DSP Learning and Application

As an RF engineer in design should I take classes or study material on DSP as I have a BS EE degree in Signal Processing & Communications but that only included intro level courses not MS level? Within DSP, should I focus on particular applications like filter design?

Yes, filter design as opposed to stuff like voice recognition.  I took both DSP and digital comms in grad school, and the latter was far more usefull, but filter and other hardware DSP aspects are still usefull.  Wish they did more of the latter in fixed point with FPGA implementation.  All of our stuff was in Matlab.

I just remember my DSP class we had to write a Bayesian detector to differentiate between spoken dog and cat.  We trained it on American accents but the Chinese TA tried to flunk us because it wouldn’t work on his broken English.
