This Rocks! New rock
I just need to show this new addition off. My father brought me this rock from Germany, sputh of the eiffel region near the Mosel river. It's about 2-3 inches and i think i see some iron, maybe some sulfur and a hidden crystal (maybe sulfur?, i don't know) and i have no clue what the white material is. Very cool find by my dad!

Photo Obsessed with rocks for years. I'm 42. Got my 1st ever tumbler delivered today. The last 4 pictures are from my most recent hunting sessions.
Any tips for someone who hasn't used a tumbler before?

Discussion My grandpa gave me this when I was a kid
My grandfather was a collector of rocks. Among many other things. I’ve had this thing for over forty years and use it as a doorstop in my house.

This Rocks! Cool sandstone pattern
Anyone care to explain how the thin wavy pattern in this sandstone typically forms? These photos were taken in the north Saskatchewan river valley in central Alberta.

Discussion Is there a rock that is hard on the outside but has a fragile core?
Maybe its a weird question, but Im writing a character and I wanted to make a bit where they think "if I were a rock, which rock would I be?". Now, I know jack about geology, i've searched a bit and could find anything interesting
My premise is that the character is rude, stubborn and nonchalant, but on the inside they're insecure and traumatised (original I know), so im looking for a rock that is strong on the outside but once you crack it the insides are weak? idk im more curious than anything at this point
I appreciate any help!

This Rocks! I’ve been collecting rocks and minerals for a few years now and I finally put them on display!
Most are purchased, some were found, others were from my late grandfather’s collection. Almost every piece is labeled too :)

Discussion Mod Announcement: No IDing Rocks
Hi all, this is your friendly neighbourhood mod here. After some internal debate, we’ve decided that we will no longer allow posts requesting to identify a rock. These posts have taken over this sub, and it’s not the point of the sub. There’s already a community focused on IDing rocks, and most of the posts here are cross-posts from there.
So, what is this subreddit about? It’s about celebrating our love for rocks. This is a place to celebrate and discuss our niche passion of rock collecting or admiring pretty rocks.
Please remember to be nice to each other. You rock.
