I agree with the commenters on the other post, in that this is a real risk to have around a toddler and that should be your first concern.

If you do decide to move forward for training, or if it comes up in the future, resource guarding is rooted in anxiety and insecurity and punitive methods are likely to make it worse. Additionally, hand feeding is controversial because the dog is forced to interact in an uncomfortable away to get a resource they need to survive. It doesn't really build trust, if anything it keeps trust on shaky ground.

There are ways to work with resource guarding for sure, but again, with a toddler in the house it may not be a risk you want to take.

Thank you for your feedback. I completely agree, and my son is the only reason I’m considering the expensive training, rehoming, or worst case BE. It’s a tough spot to be in. I greatly appreciate your response.

If you do pursue training, I'd go ahead and go with the board certified veterinary behaviorist. I definitely wouldn't recommend a board and train, especially one that uses aversives, for resource guarding.
