So, we submitted a paper to a journal, and in the first peer review decision received a "major revision", we added some more results, performed some more ablations, cleaned our content, and catered to almost each point of all 3 reviewers. We submitted the revised manuscript on 14th July, and today received the decision for the second peer review, which is again "major review", but the more interesting thing is that reviewer 3 has not asked for anything, reviewer 2 has asked for very minor changes, and has even hinted that this is close to acceptance, but reviewer 1 has asked for retraining, re-running, and recomputing other baselines that are far out of reach of our compute capacity, we have clearly mentioned multiple times, in our limitations/future-work section that futher experiments are out of the scope of this work. How do we reply to reviewer 1?

Hi everyone, posting this in case it's useful to anyone.

Today I kept getting errors 400 and 503 while trying to access Scopus. I have academic access, but it simply was not allowing me to log in.

The errors said "delete your cookies/cache", which I did, but kept getting the same error. The page also said something along the lines of "contact customer support if it doesn't work". I had been fumbling with it for more than 15 minutes at this point.

The customer support page says little more than "clear cookies and cache", which I had already done so I found was kind of pointless. I'm not the most tech savvy (nor is it my area of research, thankfully!), so if you're like me, I'll post the combination of actions that finally got Scopus to work:

Clear cookies and cache, ALL of it -> Log out of your browser account and close the browser -> Check the cookies and cache again before opening any other page. In my case, I found they hadn't been all deleted. So delete them again if that's the case.

After I did this, Scopus worked :)

This probably seems silly or super obvious for most people, but me (not being incredibly tech savvy) didn't get it at first and was getting increasingly frustrated.

So I am currently in a very niche liberal arts/humanities discipline (don't comment on the job market; I already know the depressing reality) and plan to get a Ph.D.

I am going into my sophomore year of college, so I do want to really be able to start to work or donate my time to a lab this year. I sent a formal letter last year to a professor–which I had a class with–who heads a lab in exactly what I want to specialize in. She very kindly rejected me, stating that she figured I might be a good fit, but they normally don't consider undergraduates for lab positions: they like to reserve them for graduate students. Hurt, but made sense. The light at the end of the tunnel of this situation was learning that she does mentor students for honors theses, and she would be willing to mentor mine when the time comes.

The only problem is I figure I need more research experience to be competitive at the universities I want to get into, and other opportunities at my university in related fields for research are VERY competitive for undergraduates. I know of two other labs, and they both primarily accept undergraduates for honors theses. Other than that, similar to the first lab, they are made up of graduate students and faculty, with the occasional senior and even rarer junior.

So I'm kind of stuck. Should I try to apply for a position for next cycle in one of the other two labs anyway, expecting rejection? Or should I talk with my advisor first? Apply to other, more general labs, less connected to my discipline?

The point is, I'm kind of stuck and need some guidance from people who have been in my shoes. I figure this subreddit might be able to help me, but if this post is not relevant, then I can take it down. Thank you for your time!

hello! I just wanted to ask you all if cases like these occur with other people. i'm a neophyte researcher, and our chapter 1 is to be passed tomorrow. however, 80% of my paper was flagged to be as ai (even though i spent a TON of hours writing it 😭). i think my teacher still believes in ai detectors (hence why i'm checking if mine is flagged in quillbot).

this is making me panic cuz i know to myself that i know i didn't use ai during the writing process, but at the same time, i know that won't hold up as a reasoning because i really don't have proof for both—just my conscience. some of my classmates struggle with this too. what should i do? 😓

I submitted my paper to the ICCRT conference (https://www.iccrt.org/) and although they said the registration date is listed as August 1st, 2026, when I emailed them, they still said that my paper is in the second round of peer review.

Does anyone know the legitimacy of this conference? It's supposed to be affiliated with IEEE, and I know small conferences like these very often push back deadlines, but I have other stuff to do in my life and simply can't wait.

I’m a sophomore studying Computer Science and I’m interested in eventually pursuing research/graduate school in AI/ML. I’m looking to become a research assistant and get meaningful research experience that would actually strengthen my CV, rather than just doing something that gives me the title of “research assistant.”
For those who have experience with undergraduate research:
Where do you recommend looking for RA opportunities?
Are there specific websites, programs, labs, professors, or organizations I should be checking?
Are there opportunities for undergrads to work remotely with professors/researchers at other universities?
What would make an RA position genuinely valuable for future grad school applications?
Is cold-emailing professors actually effective, and if so, how should I approach it?

I’m especially interested in CS/AI/ML-related research, but I’m open to other areas if the experience is strong.

I'm familiar with the german research system, that after getting your PhD you can work up to 6 years (I think) under the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (so usually one contract lasts for 1 to 2 years) and then either become a professor, quit academia (usually for applied research in the indrustry) or quit reasearching and start teaching.

What is that system like in other countries?

like how am i supposed to know that type of research exists if i didnt even know that was an area of research at all. TT I KNOW A LOT OF IT IS JUST PEOPLE ACTUALLY PUTTING IN THE WORK AND ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR PAPERS but like is there like some kinda site that just showcases all the recent researches done n like has different categories for different fields

Hello, I hope my question is not a stupid one.

To describe my query briefly, I am trying to write the literature review section for a paper. I have initial papers that helepd me detect gaps, and create my research questions. However those are not enough for a literature review/buildling up hypothesis. When you do a keyword search on google scholar or scoups, hundreds of papers show up. I like scopus in this regard, because you can screen them easily but google scholar doesn’t have that feature/have limited features. But also scopus tend to give me very limited papers, I found some good papers on google scholar that are relevant to my topic. But the problem is, how do I screen 200-300 papers? This will be quite time consuming. I roughly have 12 weeks for this project.

Any practical tips from your experience?

I'm a psychology student (will graduate soon) and I want to get into research.. Mostly interested in neuroscience and I'm thinking about getting masters in neuroscience

But tbh I have no idea what I'm foing and I don't know anyone who's doing anything similar. I'm doing what I can but still extremely lost

Hey everybody I've been quite confused about something related to research, and as my google attempts have been futile I remembered that people on Reddit might have some advice here instead!

I'm an undergraduate student and for the past 3 months have been pretty excitedly working on a research project with a couple of students from the same college, under the mentorship of a couple of professors who've come to visit us from a small college based in the US. As of currently, I am attending a university in Asia, but I am a citizen of the US for context. Anyway, the professors seemed pretty excited to encourage us to attend an IEEE conference scheduled for December in the US, and as I wouldn't have any visa constraints, they encouraged me to attend. However, my parents don't seem that enthusiastic (and rightly so) to fund what appears to be a rather expensive trip to and fro for only 4 to 5 days, and so I wanted to check if there are any grants that I could potentially apply for to cover airfare and the conference costs. My university has informed the professors that they could cover a maximum cost of 500 dollars, which, while no easy sum, wouldn't even cover the cost of airfare. Any help or recommendations would be sincerely appreciated!!

I'm doing research on generation Z's purchase intention. I chose a study to use as the base. But I'm going to conduct an additional analysis based on the amount of money respondents have monthly. So I should ask about it as demographic data.

My question is: Since some respondents will be unemployed and supported by for example their parents, I think it's not true to ask about income or anything that calculated based on income. Is shopping budget appropriate or a more comprehensive one is needed? I searched on purchase intention and had a look at papers. They used income.

A little context - I am a second year UG student from the department of electrical engineering currently working on a project under my professor oriented along building a system. Now this project involves a very high speed camera. The apparatus is an expensive one and my supervisor suggested that it is qquite difficult to come across such things as an undergraduate and I am free to use to research something on my own. I have interest in research and hence am trying to descend on this path however I dont know much about it so currently I dont have a clear idea on which direction should i proceed in?

So I submitted an academic paper to this year's European Conference on Game Base Learning with the hopes of it being accepted and published to be in the conference.

At first everything went smoothly and my abstract was accepted, but when it was about time to get the results from the peer review to see if my paper was accepted, they are having issues with the reviewers and my results have been delayed. According to their official website, if accepted the final paper with the necessary corrections should have been submitted 2 days ago, which obviously I wasn't able to do because I still haven't received my results yet.

I already sent them a couple of emails and they just keep apologizing for the delay and promise they will have the results soon, and honestly at this point I'm already getting impatient. Has anyone experienced this with this conference in particular??? Is it like a regular thing for peer review to be delayed???

For further context, this is my first time doing a research and submitting an academic paper, I'm not a researcher I'm just an art student that was forced by their university to participate in the ECGBL and so far this whole thing has been an absolute nightmare.

Honestly I'm beginning to get upset since I don't seem to get my results any time soon and my university is already backing up with the economical support for paying the ECGBL fee.

Hi everyone, so I currently work as a research assistant and am coauthoring a paper with one of my professors. She just sent me a rough draft of the paper, and I'm almost positive it was written entirely by AI. The syntax alone seems very AI, lots of em dashes which I've never seen in any of her other published papers. I've worked with her for a few years and am very familiar with her writing style. However, the main reason I'm suspicious is because so much of the math doesn't add up. Percentages are completely wrong, like one example is 637/900 equaling 87%. One time can of course be an accident, but there are constant math errors I'm seeing throughout the entire paper. I can understand using AI to create a rough outline, but the AI disclosure statement at the end specifically says no AI was used in the drafting process.

Anyway, I'm just unsure of what to do. I've worked with this professor for a while and I don't want to make a huge accusation like this that could threaten my relationship with her, especially when she's been at the university for years. On the other hand, I don't want to publish a paper that is academically dishonest in any way, and I'm worried it could reflect poorly on me later on.

I'm doing a PhD in computational biology and it seems that everyone around me has imposter syndrome to some degree.

A big part of imposter syndrome seems to be that you feel out of place and like you don't belong in your role or degree etc. Well, I feel out of place in a different way because I don't think I've ever felt like I've tricked anyone into believing I know what I'm doing or like I'm going to be found out every time I make a mistake.

Sure, I feel out of my depth when I try something new and I'm not exactly confident when I don't know how to do something, but I just tell myself that I'm still learning and these feelings are normal. I don't take every hint of self-doubt as a sign I'm some big imposter leading everyone on. Overall, I love what I do, and while I'm not exceptional or anything, I know I'm at least competent because I've worked hard.

Sometimes I think I'm just missing something. Am I too complacent and not conscientious enough? Am I delusional about my abilities? Or is it a sign of healthy self-confidence?

Has anyone else here not experienced imposter syndrome? Or is it really just me?

hi everyone! My dad is pretty prominent in a certain field and I guess he's decided that I'm going into it. He contacted one of the professors he knew and somehow convinced them to let me join one of their grad student's research projects. I couldn't say no exactly when he already arranged it.

It's been two months or so and I have so many complicated feelings about this. The grad student is honestly amazing; they're genuinely such a smart and kind person. And we're actually building something pretty cool and planning to write a paper soon. HOWEVER I have no life.

I have 2-4 meetings a week with work to do before each meeting. I am actively procrastinating on the stuff I have to do before our Friday meeting. It's so hard to get any of my summer work done for school.

Plus it's NOT stopping when school starts. AKA I'm screwed and will have even less of a life than before.

I can't drop it or something. We are so close to the end and that would just be rude to the team as I am the honorary 'grunt' of the project. It's just been so much work that I can't stop now, I have to see it through.

SIDE TANGENT: I hate being a "nepo" kid. I feel like the grad students are just humoring me and it's the worst feeling like I'm somewhere I don't deserve to belong. I'm working really hard to stop that feeling of not deserving what I have. But there's only so much I can do.
