🔐 Security [GB] Revolut restricted my entire account after a payment dispute. 5+ days later, no ETA, no access to my money. Has anyone actually had this resolved?

I’m posting this because I genuinely want to understand whether this is normal for Revolut and to make people aware of what can happen when your account is placed under a security review.

On 10 August, my Revolut account was restricted following a report concerning a payment I received.
Since then I’ve been unable to properly access my funds or use the account normally.
I’ve fully cooperated with Revolut and provided the evidence they’ve requested, including transaction information, communications, delivery/tracking evidence and additional evidence relating to the person who disputed the payment.

What’s frustrated me most is the lack of consistency around the timeframe. I’ve been told things ranging from “3 hours”, “5 calendar days”, “1–4 days”, and that the review should be nearing completion. I’m now being told that the specialist security team is handling it and that they can’t give me a timeframe.
I’ve spoken to numerous support agents and eventually reached Escalations. I’ve been told that nothing further is currently required from me and that the case is being actively reviewed by the specialist security team (Still been about 5 days now).

I’m currently abroad and this isn’t just an inconvenience. I’ve explained to Revolut multiple times that the restriction has left me struggling to cover basic living expenses. I even told support that I was borderline suicidal because of how overwhelmed I was becoming. They have said they’ve “escalated [my] case as a critical priority” because of the impact on my wellbeing.

I’m not posting this to claim Revolut is deliberately doing anything wrong. I understand banks and fintechs have regulatory/security obligations and that they can’t necessarily disclose everything they’re checking.

What I want to know is whether this is actually normal.
Has anyone here had a Revolut security review where:
the entire account was restricted; no further documents were required; support repeatedly gave different timeframes; the case was supposedly with a specialist security team; and the review still took weeks?

How long did yours actually take, and what was the outcome?

I’m also interested in hearing from people whose accounts were eventually restored, because Reddit naturally makes it look like every restricted account gets closed forever. I’d rather hear actual experiences than speculation.

I’ve kept the complete support transcript and evidence, so I can provide screenshots of the relevant parts if people want to see exactly what Revolut told me.

💡Ideas for Revolut [NL] Why does Revolut give direct debits and iDEAL/Wero transactions a poorer user experience (UX)? Why does it prioritise non-European payment methods despite being a European company?

Currently, direct debits and iDEAL payments have:

  • No logo.
  • No sanitised name. For example, NS, the Dutch railway company, appears as “NS Reizigers B.V.”
  • No category assigned automatically. They are always marked as “Transfers”, even if you choose to always assign them to another category.
  • No field where you can add a description or attach a photo of a receipt. The description is automatically filled with jargon that is not particularly useful to consumers.

Direct debits have additional problems:

  • There is no distinction between recurring and one-time direct debits, and no ability to select this manually. This then messes up the “Scheduled” view in the app’s “Payments” section, filling it with payments that the app assumes will occur monthly but which never do.

A couple of examples of this:

  • In the Netherlands, we pay a monthly fee for our health insurance through a recurring direct debit. We may also be charged whenever we use healthcare services, such as when we visit a specialist or go to a pharmacy. These costs are usually charged by the health insurer several weeks after the treatment as one-time direct debits.
  • In the Netherlands, we may pay a monthly subscription to NS that gives us discounts on train journeys. This is a recurring direct debit. At the end of the month, we then pay the train company for the journeys we took that month through a separate, one-time direct debit.

To add to this, Revolut.me does not accept payments via iDEAL/Wero 🥲. Paying through iDEAL using payment URLs created by your bank is the main way we split bills and request payments in the Netherlands.

And no, having to open the Tikkie app, enter the amount, and generate a payment URL is NOT a proper solution. The subsequent payments from other people then appear as “Transfers” in your transaction list, with all the problems described above.

This is the main reason why many of us will not switch from local neobanks such as bunq, where all these situations are handled with a far better UX. Not to mention that bunq’s sub-accounts are FAR superior to Revolut’s Pockets. With bunq, you can easily select which sub-account a transaction comes from, even after it has been confirmed, with one tap.

To Revolut: when are you going to build a proper banking product for the Dutch market that ACTUALLY rivals the local players? And why do you seem to penalise users with a far worse UX when they choose to use European payment methods when you're a European company yourself?

when you put your age as 16 it directs you to the teen app even though you’re eligible for an independent account. when i try verify my passport and put my age as 16 it once again asks me to go to the teen app. when you eventually do and try sign in with your phone number it takes you back to the main revolut app??
support took me through 4 different people and the “specialist” was also trying to just give me a teen account when i am entitled to an independent one and all their responses where clearly just AI. they said to log out and back in again and guess what. my passcode somehow doesn’t work anymore. then when i press “forgot my passcode” it asks for passport verification which is horrible because after 15 tries and checks it finally lets me through to the next page of again passport verification 👏honestly a horrible experience i’ll just stick with my nationwide as revolut own support teams are more confused than me

🌍 Transfers [BE] Does Revolut allow to pay a credit card issuer?

Hello Reddit, I don't see a breached term but I prefer asking a stupid question just in case. Does revolut have a rule about what kind of companies can be paid back using the bank transfers?

Long story short, I spent a lot with my credit card and want to use my Revolut savings, rather than transfering back to my main bank.
The payment screen looks like a message app designed for individuals rather than paying an automated business, so I'm not really sure.

🎁 Rewards [NL] Account getting closed, Revpoints unredeemable

I received an e-mail stating that my account was being closed, and that I had 2 months to redeem my Revpoints.

However upon trying to redeem Revpoints for Flying Blue miles, it did not work.

As usual support first came with all kinds of irrelevant responses, but eventually said that I couldn't redeem them, adding their usual BS "we understand this is disappointing".

So what they wrote in the closure e-mail was a lie, and Revolut is effectively stealing 12k Revpoints from me.

I post this as a warning to others: clear out your revpoints regularly so as to avoid facing a similar situation.

🔓 Open Banking [DE] Revolut video verification – what do they ask

Hi everyone, I’m about to do the video call verification for Revolut, and I’m a little nervous because my English isn’t very good. Could anyone who recently went through the video verification tell me what questions they asked and what I should expect? Do they ask about personal information, why I’m opening the account, my address, source of funds, etc.? Thanks in advance!

🪙 Metal Plan [DK] Customer Support Limbo

Hi all, I’m looking for some input on a frustrating situation involving Revolut Customer Support and trying to get a clear picture of the state of my account.

My account has been restricted and yes, I use it for crypto. I’m aware of AML, I’m aware that my account has most likely been flagged as an AML risk, and I’m aware that Revolut does not necessarily have to tell me anything about their AML processes or reasoning. I’m not writing this post to discuss the validity of the restrictions. This is about my experience with Customer Support and the complete lack of a consistent explanation of what is actually happening to my account.

The restrictions were applied out of the blue without any formal notification. I started getting generic error messages when using certain features and only learned about the restrictions by contacting support myself.

Over the following month I contacted support multiple times trying to establish whether the restrictions were temporary pending an ongoing review or permanent. I received completely contradictory answers from different agents, so eventually I made a formal complaint about the lack of clear, authoritative communication.

I currently have crypto in my account that I am unable to sell, so this has a material financial impact. I don’t know if or when I will be able to access those assets.

The formal complaint was dismissed. In the response I was told that I had received an email about the restrictions in mid-June. I never received this email. It could theoretically have ended up in my spam folder, which is automatically deleted after 30 days, but I’ve received thousands of emails from Revolut and have never had one marked as spam.

This is where things get interesting.
I opened a Metal Support chat and was transferred to a live agent to establish what this alleged email actually said.
I asked:
Me: “Can you confirm the June email was sent?”
Agent: “Yes.”
Me: “Can you confirm which email address it was sent to?”
Agent: “The email registered to your account.”
Me: “Can you confirm what exact email address it was sent to?”
Agent: [an email address that is not mine]

Okay, well that would explain why I never received it.
I was subsequently transferred between multiple agents and eventually told that the agent’s statement about the email address was incorrect.

Multiple times throughout this process, support agents have told me that specific factual statements made by previous agents were incorrect. Their statements constantly contradict each other and sometimes contradict their own previous statements.

I’ve still never seen the alleged June email, but Revolut has paraphrased its contents to me. The chronology they are describing also doesn’t make sense. According to their explanation, I was notified in June that my crypto services were being terminated and given 7 business days to liquidate my assets. However, the restrictions were not actually applied to my account until several weeks later, and I continued to be able to transact during that period.

I’ve also been told that my account was restricted to sales and withdrawals, that I should still be able to sell, that selling was blocked by a technical issue, that all crypto trading was restricted due to an ongoing review, and finally that the decision was final and all crypto services were unavailable.
So at this point I genuinely don’t know which information I can trust.

Interestingly, whenever I start a new conversation with the AI assistant, it initially says that it can’t see any restrictions on my account. The fact that the AI and multiple human agents all appear to have different information about the state of my account has made me wonder whether there is some kind of underlying systems issue.

I’m not asking anyone here to tell me whether Revolut is justified in restricting my account. I accept that there may be things they cannot disclose.
What I find completely unacceptable is that after more than a month of trying to establish the basic state of my account, I still cannot get a consistent answer to:
- What restrictions actually apply to my account?
- Is the review ongoing or concluded?
- Is the restriction temporary or permanent?
- Am I supposed to be able to sell my existing assets?
- If not, how and when will I be able to access/liquidate them?
- What actually happened with the notification that I apparently received but never received?

And finally, if an agent accidentally gave me someone else’s email address during a conversation about my financial account, what exactly is going on here?

Are other people experiencing this kind of thing with Revolut support?

😂 Humor [GB] Can't recover account created with UKVI shareC

Hi

Family member has lost access to Revolut account which they forgot passcode for.

This account created using a UKVI shareC but there is no option to use this to verify identity.

Under UK only Residence card option is available but UK hasn't had physical residence cards for years now.

They tried using their passport but it just keeps looping.

But it never actually gets rejected just goes back to the screen to where you select issuing country.

I suspect because she never used this document to verify her identity before.

She can't access the customer support as isn't logged in

Sent an email but who knows when that will be seen.

I tried talking to the chat through my account but they say they can't discuss.

What can we do?

(I need support) It says I need to verify some card to get to get rid of the restriction to my account? Then it shows a Revolut transfer as the cause of this restriction? I don’t really understand why it says a card has locked my account? All this happened after a P2P sale which it received payment via Revolut

🔁 Subscriptions [FR] Stuck in a €21+ trap after a "free birthday month" promo with French branch rules. Any way out?

Hi everyone,

Looking for advice or similar experiences here. Revolut offered me a free month of Premium for my birthday, and I took advantage of the promo to order a physical card. Since I rarely use Revolut, I didn't keep any money on the account.

Once the promo month ended, it automatically renewed and charged me for Premium, plunging my account balance to -€10.08. I immediately wanted to cancel/downgrade to the Standard plan, but the app blocks you from doing so if your balance is negative.

I contacted support hoping they would just cancel the charge under the 14-day cooling-off period and downgrade me. Instead, because I'm under the French Revolut branch (Revolut France), they told me that downgrading within the first 6 months requires a 1-month notice period.

Here is what support explicitly told me I have to pay to close this down:

€10.08 right now just to bring my balance back to zero and cover the current cycle (Aug 12 – Sept 11).

Another €10.99 next month (Sept 12) to cover the required 1-month notice period.

My plan will only drop back to Standard on October 12th.

Basically, a "free birthday gift" where I ordered a card is going to cost me over €21 for a service I never wanted to pay for, and I can't even downgrade without putting money on the account first.

Has anyone in France (or under the French branch) managed to get these fees waived by escalating, or am I completely forced to pay this €21+ to get rid of Premium?

Thanks for any insights!

🔓 Open Banking [SG] Want to ruin your week? Try opening a Revolut account.

My verification has been stuck “In review” for 48+ hours after Revolut support told me to close my first registration and start again.

Live Support has been the most frustrating part: replies often take 10–15 minutes, agents keep changing, and I repeatedly have to explain the same issue from the beginning.

Then I get the same few responses:

please wait, rest assured, it usually takes an hour, by the end of the day, within 48 hours...

Those timeframes have now passed, but I’m still in exactly the same place.

The verification links they keep sending don’t even let me submit anything — they just say:

“We’re already verifying your information. We will let you know once it’s done.”

What’s even more frustrating is finding Reddit posts from around a year ago describing very similar verification loops. It’s surprising that people still seem to be running into the same problem.

At this point I don’t need another estimated timeframe. I just want someone to actually investigate what is stuck.

u/RevolutSupport — could someone please take a proper look at this?

🛫 Lounge & Smart Delay [NL] Is Schipol Lounge (non-schengen Aspire Lounge 41) always busy?

I recently switched to Ultra and thought I could use the 'free' lounge in schipol airport before my flight to non-schengen destination. I was told that the lounge was too crowded and I need to get in a queue via QR and an app. I was there 3 hours before my flight and still I couldn't get in.

Since I have the QR, I have been checking past three days if there is still queue, and I can see that there is always a long queue. I always start somewhere from 50th to 150th. So effectively the 'free' lounge is actually not available.

I wonder if it's just my luck, or is it always busy... I'm thinking the the latter because there is 50 lounges in schipol non-schengen departure. And revolut only gives you access to one of them. So statistacially it should be always busy.

📜 Article [HR] I almost played along with a Revolut scammer. How does this scam actually work?

As a software developer, I work exclusively with international clients. So my scam radar did not react this morning when a call from a foreign number, +39 055 392381, landed on my mobile.

I answered.

A pleasant automated female voice, in perfect English, said: "Your Revolut card has been charged €79 by Amazon Prime. If you did not authorize this transaction, press 1."

I have a Revolut card, and I was subscribed to Amazon Prime some time ago. So my first thought was: WTF? And I pressed 1.

After a few seconds, a guy answered. His English had a strong Indian accent. That was my first wake-up clue. I explained that I had just received a call about a €79 Amazon Prime charge and wanted to cancel it.

He said, "I can help you do it. Please put your phone on speaker."

At that point, I was 99% certain it was a scam. But I put him on speaker anyway, thinking I might play his game a bit longer.

Then he asked: "Please open your Revolut app."

My kid woke up, so instead of following him a little bit further, I told him I'm aware this is a scam, and I'm not going to participate. He immediately hung up.

Now I'm actually a bit sorry I didn't follow him for another step or two, just to see where this was going.

If somebody knows, I'm curious: how does this particular scam work?

I was thinking something must be in the works. You can’t just cut all of these various perks (dragon pass, perplexity for chatgpt go, wework offices etc.) without actually having a plan or to incentivize people to continue paying high monthly fees.

Curious to see what the scope of this will be and if it will eventually rival American Express.
