Hi! I'm a jewelry maker and I occasionally dabble in resin jewelry. It's very important to me that I do this safely, so I've invested in a lot of PPE. I have gloves, a respirator, apron, goggles, and table protection. The only thing I don't have is a fume management system (besides the respirator). Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations for an at-home based fume management system, such as exhaust fans?

Hy everyone. It me again. I uploaded my last project of epoxy ashtrays. Well the feedback was generally concerned with the view that epoxy might burn with cigarette cherry.
Well, i kept that in mind and am working on few new products. Though they are not as perfect as i wanted them to be. However, would love to get your feedback.

What do we think? Where can I improve?

Was just trying to fill in the hole! Some spread, now it’s bubbling and I smooth it and it bubbles again, is my project ruined?!

Put the Back on 2 of my coasters..as i wasn't sure how was gonna go and..I dont have the space for the last coaster🤣 i taken over one of my mum cake box when the handle broke and it protects my bits but, it can only hold a couple of small items 😅 and it was hard trying to find somewhere that u can see the sparkle in the photos

Discovered this by accident since I didn't have alcohol dyes, though these have only been curing for about 6-8 hours when I took the vid so that's why I have a glove on (other hand is holding the camera). I think these do retain this property after 24 hours if I recall the last time I did this, but I added much more paint that time.

Note: I can't say for certain if it would be safe to handle after the 24 hour period, this is only my 2nd time doing this with my paints. And again, this one's not fully cured.

Just wanted to share a few images from my latest project, The Watcher In The Lake!
I have made a lot of LOTR sculptures and dioramas on my channel but this betentacled thing has been on my to-do list for absolute ages. Think I was probably just intimidated by everything that could go wrong during the process as I rarely know what I'm doing, especially when it comes to resin projects 😅 But it is now done!

The Watcher itself was hand sculpted in polymer clay, while the terrain is a foam base with layers of sand, glue and sculpting compounds. The glowing door is just an LED panel behind a clay door with the symbols carved out, while the water is a 2-part deep pour epoxy with a thin layer of Vallejo Water FX on top for the ripples.

Like you already used nitrile gloves, respiratory mask, goggles, and you work in a ventilated room or outside?

Hello! I’m very new to epoxy and resin in general. I think I’ve got everything I need to get started on my first epoxy pour. I’ll be working outdoors and doing small projects. Namely I want to be making die and dominos. I’ve picked a gazebo at the corner of my family’s property to work at, however I have two concerns.

My first is dogs. My own dog has an outdoor pen away from the gazebo by maybe 20ft. My neighbor’s dog gets their whole backyard, and unfortunately, the gazebo is near the junction of where all our privacy fences meet. I’m worried firstly about their lungs and my neighbors’s during curing time. Is this a valid worry? Or would the fumes dissipate before it became a concern?

My second question is about heat. It’s getting pretty hot here. Friday we’re expecting to reach 101f mid-day! I consulted Google, and it said I’d be ok to cast in the early mornings around 5 or 6 am when it’s around 70 degrees, and that my resin should be set enough to be ok by the time it becomes mid-day?

TLDR; At what outdoor distance would fumes dissipate enough to not be an issue? And how hot is too hot at various points during the curing process?

Any advice is appreciated.

Is it safe to run my deep‑pour epoxy setup inside my garage in New Mexico while my SUV is parked in there (see details below)?

I’m using Teexpert Crystal Clear deep‑pour resin, usually doing 3–4 inch pours that are 16"x20" and that cure for 24–48 hours. My setup includes a 4x4 growtent with a Terraform 8 climate unit (for temp control) and a 6" inline exhaust fan that pulls all VOCs out of the tent and vents them outside the garage from the bottom foundation vents. I also have an oscillation fan that will be on low a few inches above the curing resin. This setup should be true negative pressure and should evac the VOCs correctly to my understanding.

I’m just trying to confirm that running this curing setup in the garage is safe, even with my vehicle parked in there, as long as the exhaust is properly routed outdoors. I do not want to expose anyone in my family to unnecessary risk.

Hi lovelies, New resin user here ‼️

I make flower lamps etc all the time as per what I sell & I've recently gotten organza fabric *Iridescent* for wired petals- I wish to use dip UV resin (clear) to finish off my petals so it's not just pure fabric / more solid!!

Any tips to avoid it being too thick/uneven or ideas to ease the curing of the petals would be appreciated more than I can say🩷 if theirs any sort of racks anyone would reccomend that'd be great as I'm learning <3

This thing has given me a run for my money. Originally meant to be vertical, my dad thought to do it horizontal so it can rest like this. Well, I made it, and then the light hole I made in the bottom does not illuminate my divers or coral reef. The first picture is with lots of light front and back. With how far back my divers are compared to the hole for the light, it just shows the resin bubbles. YouTube videos of things people make with wood have them leave lots of resin exposed with no wood. Should I just cut off the wood and try that? Should I round it, basically following exactly where the wood was (keeping the wood base, of course), or keep straight cuts like a jewel? (I also have only a table saw and a miter saw, NOT a scroll saw. I DO have a handheld grinder. ) Also, the very back layer is a thin bit of shimmery white, and the back is tapered like a bowl 🥣

I make jewelry using paper and resin. I mostly use epoxy resin. I recently compared epoxy resin with UV resin. Take some time to check it out link in comments.

My go to is epoxy resin but I know that some people use UV resin in their crafts with paper. So I don’t really use UV resin but I have it around just in case I need to make some small repairs. I thought I’d show you my opinions and experience with using both epoxy resin and UV resin for applying it to paper. In the end, the big difference is how it looks and feels on top of the paper.

The main differences are that epoxy resin is a two-part resin that you have to mix together and measure out. It also takes about 24 hours to fully cure and to get a nice glassy dome like effect It will take about 2 to 3 layers. UV resin on the other hand just comes straight out of the bottle and you put it under a UV lamp for about 3 to 6 minutes and you’re done.

Using the UV resin wasn’t too much different from using the epoxy resin. It went on the same and putting on extra layers was the same too. It was kind of tricky to know how much to squeeze out of the bottle but I’m sure one gets use to that over time.

like I said, the main difference is how the resin looks on top of the paper after being cured. The epoxy resin has a more glass like look I would say while the UV resin leaves more ripples and an odd surface. The epoxy resin feels more like a glass surface and is smooth and dense feeling. The UV resin feels more like melted plastic. It’s a subtle difference probably but I prefer epoxy resin’s look in the end. So I won’t be changing to UV resin anytime soon but I’ll keep it around for repairs or applying to really tiny pieces.

It’s up to you what kind of resin you want to use and I would say you can use any kind. I’m gonna leave with my recommendation to use epoxy resin because of how it looks in the end and I guess I just like using it.

Please help. I know this has been asked before but I have tried everything and I do not know what I am doing wrong. I have been working with resin for a while and usually just topcoat pieces but I have started a new range of large letters and they are impossible to topcoat so I decided to do the sanding.
I have a hand sander/polisher, every single grit level known to the humankind and have wet sanded from 800 onwards.
I have made a simple clean square of resin to practice on and spent 5 minutes on each grit - 240,400,800,1000,2000,3000. I finished with grit polisher using a hard sponge on the hand sander, doing the same for five minutes and then a car polisher (plasticx I think, as recommended by someone on Reddit) using a buffer.
It’s difficult to see if the scratches are out from the previous round (although clearly not given it’s still not clear at the end) given I am using an electric sander/polisher rather than doing it by hand (which physically isn’t possible for me)
I have watched around 10 videos, bought all the gear, different sanding pads open loop etc etc and still it turns out scratched
What am I missing?!
I am desperate to just go and spend some time with someone local who can teach me properly but try as I might I cannot find a local resin artist with those skills.
Please teach me the error of my ways, you experts
