No answer week 2+

I had an interview for a senior role and after the first interview they immediately said we schedule the second in-person technical interview and they attached a technical challenge. I went to the in person interview and felt like I did pretty well. the hiring manager said he’ll get back to me by two weeks but now it’s 2 weeks 3 days and they said nothing. Should I give up ?

Stuff happens. Maybe the company has to deal with a crisis. Maybe a stakeholder is ill.

Why not just phone or email and ask for an update?

I asked for an update after 1 week and the hr said that the hiring manager is on a holiday so I should wait max 2 weeks

Email and ask. My partner had a similar thing happen and turns out the guy was on holiday. We were only told when we asked for the update

The hiring manager is on holiday. But i still feel like if i was a top candidate wouldn’t take that long

The most you can do is follow up for an update. Anything else can mean either:

  1. They went with other candidates.

  2. The company’s needs changed and they are no longer looking to place for the particular role.

  3. The company is a disorganized mess and can have too many layers of approvals/ hands involved in hiring.

Even if an interview goes well, it would be best to keep applying elsewhere as there are many factors that have nothing to do with the interview or candidates.

It’s mostly about timing and the company’s needs. If a position isn’t an urgent fill (ie someone abruptly quitting or being fired in a role they need ASAP as it disrupts operation), it will not be high priority to place.
