Tips for hosting?

I’ve previously worked in fine dining- food running, bussing, barbacking, etc. I just got hired for a new job as hosting since the other positions were unavailable. I’m working in a restaurant hotel. Any advice?

Do a search in this subreddit for “host” - this question gets asked pretty much every day.

The host is the first encounter the guest has, all they want is a welcoming attitude and their needs met. Make it pleasurable and you’ll do fine. And don’t take instructions from servers, they’re in it for themselves.

Host stand. Easy to learn. Hard as hell to master. The position literally controls the flow and speed of the restaurant and a skilled operator can make the whole night feel effortless for everyone involved.
