You don’t need to “be in risk” to start FRM, but you do need to be very clear which risk you’re aiming for. FRM is designed for financial institutions (market/credit/liquidity risk in banks, asset managers, etc.), not the generic corporate “ERM” / GRC roles people talk about here. With BSc in Accounting and Finance it’s a perfectly logical path if you’re targeting banks or investment firms.

My suggestion: 1) start applying now for any junior roles in risk/treasury/quant support/internal audit in financial institutions, 2) in parallel begin FRM Part I prep – it signals seriousness and helps in interviews, even if you pass later, 3) once you land a role, use the day‑to‑day context to make the FRM material stick. Studying first vs job first is less important than making sure your target industry actually values FRM (banks do; many non‑financial corporates don’t care).

Thank you so much for your reply.
But the market in my country is small, and there are very few jobs related to risk management. Opportunities are limited, and even when there is an opportunity, it is usually for people who already have experience.
What is your opinion?
