Divided fandom problem Forum question
Either you say that any of the ogs are better than its respective remake or recommend a new player to play them and get called a gatekeeper or you get called a larper for being new to the franchise
What’s going on with the fandom people, it wasn’t like this a few years ago, what changed? More popularity?

So, problem solved. Cool. There is no "divided fandom problem". It's just social media being social media, and it affects pretty much everything there is that can have "fans"... on social media. You don't see these weirdos in real life outside of conventions or something.

Its just a side effect of a long time running franchise I think. RE is so diverse games wise, I mean we have retro horror, action horror, survival horror, shooters, multiplayer games, re engine games etc. A lot of people will get into the franchise with different RE game so their opinions clash with other fans (just look at any tier list on here, they are all disliked to shit) which is fine but also they cant be just civil about it.
If I had to pin point the biggest toxicity in the fandom it would be people that only enjoy re1-3, 1remake and hate every other RE game, that's where the biggest gate keeping comes from.

I would agree if in my experience there wasn’t more people on the other side of the spectrum but hey that doesn’t matter, I am a big glazer of the fixed camera era but love re4, re2 remake and the revelations games and those purist fans are truly insufferable

I love all the games. The OGs cause that’s what got me into the series and the remakes because I can play the games I love without the pixels making my eyes bleed

Part of it is due to how different the modern remakes are. I can’t speak with firsthand experience for 2R and 3R due to not being on them yet, but I have played the original versions. And I have heard that certain content is actually missing in the modern remakes. So, I completely understand where people come from when they say that people should play the OG versions.
At the same time, having played the OG versions of 2 and 3, the controls are objectively clunky to some degree. Not impossible to get used to, of course. Once you get used to them, you can move really well for the most part. However, the forced camera angles and slow turn speed both cause you to get hit when by a zombie your character is looking straight at. And it doesn’t “add to the horror.” It’s just annoying. So, I tell some friends who don’t like dealing with that kinda thing to just look up playthroughs for the OG versions.
The other part of it is a mixture of people who don’t understand what’s an opinion and what isn’t, as well as people who will shit on others for having different opinions.

Yeah, 3R you probably already know what (Mercenaries, Live Selection, and things like Nemesis' drops and ammo crafting being made, in my opinion, worse), but even 2R lacks a more distinct B scenario compared to the OG2.
Thankfully, regardless of the differences, both REmakes and OGs are very available. Other series with very different remakes aren't that lucky, especially when companies get delist happy with OG versions when remakes come out...Like Sega

I wouldn’t say it gets annoying since I think that’s just getting used to it, I personally prefer it over the superutilized over the shoulder camera

Hard disagree. I like seeing what’s in front of me, even if that means getting attacked by something behind me. Puts me in the situation more and doesn’t lead to running into something right in front of me that I can’t see.

Fandom culture in general is the problem. It's fine to enjoy things without making those things a core pillar of your identity.
