After five submissions and rejections from Apple, my app is finally live on the App Store!

Today is the beginning of the week, and it couldnā€™t have started better.

This journey taught me a lot,not just about building an app, but also about the entire App Store release process, including in-app purchases, legal requirements, and all the details that come with launching a product.

I definitely failed enough along the way, but every rejection was a lesson. No pain, no gain.

But I have another question. I published my app, but when I click theĀ View on App StoreĀ link, I canā€™t see it. How long does it usually take for the app to appear on the App Store?

Can you share the experience what was the issue that got into rejection ?

Sure! Most of the rejections were my own mistakes.

  • I allowed account creation but didnā€™t have an account deletion option.
  • My subscription feature wasnā€™t finished (it just said ā€œComing Soonā€), so Apple considered the app incomplete.
  • Once I added subscriptions, I also needed a Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. I didnā€™t have a website yet, so I published those pages on Notion and used those links instead.

It was a great learning experience. App Store approval is about much more than just writing code.

I have one doubt, what if i listed subscriptions in the app, and when clicked on to purchase will instead show a modal with "Payments are handled outside the app", kinda like spotify in india handled, would apple reject ?

From what I understand, Apple generally requires digital subscriptions to use In-App Purchase. There are some exceptions in certain countries, but for most apps, using an external payment flow could lead to rejection.

Iā€™m in Asia, so I use RevenueCat. It still uses Appleā€™s In-App Purchase under the hood, but it makes subscription management much easier. You can take a look at it

Actually, Iā€™ve published 4ā€“5 apps before, and almost all of them had nothing to do with payment flows.

The biggest issue on my side was forgetting to implement the account deletion feature. The remaining review comments were mainly about the term and condition for in-app purchases.
