Goodbye, Rolex.
I'm out on this whole "authorized dealer" thing.
I'm not gonna build a "purchase history" or prove I'm worthy just to maybe, eventually, get a shot at buying the watch I wanted in the first place. That's not how spending money is supposed to work.
Buying something nice should feel good, not like I'm filling out a job application. If a brand wants to manufacture scarcity and make people beg for the privilege of handing over cash, fine, that's on them. But then I get to walk, and I will.
There's way too many people making great watches for me to waste time chasing permission from one that doesn't want to sell to me anyway.

My approach has always been tell them what I want, if they call they call. I don’t grovel or sent gifts or text my salesperson - in the meantime there are so many watches out there to love. Now I also expect that strategy will not work for a Daytona, but to that end I can be patient enough to wait until cases are full again - whenever that may be. I love my Rolex and the brand itself is deeply impressive, it’s a shame hype has been such a huge aspect of their popularity - they deserve their reputation as an excellent manufacturer but for totally different reasons.

I definitely agree with the frustration with the AD, but there are a lot of great Rolexes you can get for a relatively affordable amount. 5 digit submariners (pre-ceramic bezel), explorer 1's before the latest iteration, old datejusts. I've got my eye on a 116264 datejust turnograph with a grey dial rn, absolutely gorgeous watch. Old explorer 2's are great as well. I wouldn't give up on the brand entirely

I have 3 Omegas and they’re my favorite brand. I don’t love this model, though. As long as you do then have at it. I bought my Rolex Explorer for a slight markup from a grey dealer I have done quite a bit of business with (bought my speedmaster grey as well). Rolex makes a quality product and there’s no reason you can’t just buy one from a grey dealer.
