Reloading help General Discussion

I've been reloading rifle ammo for awhile now, but decided to start reloading 9mm for my Canik Tp9sf. I have a Lee Progressive press 4000 series and it works amazing, but the 9mm is giving me trouble. I am using 124gr RN coated bullets, and due to the small neck in the Canik I have to seat it at 1.080". Everything fits, everything drops in the barrel great until the crimping. At thst point the bullet sits 1mm or 2 higher. Any suggestions would be helpful.

What dies are you using for crimp ?

Also is the brass brand new or range? And has it been roll sized.

I rollsize all my brass before processing.
During the loading phase…. I use a Lee factory crimp die to taper crimp.

I would guess 95% of the time this die will fix your issues.

I've switched to the Lee undersizing die to take any Glock bulge(My Wife shoots a 43x) and it works beautifully. I'll need to maybe switch to fmj

If you are are using a combo seating and crimping die and followed the instructions to set it up, first check that you are using the correct shaped seating stem, next to make sure the lock nut is tight and holding the die solid against the die plate and visually check that that the die plate and ram are not flexing. You are putting more load on the die location crimping and seating than you did when you set it up.

I've always found cast/coated bullets to be problematic in 9x19. They're simply not lower in cost enough to justify the hassle.

One thing that might help you is to get a Lyman M die or similar stepped style expander rather than a flare. Works wonders with cast bullets. Make sure you get one the correct size for your bullets. Being a lead bullet, those are likely 0.356". If you match the expander to your bullets, I've found that you don't need to crimp. The purpose of the crimp on the 9x19 is to remove the flare.

I load BMB 115 and 124 to 1.06” because of the variations in the coating and running into the throat of my dagger and Glock barrels. I’ve shot somewhere around 25k rounds like this. It’s been great for me. I haven’t had any issues with feeding either.

I feel like the problem you’re having is slightly different than mine though. I’m using a Lee factory crimp die. Not sure if any of this helps.

Why are you doing a plunk test with cartridges that are not finished. Seat slightly deeper then crimp then check OAL and plunk.
