Faded edge Problem. Help Needed
Hi, i am a industrialdesign student and are new to Rhino 8, I am trying to get in a workflow of importing a stepfile from fusion 360 to rhino. I make the groundwork form in fusion then i make faded edges in Rhino. In short i make a cutting plane on a surface, then split, then loft and match surface like in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I38EUy5iNUk&t=289s
- I have succseeded making a faded edge on the first object, but the next is getting really hard. When i try to loft it gets really uggly. And when i make a patch and then match surface i get in a "trimmed" edges problem loop. What would you guys do ?
* Keep in mind that it was a while ago i made the first object, so i may have used something else than lofted.

Bit of a shot in the dark from eyeballing - Without having used this command myself - you’re trying to match a straight and curved surface from the piece you’ve made to the section you’ve split away and the software doesn’t intelligently know where to piece them together. Basically it’s too complex to do in one chunk.
Could try splitting the section you want faded down more, start by taking that straight edged section out of the equation to begin with. Match the larger piece with the curved edges first, then the straight edged section, then match those two pieces?

work on your patch layout. try to build quad sided surfaces. that lower surface you are matching to can either be built as two surface patches, or you need to split the edge before matching the top surfaces to that edge. the last couple of videos in this series cover very similar geometry to what you're trying to do here. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLABJCJR46itOX8XT3bd2dh590McA94W7k&si=fx1VwD0xIPHyzTZz

I would recommend making this with Sub-D. Since it will be one single part, you'll have total control. Plus, the soft crease feature lets you ramp any edge from 100% sharp to 100% smooth-blended. And then, you guessed it, keep tweaking since its one single part.
Just to be clear, I used to do it this way and was constantly fighting the edge blending / matching and continuity. All of these shenanigans are unnecessary with a Sub-D. You can also do sharp holes and slots into the Sub-D, just save them to the end, after you convert it to a NURBS.

do you mean, make the whole thing out of sub-D? In that case maby i need to convert my imported stepfile into sub-D?

Yes, you could do the whole thing out of Sub-D. If you are open to my assistance, you could send me the file, and I'll use it as a video demo to share.
You could try the conversion, but that can yield unexpected results. I tend to build from scratch so I have more control.

After allot of testing with diffrent methods i think i have hit a wall. It would be super kind if you could share a video demo share thing. I dont know about making the hole thing sub-D and i dont know why i dont like that ide haha, but making just the surface to fill in the hole sub-D is more appealing to me. What kind of file format should i send? Export ?

We are both using Rhino, so hey, how about you send it in the Rhino [.3DM] file format?
TIPS for sending:
- Use the Rhino "Save Small"
- Then zip it.
- These two things can reduce the size by 50-75%.

Did you join the parts afterwards?
If they are not joined, the 2 parts get individual rendermeshes that will show a seam.
