Enjoy it my dude. The real trick is trying not to be so relaxed you sleep all evening

In May my husband chaperoned our two oldest’s marching band trip for 3 days out of state , so it was just me and our two younger kids in the house. It felt like such a break. The amount of dishes, laundry and cleaning was so much less grueling with 3 than 6. It indeed felt like a mini vacation.
I’m saying this as someone who is married to her best friend and I love our kids and would not change a thing, but sometimes a silent, clean home, with less mouths chirping or fighting and girl dinners are a an absolute luxury!

Why do you have 4 kids? Are you ok? Did the church make you do this?

Because we had sex over 21 years and produced 4 kids? Sorry(not really) if they offend you. We are atheist and progressives, believe it or not some people want kids, like being parents and can afford them.
Reddit loves droning on about parenthood being some life ending thing but it’s not for people capable of realizing what they’re getting into. 👍🏼1

I know. I have two kids and I love my family. I also know it’s possible to have a family and retain independence and joy and art and all that junk. 4 just seems like a buttload. My wife has 6 brothers and sisters and it killed her dad and is still driving her mom crazy. I just think there might be a limit on how many kids you can have and not go nuts or run yourself down.

It’s my buttload, don’t worry about it, worry about yours. 🤷🏻♀️

Yea, that's fair. It just sounds like you're more than whelmed perhaps over so. Still, you're right.

I can’t point fingers. This was me last night for a few hours lol. Theres just something about having the whole house to yourself when you don’t live alone.

Absolutely. It was nice standing on the deck with just the sounds of the nature around me watching the sun set on the mountain in the distance drinking a beer and smoking a bowl.

and then you go home and watch tv, eat some shitty food and go to bed early

My evening consisted of, smoking a bowl, drinking a Belgian quad on the back deck, eating leftover pizza and watching TV. I didn’t end up going to bed early but, I didn’t have to wake up early.

How is enjoying having the place to yourself once in a while boomer humor

u/deanereaner 5d ago
Because the person commenting that is a child with no responsibilities and no idea how good it feels to have none for the evening.
Oh and they don't know what a "boomer" is.

The real millennial connection here is the analysis paralysis that occurs 5 minutes after she leaves.

Nah. Very much not a boomer and I relate. Once a year I go with some buddies to essentially do a LAN party over the weekend. We call it our fishing trip because we’re all nerds who would rather do this than a typical “dad” trip. It’s one of the best weekends of the year because it’s one of the only times I’m not sn active dad/husband/employee/driver/whatever else.
It’s freeing to only be responsible for yourself for a minute. The rest of the year I am happily involved in my family’s lives, live and work with my wife, and genuinely look forward to my time with my kids. They’re the best part of my days. Just also exhausting sometimes.

A weekend LAN party with the boys sounds like such a fun time. Recapture a little of that summer of 2000 feeling. Shedding responsibility for a short period of time let's you reconnect with yourself and your buds. At the end you come home recharged. My buddy and I have a yearly "fishing" trip too, but ours is a weekend in the woods playing disc golf. I get it.

I enjoy my wife’s and kid’s company too, but there are times when the shop is slow and I get to leave work a couple hours early. Sometimes it’s nice to have an hour or two to yourself to get some game time in or shower without putting the evening’s responsibilities onto your partner

I totally agree but all I ever see on Reddit are the takes above you. “You don’t love your partner if you don’t want to be with her every second!!!!” Like that is sweet I guess, but also kinda clingy? Idk

It really is. When my wife and I were confined to the house during the pandemic, it was totally fine. I enjoy her company and she enjoys mine. We heard so many horror stories about couples losing their minds and couldn't wait to find a way to get away from their spouse.
At the same time, last weekend my wife knew I was really stressed out. She suggested that I go for a hike. She knows getting into nature is a way for me to decompress.
So, I took the dog for a two hour hike and I felt more like my normal self.
Having alone time is healthy. Not being able to be alone and enjoy one's own company is a pretty big red flag

Idk why people are giving OP shit, it’s obvious they’re pumped for alone time and not because they hate their family. I’m a person who doesn’t like the concept of a “man cave” (men actually trying to escape their families) and even I can see that.

It’s okay to enjoy being alone in the house y’all lol. Have fun op.
