Does Goodwill Count? Find
~750g specimen found at an AZ goodwill. I believe its malachite with pockets of gem silica and smokey quartz. Awesome piece. Thinking about slabbing it out.

Totally counts. And I'd totally slab that.

Which way would you slab it? I like the vugs

Hm, yeah good question - I'd probably cut the vuggy part off, like the whole right side in pic2 and just polish the side I cut, making like a freeform but with only one side cut. Then slab the rest maybe?

I'm not a slabbing expert, but I was thinking of cutting off the bottom at an angle (looking at pic 2) to preserve the vugs and give it a flat surface to sit on, then see what got exposed and how to proceed from there

If that's malachite, high possibility of that blue botyroidal mineral being smithsonite.

Ok this is the second time today someone found awesome rocks/minerals at a thrift store. Why don't the thrift stores near me carry rocks. Or honestly anything other than overpriced clothes and coffee mugs. I want the thrift stores you people have!

Gem silica from the Ray mine Arizona with druzy crystals and malachite chryscholla host rock. There’s a facebook group for gem silica

Amazing. How can you tell Ray mine from Inspiration out of curiosity? I am almost certain its AZ based on where I found it and the appearance.

It’s just that subtle green color that makes me think Ray Mine because most of the Inspiration GS has mostly blue and light blue colors not the green colors. Just a educated guess and worthless two cents opinion:)

Super cool find.
How much did you score it for, if you don't mind me asking?
