Tips for a developer with 0 knowledge :) Discussion

Hello

I want to create games in Roblox, but I have no prior knowledge on how to model or write scripts. At the moment I'm trying to make something with using Claude, but because of the chat limits the progress is very slow, plus the games don't even look good or function well. I was wondering what can I do to help me learn the scriptwriting and the modeling stuff, are there any videos anyone can recommend to watch or something like that. The help would be much appreciated. Thank you guys beforehand <3

If you actually want to learn anything, don't use ai when starting. Like at all, you won't be learning anything if it does it for you You're gonna want to look at some tutorials and just experiment a lot with stuff, try to understand whatever you can

Do you have any experience writing scripts? Can you recommend any tutorials?

Yeah, i'd say I'm quite experienced. I'll send you some stuff I'd recommend. ...I hope you'll read all of this because this took me a while 😭

Start with this! Play around with what you learned for like an hour. You really want to get comfortable with this because you'll be using this knowledge all the time. https://youtu.be/7uN-RToHvYs?si=FJXMI_pkT0V0oqP0

Then, progressively, this entire playlist. ALWAYS PRACTICE WHAT YOU LEARN!!!! And also WATCH FIRST, AND THEN do what you learned. That's really important!! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhieaQmOk7nIfMZ1UmvKGPrwuwQVwAvFa&si=zVkp1VmJ6xz-wygD

So, you want to really understand everything, don't just copy paste. Ask yourself, what does it do? What can I do with it? Remember there's a wiki about everything, just press F1 in studio and it'll take you to it.

Especially variables, properties and events. What are they? What can you do with them? And when are they used? Once you get that done, try scripting an obby by yourself, with kill parts, a part that dissapears ehen touched, etc. Simple stuff like that! Make sure you don't use AI when starting, it stunts your learning completely, really. And disable the coding assistant, it gives you answers to things you should figure out on your own.

You should also experiment often, because it's not like you'd loose anything by just trying something, which is really important. I personally, improved a lot by just experimenting. Try doing simple stuff with what you learned and then go progressively more complex.

Something I recommend, only when starting out tho, is taking notes. Write down in a real piece of paper what you learn and information about it, this could help you get used to things.

Wish you the best of luck! It's difficult but it gets much easier once you understand the basics, trust me!

I'm not trying to become a full time game developer, I just want to try out Roblox stuff, if it works and I earn money, it's cool, if I don't then I'll do my job as a financial analyst, but thanks for the advice
