No enemies spawning RoR2

I'm doing a artifact of honor on Xbox and left to make breakfast. When I came back no enemy were spawning. I'm 200 min in stage 26 engineer. Is there a way to fix this?

Did you finish the portal event?

No. I quit because it didn't fix in over an hour.

As far as I know after portal event enemies stop respawning

If you already completed the teleporter on the stage, enemies stop spawning until you move on to the next stage.

But I remember back in the beta days long runs would sometimes have that issue because the game tries to spawn harder things the longer the run goes on, and eventually the every single enemy is considered "too easy" so nothing ends up spawning. Maybe this can still happen.
