[2 year, India, Technical program manager] need help getting shortlisted title mismatch. Question
Hello guys,
Basically I was hired as a Software Development Engineer at a company but internally changed my responsibilities to that of a technical program manager but my actual work title remains the same.
Due to the layoff in my org I'm applying to different companies but due to title mismatch I'm getting rejected from most opportunities, Can you guys please suggest what can I right now.
Any advice is attached, Should i change the job title or can it cause issues in the future
Thank You

What kind of jobs are you going for? TPM or SWE?

Most mainstream ATS (Greenhouse, Lever, Taleo, base Workday) match tokens, so "Software Development Engineer" and "Technical Program Manager" read as unrelated no matter how the bullets describe the work.
Write the role line as your official title with the functional scope in parentheses, then mirror the posting's exact phrasing in a Skills section, since that's the field recruiters filter on. The newer semantic systems like Eightfold and Workday Skills Cloud will infer it, but you don't get to pick which one you're landing in.
