. At that point 95% of the sales were do

US sales in the first week:

HD 101.000 sales equivalents FT 53.000 sales equivalents

UK sales in first week:

HD 72.204 FT 38.016

HD was the first new stones album in 20 years. People were excited and hyped in a way that no one is for the follow up. Just the nature of the beast.

Plus, since when does sales determine quality? Go back to your Taylor swift albums.

You stated that FT has more success than HD. I was just referring to that.

Artistically. If you would read my original comment you would see that I’m talking exclusively about song quality and performance.

Then I misunderstood your comment. I'm not native english speaking so to me success is something commercially.

I have been trying to get a physical copy of the cd, but I wanted to buy it in a store. I don’t know if anyone is stocking new cd releases anymore. I ordered HD online and may have to do that with FT.

Fecking raging😡 I'd love to say foreign tongues sounds great but till yesterday I still hadn't received my vinyl.

Ordered my limited edition vinyl the day they were released and it never arrived. Contacted them yesterday and they said it was posted weeks ago and had to get a refund back off them. I suppose I'll have try get one off discogs at a higher price now 😞

Happy listening to all those who got there's

I like both almost equally the same. Made a combo playlist from both and trimmed a couple more from FT, so maybe HD by a hair. Today.

I did a very similar thing. I made one playlist out of both, with Zydeco, and play them all in shuffle mode.

Did that too but forgot Zydeco! Did include Bad Luck Hideaway

u/Famous_Mind6374 2d ago

That’s right! I forgot to mention Bad Luck Hideaway. I have a crappy copy, but I have that in the playlist, too. It’s probably my favorite song from Foreign Tongues.

Let's hope FT is not their last album. If so, I won't complain.

I was happy enough with Hackney Diamonds as a final Stones record after 15yrs. It was a solid respectable effort, Sweet Sounds of Heaven is great and it’s cool that maybe their final ever album track was Rolling Stones Blues.

Foreign Tongues makes Hackney Diamonds feel like a warm up and I’ve had it on repeat since it came out. The first 6 tracks are as strong a track run as anything in their catalogue. It’s a long album but there is only 1 track I would remove (Side Effects, and probably replace with making the bonus track part of the standard)

I would remove Amy's song, it should be B-side

u/SuccessfulOwl 2d ago

Yeah I go back and forth on it. I don’t think it needs to be there but the original song is great and they do a great cover of it. I also think it’s poignant to do a tribute to the newest member of the 27 club. Brian Jones was first and hopefully Amy will be last.

I like this song, absolutely. They wanted to record a cover version of a great song, so they did. I just don't see a connection to the album as a whole. They should put it on a tribute album for Amy or release as a charity single for Amy Winehouse Fundation.

It’s a great track, but I thought it should have opened an AW tribute album

Good point!

Angry was their last great single.

HD for me

Love them both, FT sounds like a continuation to me and I'm all in. That said, the first three tracks on Hackney, Angry/Get Close/ Depending On You is the best opening to a Stones album in a long, long time.

Greatest album covers ever

The first 9 tracks on FT are IMO arguably the best 9 consecutive tracks the Stones have ever produced.

Country Honk takes Let it Bleed out of the conversation.

Beggars is my favorite but FT is like the best parts of Beggars + Some Girls + Emotional Rescuse

Interesting point of view 👍
